I never put flexes pointing downward. I use them horizontally and always have a mount to the chassis immediately after the flex so the weight of the tail section isn't on the flex at all, and the forward of the flex is supported by the header or the turbo flange.

Intercooler pipe length has little to no effect on spool up. Test it out I've seen a few videos on it. It's all on the exhaust length to the turbo. Heat to the turbo is what makes you spool fast. A turbo 5 feet from the engine will spool way slower than one 1 foot away.
