Yes, I am well aware that I introduced a very similar device what feels like yesterday. So one thing up front - this is a very similar miniature PC. Maybe a whole millimeter smaller, if you will. However, I want to point out right away that today's device has a surprise in store in one particular area.
Today I'll be reviewing the GMKtec NucBox G2. The Mini PC is equipped with the very popular Intel N100 Quad-Core processor, comes with the usual integrated graphics by Intel, a strange amount of 12GB LPDDR5 RAM, and a 512GB M.2 SSD.
As always, I will determine the performance of the device (including its gaming capabilities) and how the power consumption, temperatures and noise levels turn out in different areas of use. Where does the NucBox G2 particularly impress, and what are its weaknesses? And what about general security (malware)? Can you trust such a cheap device? We'll discuss all that in today's video.
Are you personally convinced by such miniature PC products or do you prefer something "bulkier"? 🤔
If you could, what would you improve on such a Mini PC? 🤔😅
For office work they are perfect.
For gaming we need DDR6 quad channel memory for APUs to become good enough to play the current AAA games at the time of their release. Strix Halo will have quad channel memory, but it will still be (LP)DDR5.
Otherwise mini-PCs are great. I'd say that in the future a powerful mini-PC the size of the Xbox Series S or slightly smaller would be fantastic.
I'm generally a full-size desktop PC kind of a guy (which I usually build myself), but I think mini PCs are really awesome and I'd like to get my hands on one someday. (I'd say the one you just reviewed is pretty outstanding considering the price point, as I'd only be using it for web browsing and 'light' office work.)
A micro-SD card reader would have been nice.
