That's because the logical parts of our brain (mostly the left side) have very little or no activity during normal sleep while only the artistic/visual areas have a lot of activity. When people sometimes have "Lucid dreams" where they actually wake up in their dream and are fully aware they are dreaming because the right side of the brain starts to become active and we think logically while asleep, pretty crazy if you've ever had one.
