    I used to work with a neighbor who ripped all his land in the fall. This was before strip till plows came about. We ran two 8630 articulated Deere tractors with the fuel turned to them with IH V rippers. These had the spring loaded reset shanks. They had the parabolic shanks but he would weld a piece of old peanut plow that we cut into a wing of sorts to the points that would lift the ground. Suckers were hard to pull even then. They have new sweeps with wings now that do the same thing. This was in the late seventies. Usually did around three thousand acres with what his brother needed done. So much has changed but a lot stays the same...

      I’ve thought about welding some wings on the shanks of that little pasture ripper.

    I agree with Heavy-D on the ripper. When the soil is lifted up, air, moisture, and the nutrients break down even more to create a new compost bed under the top soil. Rob-O, I will be praying for you on your surgery come Monday. To the Joyce Family Happy Thanksgiving

      I don't think Robert filmed it, but we had one farm that stopped the 50 in its tracks. The old tractor had 500-pound wheel weights and tires full of fluid, so it had to be terrible. Not surprising that it was one of our worst-producing soybean fields.

    • @DylanJoyceFarms

      We are using 28-0-0-4 which is a blend of UAN, Ammonium Thiosulfate, and Water. In the past I have ran just straight 32% UAN just fine.

    What brand of ripper is that your using or is it a home made one.

    • @DylanJoyceFarms
      @DylanJoyceFarms  Год назад

      It is a Hay King pasture ripper. It’s not really made to run in row crop or as deep as we are running it but we like it due to the fact we are a minimum/ no-till farm. We are pulling it 12 inches deep. I’m including a link with some information about it. tarversales.com/index_files/renovators.htm

Discussed it some with y'all's buddy Matt griggs. You know how he feels about ripping but I still think with this higher clay content we have in mid TN ripping has got to help.
