Grip 6 Wallet Review: Innovation but with a FEW problems

  • You may know Grip 6 as a company that makes really cool belts. But they're trying their hand in the minimalist EDC wallet game and to be honest, it's a strong effort. And is only a few problems away from having something great!
    From the Grip 6 Kickstarter:
    We engineered the GRIP6 Wallet with the determination to make it the quickest and most intuitive way to access and use your cards. Simply squeeze and credit cards emerge, perfectly arrayed for immediate access. Release your grip, and the cards drop down, locking in securely.
    The wallet is beyond tough. We built and tested the wallet to last over 100 years. The internal lift system is tested to well over 500,000 cycles (and going), the wallet is corrosion resistant and thoroughly impact-tested. We construct it right here in Utah out of American aluminum, stainless steel, and high-strength polymer. In other words, it will last you your lifetime, backed by our Industry leading “A3 Guarandamntee.”
    The wallet comes optional with a high-quality leather sleeve for those of us who are “minimalist-plus,” allowing you to store cash or just more cards. Without the leather jacket, the GRIP6 wallet feels strong, sleek, and space-age. With the leather, the wallet feels more traditional but maintains strength and quality. We’ve also included the optional FingerLoop™ at no extra cost, which increases control, pocket access, and is fun to use.

    Great vid, thanks for sharing your experiences of this product so far. Grip6 seems to be addressing the issues that they have gotten from user feedback which is good. Rather have them do this instead of pumping out bunk items to backers. Hopefully all these challenges are resolved prior to shipping the remaining wallets to backers.

    I definitely would not get the leather sleeve. The idea of a minimalist wallet is to carry less and make it thinner. If you’re going to carry all those cards you might as well just use a regular wallet!

  • @hollowpoint1057
    @hollowpoint1057 2 года назад +1

    Even if you get the pre-stretched leather it’s an issue. When the leather is stretched enough to prevent the issue, it doesn’t fit properly (too loose). It seems to me the better solution is to make that strap just a tad slimmer.

  • @AccordionLadyDi
    @AccordionLadyDi 2 года назад +1

    Great video. Just got mine and although the leather is nice it's definitely to small and obviously there's a problem with the design which causes the cards to fall out. I was hoping that I could put the wallet on my belt but I guess that was not part of the design.

  • @thelhb
    @thelhb 4 года назад +7

    I like the design ( if they can fix the problems ). That finger loop though...... ugh. I wear a chain on my wallet , not because I love 1995 so much, but because I always lost wallets in the past. That would be nice for a chain , but the last thing I need to pull out of my pants when the police ask me for my I.D. Is something metal that looks like it has a trigger. They’ll be holding a candlelight vigil for me.

    10 cards with a money clip and id be 100% sold. gotta have my money clip. seems like a great wallet. I currently have the cheap TG wallet and it's served me well for 2 years and shows no signs on slowing down. i paid 7 dollars (*shipping*) via an instagram ad. best seven bucks i ever spent. For anyone worried about all the paper and business cards they store in their current wallets my advice is make the switch and keep your old wallet in your center console with all the necessary but infrequently used items like SSC, medical cards, dental cards, pictures etc. totally worth it. i will never sit on a wallet or have one blow a hole in my pants again. might buy this despite not having a money clip, assuming they fixed the leather sleeve issue.

    Will this replace your ridge wallet once the trigger is fixed? I'm happy with my knock off ridge, by the look of it 2 to 3 cards in each side of the leather case would be the best fit

    • @ChrispyThings
      @ChrispyThings  4 года назад

      I like the Ridge wallet better. But my edc has already been replaced by the Contour and M1 rail. I go back to Ridge in certain occasions though. IF Grip 6 fixes these issues it’s a contender.

    • @W0rp3D
      @W0rp3D 4 года назад

      @@ChrispyThings just looked at your review of those two, i still prefer the ridge for size and simplicity, but the one thing they all lack is proper carrying and concealment of cash, can you do a test for me, put 6 cards into the grip and then put cash in the middle of them and see how it works, i love the fact that the grip pops the cards up and you can access each one without push any aside, if it works normally with cash in the middle and it's relatively easy to get out that would seal the deal, fyi i fold my notes into 3rds

    Cards with numbers stamped into them slide together differently. I think that might/probably change the results of your tests. Especially with the
    1. number of cards that fit
    2. The shooting cards out issue.
    3. Whether the fan of cards when you push the lever is as smooth.
    Also, i am wondering how a driver's license would display out of the window in the leather sleeve.

    Late to the game here on this review but, outside of the RFID shielding (which can be had by any number of other companies) and the mechanism of the wallet, there's no real benefit. I have an old leather wallet that has some degree of RFID built in. I can access all my cards (it'll hold more than this wallet) AND it has a place for cash. If I were to get this wallet, and I wanted to carry the max cards and cash, it's just as bulky as any wallet ever produced.

    Its not a wallet if it doesn’t carry your Identification information. It’s a card holder. So now you have to remember to carry 2 things.
    What do mean if you carry cash , its supposed to be a wallet. I feel they should have done more testing , then selling.
    I think the key loop will be handy when customers leave it on the wall key rack.

    • @ChrispyThings
      @ChrispyThings  3 года назад

      It carries my identification information. Therefore, it’s a wallet.
      Also, if it carries more than cards, it’s no longer a cardholder. If it’s no longer a cardholder, it’s a wallet. Do you not agree?
      This was fun. Stop by again sometime 😂

      I have this wallet with the finger loop. I was a bit worried at first, but it works great. Firstly, I never feel the loop in my pocket. Ever. Also, the loop actually helps when you're pulling out the wallet, since it's easier to orientate which direction the wallet is facing when you're about to pull it out. :)

    They should just dump the finger loop and move the strap higher. The loop looks incredibly pointless and obtrusive as well. Why would you ever need a finger loop on a wallet in the first place? Would just make it goofy to carry and obviously defeats a much more useful feature. Terrible design choice.
