Thanks Maui No Ka Oi. I've been hearing from friends getting ready to travel for the winter season, but I may have to wait until spring. It will be interesting when I finally cam get back out there.
Lament just to say that I came across your channel I just love way you build up your van I cannot wait for the finish result you are gifted by God for your craft and its amazing how your design inside your van anyway just to say keep well and stay safe🙏😊
Well I am grateful you found my channel. I'm working on my second build now. I'm rushing to beat the cold weather, so much of the build has been at night when it's not raining or too cold. Moreover, it's the only free time I can find on my off days. I hope you sick around because when I get to the good stuff like building my bed, installing my shower stall, sink, heater, etc, I plan to show it all. That's the stuff I believe most people will want to see. ☺👍🏾
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I like watching build videos for the same reason but I edited about ten minutes out of mine thinking very few would want to see the nitty gritty details. 😁 I appreciate you watching.
Awesome, It's definitely coming along! Hard to get projects done when you work full time - I know that all too well. Glad to hear the composting toilet is working well for you, I just recently rebuilt mine and am very excited to replace the porta potti with it lol
I enjoyed your video Jenna. You did a fantastic job with your composting toilet. Oh yeah, work has been busy this year and heading into the Christmas season just means my 60 hour weeks will be closer to 70 hours.😣 Thanks for watching.☺
That’s a lot of progress! With those composting toilets, they need to be able to breathe to dry the stool solids out. Usually there’s fans that direct the air out (hole drilled through floor)...”Sylvans Secret” Stepvan channel has a basic cedar composting toilet and I think he just throws cedar in his first, then on top of the solid, then he disposes of the waste bag daily or as needed... Thanks for sharing🙏🏼✌🏼
I think you're right. I found a great video where a gentleman shows how he made a fan for his toilet. I'm going to experiment with it when I get time. 👍🏾
Hi. Thanks for checking on me. I'm good. Life stuff has pulled me away from RUclips and my build temporarily. I'm hoping to get back in the groove soon. Take care and safe travels. ☺
If it weren't for the fact that you can have both shower and sink on the same wall, I would have suggested swapping places with the shower and toilet. You'd just have to turn the loo the other way, as you mentioned. Though I would have it facing the opposite direction, with the back of the loo against the bulk-head wall. Can you put both the kitchen and shower on the left side with the toilet on the right? That would solve your design dilemma. You could make a separator wall further down--giving yourself leg and stand-up room--and build out a small closet on that side. Where's your bed going to be?
That's an excellent idea freedom dove. It's funny that you mentioned moving the shower to the other side. As I was watching my video for the 4th or 5th time, the idea came to me to move the shower to the other side too, just behind the driver seat. I was thinking of drainage because I may have a line on a pre-made shower stall however, it would better organize the space regardless of the type of shower I go with. Turning the loo (I like that) to face the rear of the van is a good idea too. The possibilities are endless. The bed is going to be in the very back of the living space, against the rear wall I will be building. I may put a half door in the rear wall for an emergency exit.
Came here to see how your toilet was working and if there was smell... So your getting a little smell I have a idea that jusy may help with the smell. You could put a small vent with a small fan to help get that smell out. All you need is a small vent hose or pvc pipe or any type of hose you can use to vent the toilet. Run it from the toilet to the out side of your van or where u want to the vent to be. Also get a tiny fan to get air circulating in the box of the toilet also for the fan to suck out the smell. This will also dry the solids out which helps with the smell dry number 2 dont smell.... I dont know what type of electrical system you have. But those tiny computer fans take very little power to run. So if you dont have a house battery or some solar. I have a idea that will work to run the fans. Since it take so little power to run the tiny computer fans you can buy a couple of those cheap solar lights from the dollars store. Take the lights apart you only need the little solar panels. Directly hook up the fan to the little solar panels. Im not sure if you will need I or 2 of those tiny solar panels thats something you may need to play around with to see how many works best. It will depends on how big the light is or whatever you use that has a small solar panel. It doesnt have to be a little cheap light you could use one of the outside motion detector bright lights/ security lights that work on a tiny solar panel. They cost a little more but they have a much better little solar system and I wouldn't think you would need more then one of them. I have one of these type of lights on each corner of my house they cost me around 10 to 15 dollars each not much. But work much better then the 1 to 3 dollars solar lights. Anyways Im sure you can figure the solar out. After that run enough wire to put the panels in a place to get the most sunlight. And just let the fan run as much as you can. I know it will run all day Not sure how much it will run at night it depends on what tiny solar supply you get. I would say having the fan running all day will do the job you need it to do. The fan dont need to run 24/7 to work... I hope this helps little info helps you out. I also hope you understood what I was trying to say Im not the best at explaining things. I know there are videos on RUclips that shows you how to DIY these little fans and vent to get rid of smells from compost toilets. There may even be a video on using those little solar light panels for those type of fans. Sorry for the long comment and by bad habit of rambling on and on. I just was try to explain what may help you out. Best wishes 😊👍👍
Hi Un Known. I think the fan idea in the toilet box is the way to go. As soon as I can get back to working on the step van, that's near the top of the list of things to do. I have an idea that is a little different from everything I've seen on RUclips, but I will save that for the video. Here is a link to a friend's channel where he does a wonderful job and goes into detail about installing a vent fan in his toilet. ruclips.net/video/_YLcrn1kgeg/видео.html I like the idea of repurposing the tiny solar panels from solar lights. That is a clever idea.👍🏾☺ Thank you for watching and responding to the video. I really appreciate it.
I appreciate that. Here is the link. ruclips.net/video/VVcAMbZgO_M/видео.html I've gathered the parts I want to build another. It will be closer to the look of one of the commercially available toilets. I'll offer measurements and show the actual build to assist anyone considering doing the same since I didn't include any of that with the first toilet.
Lamont, your rig is coming along nicely. Have you tried some compost material that decreases odor? Is there such a thing? Maybe even baking soda. I like the wall that separates living space from upfront. Keep posting videos and Congrats because you are on your way to 1K subs. Woop. Woop. Happy Fall and nice pumpkin 🌞.
Thanks Franki. You are on the right track. There are so many options for composting media, different blends, trying different amounts, etc. I will definitely experiment when time permits. Thanks for watching.
Hi there HL Dye. My plan is to get the step van completely livable and use it the majority of the time as if it were a tiny house. I may take it camping occasionally, when time is not limited and parking is plentiful. The smaller box truck would be my primary travel/camping vehicle when parking may be limited to smaller vehicles, or I need to cover a lot of miles quickly.
That's why I don't like those toilets ..because when you do your shit and piss.. it begins to smell ..I recommend you buy the one from Walmart fold-up toilet with the bags ..so wen you shit rolled up bag and you throw.. it away is that simple ..this way you have no lingering pieces of crap in your vehicle. I know you wants be like your house so when you do Your crapper in the toilet it stays there for days and days and days that's the wrong way to do it. you do your crapper or shit in the bag and then throw it out at the same time eliminate the smell right away and no leftover number too or shit. . Lingering in your vehicle that's what I do my van do Mike rapper throw it at the same time that's it..
You are doing a great job sir. Keep up the good work......stay blessed
Thank you very much. I see you have a step van in your banner photo. That's awesome. 👍🏾
Congrats!!! Remember we are not doing the build, we are just enjoying your progress. Great Job!

Thanks so much for the update! Would you mind doing a video on how you made the crank mechanism for the toilet?
I don't mind at all. It's a great Idea in fact. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey try venting with a computer fan...It may help with the smell
I agree Patrice.👍🏾 I may have found a great spot to put the vent but I have to push the build along a bit to see if it will work.🤔
If you get a small fan that directs the air from the toilet outside there will no smell.
I have read that too and will eventually add a fan if absolutely necessary. 👍🏾 Thank you for watching.
I watched your toilet build the other day but can not find it now...

@@xlamontx Cat litter works very well if you're not actually "composting", but rather just tossing it all in a trash bag to go to the landfill.
