As a parent I understand you want your children to succeed in life so you set high expectations for them growing up. You did your job, good for you. Your children are now adults let them make their own decisions and set their own expectations. Getting married and having kids are YOUR expectations. Why? Cause everyone else is doing it. Its the norm. Save face? Married life is much happier? Not always the case. If you don't expect anything you won't be disappointed.
There’s a difference between discipline and control. Every parent has the right to discipline their kids and teach/guide them from right and wrong. But it can easily cross to control, which will traumatize your kids. Life is about exploring, learning, growing, making mistakes, picking oneself up and trying again. Whatever guys did, you did it out of love and fear. But you did it to the extreme where you prevented them from learning the life skills they needed in order to survive life without you. You prevented them from nurturing their curiosity and will to be ambitious and set life goals in order to thrive in life. Now even as adults, they just have no motivation to do anything because all their lives they were taught that they will get nothing out of trying and that the answer will always be no so why even try?
This is the new generation. When they're ready and financially stable, they can do whatever they want.
My family was very much like this growing up. Luckily, all of us children were too stubborn and defiant. We’ve chosen our own happinesses, despite the struggles. We did it for ourselves.
Glad that you were smart enough to fight for your future. I was too chicken to stand up to my mother and now I’m old and by myself. My mother played psychological games up until the day she died; it was not worth loving her at all.
I let my kids do whatever they like growing up but they still can't find their soul mate. My husband and I are in our late 50s and none of our 6 kids still has no one. They are all independent and working but no family of their own

Don’t be so hard on yourself. If it’s one or two spouseless kids I can understand but if it’s all your kids-- that’s their decision. They listened to you guys back then but now they don’t wanna listen to you guys? That’s their choice to stay single then. Don’t stress yourselves out!

Haha, I feel like I need to send this to my mother. I wasn't allowed to date until I was 18
One thing I learned from parenting is let them date whoever they want, just give them a curfew and boundary. I told myself that my parents are so strict with me and my sisters... they stop us from dating whoever we wanted to date. I hated that feeling. I do not want to end up in the hospital because of worrying or stressing too much over my teenagers.
Think about you and your spouse. Did your parents stopped you from dating your husband or marrying him? Just let them. Dating doesn't mean that they will end up with those.

I’m surprised they still want to live with you. My parents were like you too, but my siblings and I move out by 30 because we were sick of my parents controlling us. We are very protective of our children. They just don’t understand. Yes, their youth is gone, but a marriage can start at anytime. They are only limiting themselves. It’s harder to find a partner at a later age, but they need to be more outgoing and be involved in the community to find their partner. Be open minded.

That’s why I’ll never understand some Asian parents, you don’t want them to date and just focus on their education BUT when the kids reach to an age were they are suppose to be married and have children, they choose not too. It’s not the kids fault when they don’t want to date or married anymore. If I was in kids shoes then I wouldn’t too.
