I think that when possible it’s better to hold both, it offers more flexibility and can help mitigate risks concerning how future policies affect these products

I've ended up with the same amount invested in both SIPP & ISA... I intend living off ISA & then state Pension, leaving SIPP for standby or if not needed to pass to my daughters IHT free😉👍🏻

Begs the question, why? Did you get a large inheritance from your parents? Why not help your daughter with a good start and then enjoy the fruits of your labour?

Very informative. I will look if there are similar informative You Tube channels for the Netherlands, Luxembourg and France.

Both almost the same. Significant difference (for my situation).
You can dip into ISA for mortgage deposit (or mortgage payment).
    You really cant with SIPP.

    Hi.
If self employed & starting at 48 would you just invest in a SIPP and an ISA, or just the SIPP. Great content as usual, we’ll done.

It really depends on your personal circumstances, especially financial. The SIPP obviously has the benefit of the tax relief on your contributions. If you have no other pension savings, or only small pension pots to date, then maybe the SIPP would be the priority. Money will be locked away in the SIPP so you need to be sure you would not need it for a good few years.

Life time pension is for under 40s only, it’s a bit discriminating to us older folks who are really trying hard to prepare for retirement but lose out on that 25% government contribution that is available to only a minority of the population.

Hi, for the tax relief you get in the sipp( Vanguard), is that something that could be invested into funds or it's simply just a top up? thanks x

The 20% tax relief is added automatically when you make a deposit and then you can invest that money as you wish. So if you invest £100 you will get £20 added automatically, which you can then invest in your chosen fund(s). If you fall into the higher or additional rate tax band, then the additional tax relief needs to be applied for when you do a tax return.

@@BouncingBack Hi Helena - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. My understanding of pensions has just been tested. I understood that if I invested £100 today, the provider would top it up with 25% immediately so my statement will show £125, not £120. I am a standard rate tax payer so don't have to worry about claiming further. Kind Regards.

@@rodneysweetnam8653 It is due to the way it is calculated. For every 80p you pay, it is topped up to £10, so that's why it seems like a 25% top up, so yes, you are correct

I was told by Hargreaves lansdown that the 20% would be added 8-10 weeks after the deposit ?? It defo wasnt added when i paid in immediately

@@musheopeaus4125 I guess it varies platform to platform but I assume the 20% was still added automatically and you did not need to apply for it. Useful to know the delay with the HL platform - thanks for sharing.
