The P4 was actually released just 2 months after Windows Millennium and almost 1 year before Windows Xp. Nice video.

@@MidnightGeek99 you're welcome. I started building my own PCs in 1998, I had a frickin' Voodoo2 12mb pair in SLI on a P3 550 slot 1, man! With an AWE 64! We share a passion for the golden era of PC building and gaming.

@@MidnightGeek99 I have a Gigabyte G1.Sniper 3 Motherboard with a Core i7-3770K and a Nvidia Quadro M6000 graphics card. It dual boots Windows XP (with modded drivers) and Windows 7. Just like your video, I’ve found some games just seem to play better on XP or 7. Thanks again!

Interesting results! I wonder what is causing the slower loading times for games in windows 10? Maybe just some missing storage drivers or parts of the chipset not being fully supported by newer windows? Also surprising to see just how many games were still playable on win10 even if performance was lower, I wonder how a slightly older Pentium 4 system using DDR1 RAm and say a Prescott p4 would hold up with standard tasks such as browsing the web or watching RUclips videos!

I guess Windows 10's background processes, including Windows Defender, make everything slower.

Pretty nice video, could perhaps as a second part try a core 2 quad q6600 at 3 ghz next with these games too see if there is less slowdown in general from windows 10, or if vista & 7 now will be taking the lead compared too windows xp & 10.

Ah Cedarmill...the only P4 generation that isn't fun to keep cool being 65nm. Years ago I found the performance between; P4 HT 3.2GHz, P4 540J, P4 630 (RIP due to failed delid), P4 631 to be effectively the same. Only the 631 managed to exceed the performance of the others (and barely at that despite dual channel DDR2 1066).
Honestly, not worth getting any of the 3.8GHz models even now. The 670 (Prescott has 64bit) would have been a nightmare for you to cool. They apparently have a "maximum power dissipation" of 148W.

Hot take, the only Pentium 4's that are worth getting are the ones with Northwood and Gallatin cores :)

The closest "modern" alternative to simulate a P4 HT is a Celeron g470.
