Hey man, you helped me finally learn how to stop in skates! The tip about bending your knees to the same point where the tip of the toes are was the most helpful!
Now I can play backyard hockey without looking like a tool :)
Thank you for watching.
I've posted a video on this, search for "how to stop spinning hockey stop" or visit my site hockeytutorial for more help. There is a forum page that you can use to post any and all questions. be sure to subscribe so you get notified when i post a new video.
@iiNomnomx3 You can but depending on the condition of the rental skates, it can sometimes be tricky as there not the best to learn on (for a number of reasons)
The video you requested has just been recorded, it will be online within a few days. Join our website forum page to get the latest videos and tips... Thanks for you support
AWESOME videos man. The different angles, speeds and explanations of weight distribution and technique are just so helpful
@Kezazaa Thanks for you support, there are a lot of different things you'll need to take into consideration before starting, it would be much easier to go over them on our site, join our forum page and post your comment there, I'll be able to give you a detailed list of what you might want to learn/get before starting out. RUclips comments done have enough space.. link is in the vid description
Maaan this boi nice with it. Yeah I gotta get like this! Thanks for the tips!
@MrNjdevilsfan30 nothing, they were being sharpened while shooting this video so i used my Mission Fuel skates. they'll be featured in my next videos ;)
Thank you for taking the time and for showing the techniques on how to stop.
@misspurple123412 of course we can, join our forum page at hockeytutorial and we can help you learn. thanks for your support.
I LOVE HIS ACCENT!!!!!!!
Yes, slightly dull skates makes the hockey stop easier to learn.
My problem is with weight distribution, angle of skates, and having my knees bent. I land on my face more often then not when i fully commit to any attempt.
Thanks man will be practising this tomorrow :)
Another informative video, thank you man!!!
@Juanes858 this is a new song "N.V - Hero" it will be on the website after N.V finishing recording it, this is just a sample, glad you like it :)
Getting your skates sharpened is like adding grip or "bite" to them, this will make anything to do with using your edges a little harder. As you skate on them and keep trying to stop, they will become less sharp and your confidence will return. The sharper the skates, the harder it is to stop. Keep at it and it will become easier. :) Thank you for your kind words.
Thanks for all the tips
@NWGunsmoke Thanks for the feedback, it always helps to hear from other :)
thnx man! I'll practice that!
Very helpful. Thanks for uploading
Try to get a slightly shallow sharpen on your skates.
You're a great skater, and there's good advice here, as well as nice demonstrations, but this is an advanced technique, requiring use of inside and outside edges. I've been workng on it for months and still cannot correctly use the outside edge on the rear foot. I started slow and worked up speed. I certainly cannot do a high speed stop, except backwards oddly enough. A skater I speak to at the rink has been working on it for six months.
Thanks for the kind words
Thank you very much man, iv been having the chatter problem. I hope to solve this problem in the summer
Great timing, I have just posted a video on that subject. its on my channel so have a watch and let me know if it resolves your problem.
Is it possible to do this stop with completely dull skates that are used as rentals?
I don't own my own a pair because I go like once or twice a year with friends and I'm quite content with not sinking hundreds into a pair.
I'm really interested because the last time I went; my friend who is a figure skater ran as fast as she could as if she was going to crash and then stopped just shy of nicking me while spraying ice all over me. Needless to say I was so freaked out I literally jumped lol
It's harder to stop with sharpened skates, but is harder to skate if they are not sharpened so..
+Hockey Butera You have to choose, by experience, what diameter of sharpening is best for you. Sharpening your skates should make you better on the ice. You also have to make sure you are sharpening it at a good place. If you do not know where to start, research hollow diameters and which dimensions are best for kinds of skating. You have speed, mobility, stability etc.. it is hard to choose because it is difficult to find one where you can do many things on but with experience, you will find your optimum selection.
@TheHorrorchicken Really glad the video was helpful for you, thanks for your support :)
Thank you man
Your the best person
i really like your vdo !! so cool bro
from Thailand
When you do this are you keeping your weight evenly distributed on both feet?
@nickairsoft123 (try not to lean in any direction except back while stopping) Main reason for this while learning to stop is not leaning back and not bending your knees enough, make sure you keep thoughs points in mind while learning..
Thanks a lot man! My friends told me to just turn and I kept toppling over because I never had my knees bent, nor did I do the hop. They also said to do snowplow for starters but my feet would just come together, so I would never stop.
+Mikey R Thank you for watching!
So we have to put pur weight on our heel so it is easier to turn right?
hi! first your videos are great!, I have a trouble, recently sharp my skates and now I cant stop, just the T stop. any advice to improve?
Thanks for the help.. I snapped my 2 ankles
You do realise that your the one how decided to trust he's advice's. One min did you go full speed on your skates and then try to stop because if you did. You are suppose to start with a 2 foot plow stop then a 1 foot plow stop then a hockey stop. Oh and if I'm wrong about how you broke your ankles. Then sorry for assuming.
What edgeds are you using on your right & left blade
GOOD....THANK YOU.
Hey chris, iv been skating for years now but i used to have the problem with my skates chattering whn i hockey stopped. i found that ther was eithe r too much weight or too much angle on that foot. the chatter was caused by the blade digging in too much that the force is sent back into the skate this causing the jumping or chatter.
ur doing a great job but i thought id let you know.
5:15 Black and skate angle? Typo?
How wrong is it to stop by doing a hop and then actually doing a crossover, aka, stopping to the right and your right crosses over your left that has most of the weight on it?
i has 2 questions. Firstly, how do you have such a empty rink? at slough its constantly full of people.
Secondly, i want to start ice hockey @ slough, not sure what is necessary to start a ice hockey course/team, are u able to list some things i need to be able to do?
thanks, love ur vids
pro editing
with love
I have a quick question. I dont have my own iceskates/ hockey skates. but i was wondering if i can still do this with rental skates ?
I don't know why but my right outer edge dosent make the ice come up.. But the skates are brand new and sharpened, whats the problem?
where I can get this song?
My shoes are blunt can you help me for blunt tutorial
@juvenilee6videos thanks so much ^ ^ just had to know (:
Telforddd!! I live there hha
whenever i hockey stop i always chatter and the sound is horribly loud
ive leaned lower than before but i think it made it worse
i can do this with normal speed but when i go fast theres chatter
sorry but is it better to learn to do this before sharpening my skates again ?
Provided you're stopping in the correct body and skate position then there isnt a big problem.
Its hard to learn form these vids bc you stop lefty, can you get one of your buddys to show the examples?
Just listen to everything he says and switch left with right. It's the exact same thing just with the other leg.
@lilpower1273 No that isnt the main reason for the skipping, its normally down to skaters getting use to hockey stopping with blunt skates as you dont have to worry about the weight being even in both blades and angle being correct when skates are blunt, once they get them sharpened you need to make sure all the basic techniques are correct, if the weight and angle are off, your blades will skip along the ice
I just end up turning when I try to do the hockey stop. The skates dig for a second but I just get shot to the left
Turn your shoulders. So that you can see the side of your leg but you can see your other shoulder. So your kind of twisting your body. Or at I maybe just wrong. But just it a go.
Twisting your body slightly
Great teaching method mate! Just one thing would be when you show them very quick snippets, they are cut a little too short to even distinguish what happened as opposed to your full run up then stops etc!
Having said that, VERY helpful! Thanks! :D can't wait to try it tonight!
lol I snow plow and horizontal stop to cuz im a goalie so I need to snow plow
@nickairsoft123 you need more wait on your skates so you slide instead or turning you just need to watch you vid carfuly
I no it ish
can I do this on figure skates
+Katya Jasmin not really xD
+Deus how come others people do hockey stop on figure skates in korea?
Katya Jasmin not really an expert on the subject but..well its not impossible to stop like this on figure skates but it would take more effort..aaand falling since i think the hockey skates have a bigger groove on the edge than figure skates.
Great advice, but needs better editing to look more professional.
i dont know how to skate yet since my little brother is a really good hockey player
but he does not no how to skate.
So he is a hockey player and doesn't know how to skate?
+Hockey Butera ballhockey
