  • Greetings RUclips! Hit that subscribe button and join Ben and me as we pick up where we left off in the previous episode. There are many miles of simply stunning roads ahead of us, not to mention Bealach na Bà (the Applecross Pass). This is a particularly special moment as it is Ben's first mountain pass on a motorcycle. I can't remember the first mountain I piloted a bike over (by now, there have been so many!). Can you? Tell me about it in the comments, I would love to hear your stories...

As a Scot, I would say your original pronounciation of Ullapool was correct, I’ve never heard it pronounced allapool

I rarely get a pronunciation correct and thought I had that one in the bag as our Airbnb host informed me… Everyone else was saying Ull…. I kept reverting to Ull rathr than All as it seems to come naturally! 😂

@@TwoWheeledDreamer I’ve never heard it referred to as Allapool, it’s always been Ullapool and that was by a local on a recent visit

    Stunning scenery 👌
I've rode all sorts of bikes and l know the advantages of riding the 1250 GS and the KTM 1290 but my Triumph Bonneville is without doubt the most Iconic beautiful motorcycle I've ever rode.
That sound , the 50s look it's a piece of art.
While my friends and l were having lunch, we noticed a retired gentleman looking at our bikes BMW 1250, KTM 1290 and my Triumph Bonneville.
He stood there for 15minutes and noth my mates were laughing because he's was only interested in the Bonneville.
He waited for us coming out and asked who owned the Triumph bonneville.
Turned out he had one and wanted to know where l bought the nose fairing .
People seem to love Triumph Bonneville motorcycles, people who know nothing about motorcycles, old lady's young lady's stop and say OH that's a nice bike.
😆 They say Steve McQueen was the King of Cool 😎 but we all know that ,that title belongs to the Triumph bonneville, it's without doubt the King of COOL 😎

Hi Mike, yes, the Bonneville most definitely has the X factor - it is consistently the one that gets all the attention when Ben and I are out together. As you say, the king of cool! 😎

You know what is lovely about these videos? The way that you two are having a great father/son bonding time together. My son is 13 & when he gets his motorcycle license this will be our trip too. BTW, insurance companies spend their time reneging on contractual agreements via their small print. Off topic slightly: our pet dog was 'not insured,' even though we had paid the premium, for a heart condition because it was excluded for the first two weeks of her policy renewal. Even proving that she had never suffered from this before with previous vet's records, current vet's records & the previous insurance company wouldn't move them to pay for her treatment. So, in other words, you pay for 12 month's of insurance but get 11 months & two weeks. They are legalised scammers!

Absolutely amazing views of my favourite road anywhere in the UK the applecross pass...I rode it my first time on a Kawasaki z900 over 20 years ago and have done it since on a hayabusa, bandit 1200, Honda fireblade and this year on my Triumph thunderbird 1600.... hopefully do it again next year, Great to see you riding with your son memories that both of you will never forget 👍🏍️

That back road out of Lochinver is a wee Gem.
I rode it for the first time about 4 yrs ago in the opposite direction.
Can’t think of a better Pass in the UK for Ben to lose his Cherry on.
I hope the following morning was blue Skys and dry if it were I hope you retraced your run back up the
Bee Lach na Ba 😉 and got the views across to Skye.
I’ve only ever had that view once and that was in Nov 2005 despite having ridden that road multiple times 🤷‍♂️

Hi Norrie, it really was a gem, I thoroughly enjoyed the ride and was so glad we didn’t take the main route… When I did the pass for the first time last year I was blessed with blue skies and sunshine… I was so lucky! Such a beautiful area 😁

    Ey up
We did Applecross back in May 2023 the same way you’ve just completed it. We had cloud with visibility down to 30 yds for most of the top part. A stark contrast from the day before when we rode it in the opposite direction in glorious sunshine
    Keep em coming

Hi Steve. Fantastic vlog again. I agree with another comment. It's Ullapool not Allapool. I was brought up in Scotland and have never heard it said like that. I also like you did the main road to Ullapool. I wish I'd gone the back road but my 2nd days ride was 13hrs so I was pushing it to get back to my hotel in Loch lomand. 😊

I had my bike stollen last Sunday while away in Middlesborough touring and it was devastating. I'm lucky to have had it found a hour later and hopefully get it fixed but I'm worried it winr feel the same. Hope you both enjoy and hopefully won't be the last time we see you two ride together.

Thanks Lisa, Ben’s a good lad and I’m very proud of him. There will definitely be more videos of us riding together - we even plan to get to the Black Forest next year if we can get a scheduled to align! I am so sorry to hear about your bike, I know how painful it is to go through that. Hopefully any repairs won’t take too long and you can bond with it again. Good luck and ride safe .

@@lisaholloway888 That’s sickening, I’m sorry you had your bike stolen, but good to hear it’s been recovered. I know what you’re saying when you say you’re worried it won’t feel the same, it’s a similar feeling when you come off, you lose your confidence in it a bit.

Steve, I'd suggest you get the carbs cleaned out. I had a 2007 carburretor 865 Bonneville, and after draining the tank (mostly brown gunk!) flushing a few times, cleaning the fuel tap filters and removing the carbs to clean the float bowls and jets it ran perfectly whether hot or cold!

@@TwoWheeledDreamer, I rode around some of these roads in 2012 when I went to Ullapool for an ABR weekend. Lovely weather all the way there but on the Friday evening / night we were hit with a storm that came straight off of the sea. The following morning the camp site looked like a war zone, half the tents were in the bins and the organisers decided to cancel the weekend. I had taken the slow road and taken 3 days to get there from Weymouth stopping at Loch Lomand and Skye on the Wednesday and Thursday night and then rode home in one hit, 15 hours and 675 miles of wind and rain.

Hi, I think a lesson learned here. An annual motorcycle Insurance and check the level of cover. I would advise taking one out including UK touring. A friend of mine traveled from Yorkshire through Wales. He stopped in a B&B on the outskirts of Swansea. There was a Police station 150 yards at the end of the road, they didn't even bother coming to see him. When he came down in the morning his bike had gone. His insurance was of no help at all. He had his hard panniers and all there bike gear. I traveled down the next day to collect them. The insurance company told him that he should of had travel insurance.
