Now I take tectonic everywhere. Why nerf something that’s been in the game so long ? For future content you could make animate dead irrelevant there if that’s a concern. Or just make other styles equally stronger
Personally I think that the fact they’re currently testing Necromancy is the reason for the nerfs. It must’ve been too OP with whatever Buffs/Content Necromancy adds to the mix.

You do realize it's averages with a decent sample size right? You will have outliers where you deal more damage in one minute than in others. These numbers are absolutely representative. You're forgetting that I purposely limited myself by not using vuln and poison damage (which would have increased my damage output far more). I might of activated gchain once or twice in 5 minutes, it can't have added that much to the DPM. Dealing more or less damage doesn't necessarily make my tests invalid. There have been plenty of people getting similar results in the beta, including some of the "better" PvMers. Have a look on the rs twitter creator space.
idk if animate dead being worse on lower damaging hits is the right call... I thought that animate dead's opness came from reducting boss hits and being able to easily do bosses but i m just a range focused player so my opinion doesn't have a high weight

Except quadrupling the damage vs melee and ranged which were already dealing with quadruple the damage to begin with, is going to be unfairly punishing.
@@pondracek It's interesting that you say 'quadruple damage' instead of 'normal'. The damage was 1/4th what melee and range deal with (which is the 'normal' amount). Now it's been reverted back to the normal amount

you should have talked about how Smoke tendrils work now. is it still useful or dangerous to use after the nerf? also when is Jagex releasing new t95 magic wands? it's been 6 years since the praesul wand (and it's sadly locked under a group boss)
hey Protoxx, you're making it hard to not come back to rs3 XD kind of want to come back and reobtain my comp/trimmed comp capes and get the mqc but not wanting to grind it again lol definitely coming back when necromancy drops XD
I did some zammy on the beta, was just as easily able to mechanic skip, and do p7 using the same rotation I use in the live game. The animate dead nerf was very noticeable, though. Granted, some of that likely had to do with not being able to heal with blood barrage under fsoa spec (unless I start 4taa).
I am curious if you feel you are criting more or less. The reason I ask is Jagex could have pulled a sneaky one and increased the crit chance in the beta world to get the nerf across the line.
It's just a spec weapon now. Just go dual wield because you don't need 2h autos. If you want more damage then 4taa. Also ABS is very niche with this too. Overall the change to fsoa seems to revert magic back to 4taa and just sticking to the theme of gwd3 weapons as only useful spec weapons
Thats a good question, but I think the tempest spec in the EOF is what really helps pump damage with the ring and Kal. If you put it in the EoF its def an upgrade to dual wield but I think theres still a gap between dual and FSOA.
I think all the elitist saying they want animate dead "nerfed more" or "thank god" are kind of annoying. It leaves the option for the hardcore pvm's to not use it for impressive fast kills and the casual players to be able to kill bosses at their own rate and skill level so there is enjoyment all around. Nerfing it too much hurts the normal player imo.
Massive FSOA nerf. Still as expensive as before and more FOMO. Allowing Jagex to continually use the "buffed" new content to only nerf it later and introduce new "buffed" content, will only enable them to introduce pointless circular gameplay, where we grind out gear and upgrades just to lose them down the road and have to grind again. This is the model that game like Destiny 2 started to use to artificially cause the game to seem like it had more content when in reality there was nothing new.
Hey Protoxx! I haven't commented In a while. Just wanted to drop In and say hello! I hope you're doing well. I'm currently trying to buy what bis mage gear I can afford. I've got 1b atm to play with. Should I go for dps or tank gear for mage? Also what would you suggest 2h or dual? And what weapon should I get? Sadly can't afford fsoa or crypt atm. Great video! Thank you for all of the videos and content!
Hey Justin, Good to see you're still around Difficult to say without knowing what you have, could u drop into my discord and show me your current gear setup and stats? I still think tannk armour is worth it and so is Gconc
@@ProtoxxGaming Other than kerapacs wraps, blast fusion boots and buying Gconc I haven't bought anything else. I looked online but wasn't sure which style to go for tank or dps lol.
@@XxJustinxx88 I would say go ahead and buy tectonic and perk it out as your main armour and then buy a cheap tank armour set like seasingers or ganodermic on the side. It's so cheap you can have both! Dual wield is still far stronger than 2H for magic btw
New FSoA will be the reason T92 dual-wield camping and/or 4taa will become meta again, with FSoA being relegated to a spec switch. On the other hand, I don't see FSoA becoming EOF fodder any time soon since the weapon's spec benefits all magic weapons rather than just the weapon it was cast with, as well as being the statistical BiS weapon where you can't use Inquisitor staff with or without the enchantment. The main benefit of these changes is upkeep reduction, since current FSoA infamously chugs runes each time it procs its effect, which is tied to crit chance (at 31.8% crit chance w/ Lv20 Biting 4 (8.8%), Kal'gerion demon + spec (6%), Grimoire (12%) and Reaver's ring (5%)).
@StateOfGaming - SoG Range is not leagues ahead in damage and especially not in sustainability. That being said, I don't like the nerfs either but meh 🤷♂️ I honestly thought they'd be worse.
Seems like more or less the high super rolls are gone, but low rolls happen way less often too. The resting place is basically the same as live. You did 10% less with whats surely a less optimal beta rotation since nobody knows how to use it right. Same as you probably were with fsoa for the first few weeks you had it. Compensate for that and the damage is probably the same.
6:48 You probably did more damage because now gconc is even better, since it deals good damage and crit a lot, proccing the fsoa spec more often Before you would need to camp FSOA for the 2H auto damage, and swap to dual wield only for the gconc, because dw autos was bad damage I think this change is good for the casual average player, since now they can just camp a weapon But on the other side I don't like getting 4taa back, i'll probably do it because i like more damage, but its boring :p
I'm liking this approach a lot. Having weapons meant to be camped but still having the choice to do sweaty switching for optimal DPS. Now, if only Melee had better camping options, like Superior Zuk Sword having Halberd Range and the effects from the MWSOA.
@@Kranon I don't, because now it seems like my concerns about the FSOA being EOF fodder are getting justified. I already didn't like that it was the case for the Zuk sword.

Game changing nerfs have existed for decades Just off the top of my head abyssal whip, dragon scim, gmaul were all hugely nerfed a bit after their release but I can't remember how long it took them to nerf/change them but pretty sure they nerfed them way faster than this 2nd foa nerf
Ditto grico. After a year of gaslighting people and claiming grico was performing as intended, it was nerfed. After two years of FSOA being used by everyone everywhere and claiming that it's performing as intended, even outperforming much sweatier melee and ranged while in tank armor, it's obvious that they should have just removed recursive hits in the week 1 nerf (which would have prevented the need for a magma tempest nerf, and a double whammy in now making Arma bstaff worthless). I'm actually saltiest about onslaught. A balanced ability that was made useless to allow for one that was broken anyway.
So, to put an old term out there for the Animate Dead nerf: Mechanics matter more than gear. This is the case for every boss post gwd2, and animate dead is a great way to make it easier for noobies, but it shouldn't be a meta to get infinite free loot. I dont like that this nerf makes me go from being able to barely survive Kerapac with Gano, to dieing 100% of the time, but its my own fault for not focusing on getting slightly better defense levels and thinking 99 magic and G.conc are the end of what i needed for that. Fsoa on the otherhand i cant say anything about because poorscape. Lol.
You mean for 1 and 1k drop rate, I stop bossing and just went to slayer because I don’t get drops unless I buy it from the get 😂 unless you run dungeon then you’ll make profit but all walk in bosses are not good go tbh unless it’s rage bosses
I hate this nerf, anima dead and crypt was my saving grace to move out of gwd1 in to higher bossing. I am an okay at bossing still cant kill hm karapac or zuk but i fear that bossing will become impossible once again. Yes its “skill” based but i want to enjoy playing a game not spend 80+ hours on a boss learning enough to get 3kc an hour.
Nerfing something which is in the game for so long is meaningless. It changes everything. It changes people's hopes and dreams as well. And playercount will reduce because of this.
I'd prefer they leave animate dead alone, it's a life line for many players trying to learn. If they do nerf it though, I think it's rune cost should be reduced by the same percentage they are nerfing it. Players are already losing value if the changes go through, so would feel like paying more for less if the cost isn't reduced. (and yes I am aware you can use Meta, that's besides the point).
Water runes will naturally go down in price once the FSOA update goes live. This is because the new version doesn't treat the spec damage as autoattack damage, but rather, ability damage. So you will only use 1 set of runes per special attack now. I.e. Since water runes are farmed en masse right now for use with incite fear, there is going to be a huge oversupply of water runes and people just aren't going to need as many. So not only will you use less, they will also be cheaper.
@@steelblood4116 ah woops, thought you were talking about FSOA. I mean, there will still be a drop in rune prices overall since folks have been switching to range anticipating these nerfs.
I'm the type of player who needs animate dead to get through a kill at any higher end boss. So I'm not for any nerf of it as without it alot of bosses are just not doable at my skill set.
Yeah I hate when games change something after it’s been abused for years. Not saying they should never fix broken things but geez kind of feels like if you don’t abuse the current meta you’re missing out because it’ll be gone eventually
Magic helped with the learning process, but with enough skill you can manage just fine with Ranged. Although you need a Rune Throwing Axe EOF and good luck to do the First Challenge flawlessly if you're struggling.

Because ability damage does better consistent damage overall. Recursive nature of auto attack isnt consistent as it depends on critical RNG. On top of that, some auto attack might deal less damage than ability based damage. If your RNG sucks, most of your auto attack you fire off will deal less damage than ability damage and so it might be a the reason why you are getting better damage now.
Lol. Melee right now feels like that Drunk Guy outside of Kmart complaining about the government. No way Jagex will take a look at us, we're already forsaken so a nerf is out of the equation.

this nerf is pointless and doesn't add value to the high end pvm\bossing, they literary would want u to suffer pushing zamy high enr or arch glacor for instance , the staff doesnt need that nerf or AD.
These nerfs honestly seem very small compared to what ive been seeing people say about it. It seems like jagex may have done a decent job with it. The only thing I'm not a fan of is how long they waited to do the nerfs. Only time will tell if the nerfs have serious flaws but if i had to guess considering how scared they are of offending players theyll probably reduce the nerf before it goes live
The FSOA has been nerf to the point that you might as well range/melee. The reasoning for the nerf is very poor. They want to add other stuff to mage but afraid itll make it to strong. So they will nerf mage but range/melee will only get stronger. Then 1 day mage will be where its at now. While range/melee will far surpass it because it never got a damage nerf as heavy as mage did. Plus they are bringing back a major problem which is 4TAA which many people hate and avoided mage because of it.
Mage does everything melee is supposed to better, same with range. Mage is too strong now. Jagex does this every time they 're-balance' the combat triangle they fk it up way worse than it was. Personally, I think FSOA will be in a good spot after the nerf, making range and melee a somewhat decent choice. But, Animate Dead is the real problem here. They need to nerf it more than the current beta, and I hope they do. Animate Dead should not block more than 33% damage tops.
@@amaplelog3101 the big thing is tho they nerf mage. So they can basically buff it when they wanna bring a new item out its a terrible solution. Range and melee will be better whenever mage reaches the damage it is at now. The solution isnt logical. You shouldn’t keep an item like for a year then say shit we came up with more ideas let nerf this so we can make mage as strong as it with these new items.
Should have happened at most 1 1/2 years ago but still good that it happened. I use to be scared to do higher tier PvM till Cryptbloom. Used it till I learned to do without or boots and gloves when poison is viable. I still die sometimes with 3 piece. Gotta take the training wheels off sometime or do something a bit easier. @@ProtoxxGaming yeah lol that makes sense XD we still dont know the release date for the skill right? just sometime this year?
I did some zammy on the beta, was just as easily able to mechanic skip, and do p7 using the same rotation I use in the live game. The animate dead nerf was very noticeable, though. Granted, some of that likely had to do with not being able to heal with blood barrage under fsoa spec (unless I start 4taa).
I am curious if you feel you are criting more or less.
The reason I ask is Jagex could have pulled a sneaky one and increased the crit chance in the beta world to get the nerf across the line.
@@therasco400 Honestly, it did seem like I was hitting more crits. I was getting way more adrenaline than I normally do in the live game.
Hasn't been nerfed "that hard" but still hard enough to fuck up every thing
It's just a spec weapon now. Just go dual wield because you don't need 2h autos. If you want more damage then 4taa. Also ABS is very niche with this too. Overall the change to fsoa seems to revert magic back to 4taa and just sticking to the theme of gwd3 weapons as only useful spec weapons
Would this fsoa change warrant putting it into an eof and just camping dw with gconc?
Thats a good question, but I think the tempest spec in the EOF is what really helps pump damage with the ring and Kal. If you put it in the EoF its def an upgrade to dual wield but I think theres still a gap between dual and FSOA.
I think all the elitist saying they want animate dead "nerfed more" or "thank god" are kind of annoying. It leaves the option for the hardcore pvm's to not use it for impressive fast kills and the casual players to be able to kill bosses at their own rate and skill level so there is enjoyment all around. Nerfing it too much hurts the normal player imo.
I mostly hear about high enrage zam killers wanting AD for p7 typeless hits.
Has anyone else noticed that animate dead works after you remove the tank armor? And put in dps
That must be a bug 100%
Could be just a visual. Have you noticed an actual damage difference too or not?
Massive FSOA nerf. Still as expensive as before and more FOMO. Allowing Jagex to continually use the "buffed" new content to only nerf it later and introduce new "buffed" content, will only enable them to introduce pointless circular gameplay, where we grind out gear and upgrades just to lose them down the road and have to grind again. This is the model that game like Destiny 2 started to use to artificially cause the game to seem like it had more content when in reality there was nothing new.
For someone who would just use the staff to afk slayer creatures, how big of a nerf is it? (AKA not manually casting optimal abilities)
Wont really have a big impact anyways if you’re looking to afk for slayer since the main perk of using fsoa is the spec.
@@ThatGuy-nv7cx So what would the dps increase be for using nox staff vs new fsoa for afk slayer?
If you don't use the spec the difference in damage is minimal, around 3%. Definitely not worth paying 2 billion extra
Spec needs to be activated, so its not really for afk strategies. If you arent playing actively, the duals are much better DPS with Revo.
Hey Justin,
Good to see you're still around
Difficult to say without knowing what you have, could u drop into my discord and show me your current gear setup and stats?
I still think tannk armour is worth it and so is Gconc
@@ProtoxxGaming Other than kerapacs wraps, blast fusion boots and buying Gconc I haven't bought anything else. I looked online but wasn't sure which style to go for tank or dps lol.
@@XxJustinxx88 I would say go ahead and buy tectonic and perk it out as your main armour and then buy a cheap tank armour set like seasingers or ganodermic on the side. It's so cheap you can have both!
Dual wield is still far stronger than 2H for magic btw
@@ProtoxxGaming Thank you Protoxx! Right after I posted my second comment my power went out due to a storm. Thank you so much.
I bought full cryptbloom a while back but I have like two dozen quests I have to do to unlock animate dead.
Seems like more or less the high super rolls are gone, but low rolls happen way less often too. The resting place is basically the same as live. You did 10% less with whats surely a less optimal beta rotation since nobody knows how to use it right. Same as you probably were with fsoa for the first few weeks you had it. Compensate for that and the damage is probably the same.
ahh yes, i love that i finally bought a staff worth 3.6b a mere 2 days before the announced nerf.
They told us they were nerfing it literally months ago 😅
@@tbhgodrick6120 thats when i bought it, 2 days before that
6:48 You probably did more damage because now gconc is even better, since it deals good damage and crit a lot, proccing the fsoa spec more often
Before you would need to camp FSOA for the 2H auto damage, and swap to dual wield only for the gconc, because dw autos was bad damage
I think this change is good for the casual average player, since now they can just camp a weapon
But on the other side I don't like getting 4taa back, i'll probably do it because i like more damage, but its boring :p
@@carlost856 melee should be resurrected

Game changing nerfs have existed for decades
Just off the top of my head abyssal whip, dragon scim, gmaul were all hugely nerfed a bit after their release but I can't remember how long it took them to nerf/change them but pretty sure they nerfed them way faster than this 2nd foa nerf
I am fine with the nerfs. Quite frankly, it is a overall positive for game design. Just took way too damn long.
Can you make a guide about the best monsters to have in player owned slayer dungeon in 2023?
I have it on my ideas list although its been sat on there for quite some time :l
So, to put an old term out there for the Animate Dead nerf:
Mechanics matter more than gear.
@@Lil_Reto_Runner lol, literally made more from Ed4 dungeon than I have Zammy. I get that XD

all i heard from this video "aniamte dead..... die... dead ... loads of damage .... fail .. lose ..."hahah i like his honesty.... i have subbed
Pvm encyclopedia will do wonders for you
We dont all have criptbloom..........
Animeme dead should be more effective against soft typeless. It doesn't need full effectiveness, but yeah.
Yea keep that precious voice preserved Kreygasm. Sleep well
I love it! took away some of the laziness effect when using magic, kinda feels a little more balanced between all styles.
Nerfing something which is in the game for so long is meaningless. It changes everything. It changes people's hopes and dreams as well. And playercount will reduce because of this.
Where’s the summon undead? Bruh 💀
@@AstroPatel Uhhh.... Animate dead doesn't use water runes.
@@steelblood4116 ah woops, thought you were talking about FSOA. I mean, there will still be a drop in rune prices overall since folks have been switching to range anticipating these nerfs.
@@AstroPatel That's a bit besides the point though.
I think they nerfed the main game not the beta
I'm the type of player who needs animate dead to get through a kill at any higher end boss. So I'm not for any nerf of it as without it alot of bosses are just not doable at my skill set.
Yeah I hate when games change something after it’s been abused for years. Not saying they should never fix broken things but geez kind of feels like if you don’t abuse the current meta you’re missing out because it’ll be gone eventually
Jagex trying to fix issues that no one had, as per usual.
Nothing better than a mushroom fart they smell great
Good thing i already got my 3 zuk capes. Don’t have to deal with that.

Come on guys not every player have full cryptobloom and high tier weapon and armour the nerf is unacceptable after this time why now ?!

this nerf is pointless and doesn't add value to the high end pvm\bossing, they literary would want u to suffer pushing zamy high enr or arch glacor for instance , the staff doesnt need that nerf or AD.
jagex making nerfs because they hate their playerbase having fun? check. another massive common L from jagex.
I'll still wait a bit, they say that the dpm drops more on the higher level pvm people.
The thing is animate dead should be able to be used for all styles not just magic
Making tank armour an option
Honestly the biggest part of the FSOA nerf is the blood barrage healing. Other than that for the most part its fine.
Glad i got helwyr pet before this nerf. I like this afk for gp.
Are people really THAT bad at Helwyr?
I'm feeling like utter trash with my 20s Kills with Melee, when I've seen effortless sub 20's.
I de-augmented and sold the lot weeks ago fuck the game
so glad I quit for a different MMO a few months ago. My biggest fears about RS3 all ended up becoming true.
The game is so dead and bad, there used to be lots of people playing in different servers.
Now not so much
will be cancelling my membership if this comes into the game
You shouldn’t keep an item like for a year then say shit we came up with more ideas let nerf this so we can make mage as strong as it with these new items.
algorithmic 🎉
I sincerely wish Jagex would focus on experimenting on the best herbs for tea instead of doing nerf testing.
Use a few defensives. Also need more diversity with combat and not a majority just doing mage.
Not to bash on you my friend, but isn't Poison viable on like... 80% of all our current Bosses anyways?
