If one peruses the various live Steely Dan performances on RUclips there is variation in tempo and even quality! As a die hard SD fan ...I absolutely love ❤️ this performance and appreciate that it takes a caliber of musicianship and professionalism that far exceeds mine to even begin to attempt the “Dan” and to present it as ear candy 🍭, This was PERFECTION! EAR 👂🏽 and EYE 👁 CANDY 🍭! ...and TRIBUTE to the STEELY DAN, who’s surviving members are not long for this earth, same for me I’m getting up there in years... Steely Dan wrote the musical score for the lives of my generation! Ana you did them justice thank you for this performance 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
If only more big jazz bands around the world were so ambitious... How naturally Becker and Fagan's work becomes an intrinsic part of the great American songwriting tradition.
I like when people appreciate Steely Dan songs. Band is nice and tight and the horn arrangements are great. I get that live versions of songs are often faster than studio, but i think the faster tempo takes the song out of the 'pocket' and serves to dismiss the dark, sad, drug story the lyrics tell.
I don't know what all the complaining is about. Great voice, great choice of song and a snappy version of it. Sheesh. Lighten up, people. She's good and she does it in another language. Bet you can't do this in HER language!
Some valid points below (a bit fast as it could use a slower pace & arrangement is not what really hits the point of the song)....then again, it is its' own arrangement and the fact that Anna Soklich even does this is fantastic in itself. The vocals are impressive here, yet that is nothing really new nowadays. As with most "hardcore" Steely Dan fans, this can be critiqued from multiple angles, but I appreciate the cover, minus a few flaws. Just enjoyed it for what it is ~ and this was fun.

Good arrangement and strong voice. However, I don't think taking the tempo up by 11-12 BPM works, especially in the bass part. I can't sit back and listen all the way through. Just my opinion.
