Never thought I'd be leaving a comment but just wanted to thank you for these tutorials. Cinema 4D is reeeally fun to play with, specially when you come from an Autodesk / Adobe background, and you make it sooo easy. Keep it up, looking forward to more tuts of yours!
I just found your tutorial, a day after my project finished. Great tutorial and the only negative thing I can say is I had wished I found it earlier! Cheers!
I'd seen a tutorial before that showed SetDriver-SetDriven for things like linking multiple values to a single slider... but I had no idea it could do some many other things. Thanks again! Your tutorials are fantastic.
Thanks for the info, I saw a David use it in his octane tutorial and I was wondering what set driver does and then you followed up with this tutorial. thanks!
classic tutorial... watched it several times over the years now... came back today because I'm looking for how to set up key shortcuts for set driver/driven... but it doesn't seem possible?!... I'm really a stuggling to udnerstand why I can't customize a shortcut for that, since I need to do it 100's of times
I did learn a cheap trick you probably already know... You can copy and paste those nodes created when you set up a driver/driven relationship. Delete the expression null and you don't get cross-talk. Still, if you know a way of getting those hard-to-reach ports (like filter controls inside a texture channel) other than the set driven command... That would be amazing. Also... Try dragging attributes from the attribute panel on to its node in the XPresso editor. Enjoy.
eyedesyn I am. Easier to manage than a bunch of XPression nulls, especially if they all are driven by a single user data interface. Setting up the wires through a lot of nulls makes rigs a tad clumsy, don't you think?
easy understandable introduction to xPresso. Thanks. I was wondering if you can make a tutorial about a boat (or any other object) floating in the water. :-) i think there is also some xPresso needed, also collision deformer, displacement maps and so
Very very good tutorial. Thank for that and for all other professional tutorials you make. Now the request: many users of 3D apps are musicians nowadays, and get a MIDI controller in their setup. It should be marvelous if all these "drivers" were "controls MIDI event" coming from external controller. Ones setup, it should be handy to move a knob and get the associated parameter moving accordingly. Think about key-framing of mechanical arms: you could control many movements at once. Can you think of a way MIDI can be used? Thank you
Hello!! Thanks for the tutorial, I´ve a doubt: I was trying to automate scene and then I ran some python scripts and afterwards, I couldn´t be able to set any driver again, just drivens... How may I be able to fix that bug? Thanks in advance!!
Thanx for replied I tried this way. But it controls both targets at the same time I want + to do smothing and - to do somthing else Without overlapping I have Cube and plane I linked the cube x position to the plane x position. But what i want is When i select the cube and move it in + X. It will move the plane in +X. and nothing else But .... When I move the cube in - X I want it to control the Y rotation of the plane. and nothing else Is there a node. That can split the Data to + values or - Values. So that i can control what positive value will do and what negative value will do. On the same parameter. Or a technique. Thanx again. My english is second language.
I've tried to add Xpressions set drive on some parameter, but somehow when I right click on my parameter the XPressions option is not there. Can someone help me please please? I use R20 btw.
@@eyedesyn youtube doesn't let me put a picture here drat...just try to do the same thing as your tutorial. And it only happens on my Mac, My colleague's R20 is totally fine, right click EPression shows up as usual, so I really don't why that is
@@eyedesyn reopen C4D, reopen Mac, didn't work. A new update, my colleague's C4D R20 didn't have this problem before, but yesterday while setting driven as usual, suddenly the same problem happened to her, like a minute ago everything worked fine a minute later when right click on my parameter the XPressions option was not there, I've been looking up online but no one knows how to fix it so far
Sir. you are a magician. can't thank you enough. you're the god of 3D world.

+Ben Leighton It's really handy! Thanks for watching, Ben!
Your subjects are very well chosen, I use a lot of your techniques. Gonna use this more often now! Also, say hi to every person for me. Bye.
+Lars Rietkerk Appreciate it, thanks!
Super cool tips! My first lesson in Xpresso.
Thank you so much, your videos really helps me to keep improving in C4D.
Thanks Leandro! Appreciate your views!

Awesome tip ! thankss
Awesome! Well explained and very useful!
Thanks very much, glad you found it useful!
eyedesyn i am a big fan of your RUclips channel. I love the way you explain things. Thank you very much.
Thanks for the tutorial. expresso was a little scary for me till I watched this. The capabilities will keep me up at night.
Learning the basics is all you need! Much like super simple expressions in AE!
Thank you for your time and these amazing tips.
thanks for the amazingly kind words!

Great. Thank you.
XPresso is such a deep rabbit hole, I'm almost hesitant to ask you to cover more.
But... Could you cover more?
XPresso is very very deep but plan on releasing another quick tip tutorial about more XPresso in the future!

You're talking about putting all the Set Driver/Set Driven Xpresso into one tag vs. multiple tags?

The new R19 sound effector goes a long way in doing these types of things you're talking about! I'd check out some of the videos out all about it!
Ok, thank for your answer. I'll wait for that. But, have you heard about specific plugins letting Cinema 4D dealing with MIDI?
not really, never worked with MIDI's since like...the 1990's when I'd listen to MIDI's on my PC haha
