Dude plays hard every game, doesn’t get into trouble, cares about his community, and is very professional. I hope dude gets what he deserves going forward. I’m a Lakers fan, but I find it hard to root against the Celtic players and coach. Jrue, Derrick, and Jayson are good character guys as well. I don’t see how sports media roots against guys like Jaylen Brown, Tiger Woods, and Russell Wilson.

Everyone knows how ego driven SAS is. It's a Flex for him to state that he receives texts from sources, but don't get it twisted. It's a bigger Flex when he named Michael Jeffrey Jordan as a source. Which he has done on different occasions. If I remember correctly, the topic was about who was more important or who deserves more credit for the Celtics success. Brown or Tatum. What SAS revealed from that source was irrelevant to the subject. Which again proved SAS just wanted to Flex his status of the access he has.

They need to stop caring so much about what people think about them. They say it all the time but then they turn around and get mad about something negative coming out about them. As far as Jaylen, i believe he's a pretty smart dude but i also can easily believe that he's not pleasant to be around for most people. Two things can be true. I think he gets to much credit for his intelligence and people instantly want to side with him because of that but his "State Your Source" campaign tells me that he's still not all that intelligent because a true intelligent person understands that they don't know everything or in jaylen's case, you're not about to change the media. It's best to just ignore it, make your millions and move along.

I was hoping Jaylen would hold his feet to the fire in the ethics and general morality of citing "unnamed sources" on LIVE TV that were actively meant to denigrate the subject of the topic at hand (Jaylen Brown). He didn't even afford the subject of the topic an opportunity to respond or rebut the quote. It was completely one-sided.
In essence, Stephen A. Smith *allowed* himself to be to be USED as a puppet in a larger beef. Live on national television.
Now, I might have some critiques of SAS here and there, but I generally think he's a good hearted, well intentioned man. I take him at his word that his overall message and feelings were "this guy is amazing, how could you leave him off Team USA??" But by inserting heavy handed, one-sided anonymous quotes, he compromised his own journalistic integrity

Really that what you took from the conversation? SA still defended JB character, that man gets messages from MJ himself to Magic thats the kind of people who he leaves his phone up for not the fatjoe69 trying to be cute, if he felt like to read out loud the things said was for a reason if he names his sources nobody would trust him again.

@@glcsander The point wasn't that he should OUT the source, the point was why is he using anonymous sources, unfiltered, on live TV? There is a way to use the information at hand in a moral, ethical way.
It doesn't matter if it came from a GM of a team, or the owner of a team, or the CEO of Nike, or some random dude on Twitter..... he put himself in a position to be used by someone else.
SAS is one of the most trusted names and journalists in Sports Media, if not THE most. When he speaks, people listen, and more importantly people believe. Like Jaylen said, the back half of that quote from the anonymous source was VERY personal, talking about him being arrogant.
Uncle Ben once explained to us all: "With great power, comes great responsibility." It's not too much to expect better from him

Steven A is like some politicians. He's acting like he was helping Jaylen by making a statement that attacked Jaylen's character. If he wanted to help Jaylen, he could have talked about all of the facts about his character which seems very good, instead of quoting some sources without knowing first hand if the information was true or for political purposes. Steven A seems to be very self servant without a care of how what he says or does affects people. It appears that the only people that he concerns himself with are the ones that are affiliated with who pays him.

Unnamed sources are standard and accepted in journalism. Without unnamed sources there would never be any government whistleblowers, corporate whistleblowers, etc. You are required to cite sources in academic papers that are also many times peer reviewed as well. You can't equate the two. Remember, these athletes got into college on athletic scholarships. They aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.

“Names & Numbers” !! Unnamed sources in today’s time is very cowardly, especially with the access to keyboards, mics & cameras to say as you please. But Marcellus you always preach “protect the guilty” & tho you are said SOURCE in the moment, you are telling an act without stating whom. Would you consider that being hypocritical or how would determine the two to be opposite of each other?

Marcellus, why is the reality of this conversation not brought up. This world has games, sports, religion, politics etc. "to maintain" (thats me being politically correct) the ebbs and flow of society. The mechanisms by which they operate are in no way unfair nor do they owe us a peak behind the curtain. Is it unfair for an animal to eat another, nope just life. If you are the greatest cards player in the world you don't owe the world an explanation of why you know what they don't, and why would it make sense to share the edge you have and then potentially lose it. The idea of fair and unfair is best summed up by. All is fair in love and war. We drink 10 dollar coffees while other parts of the world starve. Thats a silent war. Do you have a problem with starbucks keeping their edge or people drinking those drinks at the expense of others (ie cobalt mines in Africa)? Because I would guess on the scales of cowardess that secret is far more "unfair" than a conversation about the avoiding of an elephant in the room. We are talking about why he isn't making 300 extra million. And that extra 300 million comes from the Nikes and Starbucks. So two things can be true: he is less marketable literally shown by the way he answered the reality versus playing the game, and him being an exceptional person doesn't entitle him to THE MONEY they hand out in THE GAME. Because the game comes with conditions.

'Unnamed source' is a cop out.
If a person has a viewpoint they should be man or woman enough to publicly defend their opinion.
With regards to JB's interview, as much as I respect the man, there was a certain level of delusion.
He has a gripe with major corporations and shoe companies but forgets that the league and his 300 plus million are the product of these entities dipping their hands in the pot and creating the same product that he is benefitting from.
I'm sure he's intellectually savvy enough to understand that 'he that pays the piper dictates the tune'.
If it irks him that much and he is as principled as he claims, he should retire and find himself another vocation.

OK, 1, an unnamed source is different than an unnamed person in a court matter. Witnesses & victims get intimidated, they have been killed, families threatened. Organized crime will do all and more. When the case goes to trial those names are then mentioned because you get to face your accuser... this is COMPLETELY different than an unnamed source. 2, You had Mike Freeman at CBSSports trying to act like Woodward & Bernstein from Watergate when mentioning these supposed NFL higher ups. I think those unnamed sources were Freeman himself. What happened to Jalen Brown, and I am now a HUGE fan, was BS. SAS should tell them if he can't say their name then he's not going to talk about it. Man up & let it be known when you're out here talking shit about someone else. Don't hide behind a reporter, this person can clearly get on the air & say something & let it be known. I was hoping Brown was going to look in the camera & tell that "source" he/she is a coward for hiding behind SAS. They should text SAS right now & tell SAS to state their name. People act like sports is the same as being a whistle blower. I'm not articulating this the best but if I was on the phone I could for sure make my point clearer. I hate the "unnamed source" as it pertains to sports. Now when it came to real crimes like the Clippers owner, then I understand. That's a crime, someone could go to jail & that person has resources. Talking shit is no reason to be a coward, stand up, man up, and speak up.
