I've been wanting him to play it for years! I'm super glad he's giving it a good go, he's actually pretty good at it so far too for never playing a MH game before and using GS
he is intentionally ignoring them. Why do you think he doesn't talk to anyone with an Exklamation mark over their head? He is a wow player, he knows what that means. He is ignoring side quests and concepts the game doesn't out right tell him to do. He never uses slingshot ammo, the hook, or anything really. He didn't even bother to figure out that his great sword has more than one combo/move set. He just wants to go through all the story quests and be done with it.

@@sam-psonsmith9951 I personally don't care if he only does a monster once, still entertaining to watch. I have a few mates that only did the story then never played again and they loved the game
@@Ragdoll00 I am not saying its not entertaining, just that he is gonna miss a lot of content in the game. I think he doesn't realize that most side quests unlock mechanics, tools, extra equipment etc. He is gonna miss out on a lot of things. Which will also make the combat less interesting for him since he will never experience the full variety of options, skills, tools, and combos. Not to mention that he will have a much much harder time beating the later monsters because he is going to lack knowledge in combat depth and options. Example, he still doesn't know how to graple the monster or use the bugs to swing up on high places. Which can make running after them quite annoying and tedious. Which it wouldn't be if he would use the mechanics the game has to offer. Most of which he will never unlock because he won't do side quests.
If you feel like your weapon of choice only helps you up until a point, or if you feel like your chosen weapon doesnt suit you well, remember theres still 13 more weapons you can choose from
For efficiency sake, players should probably bounce around 2-3 different types of weapons depending on what creature they're fighting... but yeah, I'm a one trick too, every weapon feels at least somewhat viable, and I just love going full beyblade too much.
He is actually doing really well with GS, surprisingly. I do think he would be better off with Hammer though. He lands a good amount of hits on weakpoints, so Hammer would just give him free stuns and he would be more mobile.
The fact there were moments where Asmon wasn't talking and fully concentrated on the fighting has me thinking he's really enjoying himself with the game.
Obviously it’s a good game and basically just the right difficulty for his mediocre level of gaming ability it’s perfect. It also has loot when you can tell he enjoys
And sells for cheap too. Persona 5 on the other hand a doodoo ass anime turn based game ported to pc years after release is still expensive even with discounts wtf
Hey Asmon, hopefully this can help some with your experience: If you go to the Options menu (under System in the menu) on the second page of Game Settings is an option to turn your Camera & Scoutfly Settings to "Do not follow" which turns off that annoying camera snap every time the scoutflies pick up a trail. In the same menu if you go to Controls and set your Sheathe Settings to Manual Sheathe it will keep the game from sheathing your weapon without your input. You can also change the behavior of the targeting reticle to make it less wonky. I set the Camera Style to Target Camera but some people prefer Focus Camera. It can also help to change the Radial Menu Settings (under Controls) to Type 2, which responds to you clicking on the item in the radial menu rather than hold and release. Again, that's up to preference. Hope these help with the start of what's going to be an epic journey.
@@decentsenpai this is the type of game where you need hundreds of hours to discovers some mecanics. I have 400H on world and watched dozens of video and i stilll learn things every day.

I couldn't do it, not as my main anyway. I messed around with the greatsword enough to be competent with it and used it in a few arena quests and a few hunts here and there when farming but that's it.
Honestly the game is pretty much designed to cater to these gigantic slow weapons, all the bosses pretty much you only get to hit once every few moves. The only exception is if you have like, bowguns, dual blades, insect glaive that let you hit a lot more during a fight since they don't have as clunky of animations to get stuck into then get instantly carted by the first hit that comes your way.

Ok asmon, in case you read this:1) if you do anything during potion animation healing will stop, it's on purpose in case you are almost healed and need to dodge. 2) you always have to manually restock after missions 3) read descriptions, against anja for some reason you took the food that increased stamina at the kitchen in mission instead of the health increase, when you had rations which would have been able to increase stamina. 4) nothing to say on the combat side, you are doing honestly quite amazingly there 5) inventory management and undestanding the mechanics, crafting, gear etc is pretty much mandatory for this game, so take the time to read description of items etc etc 6) always ALWAYS get the gear from the supply box at start of mission, most of that gear ( the one maked by a small simbol ) will disappear once mission is done, like first aid kit, so use them first, and always take all the ranged ammo, even fi you don't use it ( and as such put it back into the stash every time you go home ) this way you will start to develop a stash of ammo in case you wnt to try those weapons 7) armor sphere for upgrading armor are progressive, ideally you want to always use the lower onces you need a precise amount to level up the gear so using a higher tier one will mostly waste it.8) health booster, ghilly mantle etc are specialized tools, they are INCREDIBLY useful, learn aboutthem and use them
This is because he's using the "Souls" game style for MH, which you don't really have to do. MH has it's own strategy with using heavier, clunkier weapons different from Souls. Heavy weapons like GS doesnt really benefit from hit and runs and benefits more from anticipating positions and monster attack patterns to land true charged slashes just at the right moment at the right spot.

"Does it show how much health I got him to?" Yes, kinda. The monster icon down of the left has a hearth rate monitor. It shows you when he is aggressive (large spikes & flickers orange). There are also 3 stages for the hearth monitor: 1) Biggest spikes mean monster is above 66% health. 2) Medium spikes mean monster is between 33% & 66% health. 3) Almost flat line means the monster health is under 33%. I think the first red slinger ammo also drops here. You can capture the monster around 20% health. The second red slinger ammo should drop here. It should also get a skull on the map & start limping away to the nest to rest. Under 10% health should drop the 3rd red slinger ammo on the ground.

Fast dps will make bosses die quicker while the heavier weapons specialize in stuns or body part breaking to increase damage/loot. Also some classes serve a utility Sword and shield is the ultimate utilitarian having decent offense and defense, and a special passive that allows you to use items without sheathing. Lance: has ultimate block for stoping one shots, won’t buckle, and can really really chase down enemies like across maps. Not to mention the furthest reach for easier timing, fastest of the heavier sets but has the least stun/break potential. But the quickest for trades since you can block and attack same time.

My bf got me into this series and I never thought I would EVER play. I like turned based games where you have time to think over action types. But now I am hooked!
the SOS Expeditions are where i get the most fun playing this game. A group of hunters tracking and laying traps for a bunch of monsters just randomly is always such a blast! But yeah.. playing this game solo can get a little rough. It is so much more fun playing with a small group of friends.
TL;DR: Hitting the monster is more fun ~ Hammer is easier to swing. Try Hammer. I would say to give Hammer a try. It’s legitimately an easier weapon to play. It’s like the Greatsword, but trade *some* power to regain a lot of mobility. Its attacks also come out much faster. It’s legitimately easier to survive on Hammer. In fact, you can take most of what you’ve learned on Greatsword and apply it to Hammer. You just get to move more. You DO NOT suck. You’re actually doing surprisingly well for a noob. Especially a noob that chose the most unforgiving noob punishing weapon in the game. Greatsword is the ultimate feast or famine weapon. You have to *know* the monsters inside and out to get the big hits constantly. You have to know where they WILL be, which is as hard as it sounds. And if you don’t, because you’re learning the game, you don’t have that knowledge and experience, you end up whiffing and eating shit. Which genuinely sucks. I was there, I lived it. Hammer takes it a step back, and still lets you live the heavy hitter life, just with a little more cushioning, and just a little more forgiveness. Also, you get to bash a monster head until he’s on the ground partly unconscious, allowing you to beat the shit out of him over and over again until he gets back up. More downs over all. Deeply cathartic when you do this to a monster that’s been disrespecting you.
Damn has the great sword really fallen from grace? It used to be the meta for melee weapons back in 1st and 2nd gen. Like what is the point in using great sword when hammer is right there other than cutting tails? It can stun monsters, move while charging, etc. it used to be the flagship weapon now it’s the weapon of all time lmao
dude i didnt even know i could skip that scene until like 300 hours in. i just always watched absolutely fascinated each time, so i never even thought about trying to skip it lol
asmongold has got to be the first brand new monster hunter player I've seen pick up great sword as their first weapon and not immediately drop the game because they're getting their ass handed to them by monsters because of how slow it can be when you don't know monster move sets and what you can get away with without whiffing attacks entirely
Ha, that's why I dropped this game the first week when it released. I thought the combat was clunky and not fun. But, I started it back up a couple of days ago, and so far, that "rewarding" feeling you get from games has not hit me with this game yet. Hopefully, the game gets more difficult because it has been a breeze killing the bosses.
1:39:55 That ones on the game. Asmon was learning and then they threw him a curveball. And then he immediately proceeds to start setting up what is the equivalent in WoW to putting one ability per action bar LOL.
Bro. Showing lots of heart, but just a few things. Not much. If you're going to play a low mobility high damage weapon? Need to practice run and gun. Sheath weapon and move , especially if you're in a tight fighting spot with a tough enemy. Keeping your weapon out will get you hit by everything. Only strike when you know you can get a good hit in and survive. Two? Watch his icon on the map in the fight. If he turns red? He's in enrage. All damage he takes is less and he does far more to you. Best to trap then, hit'em with a dung pod or flash pod to negate their rampage. Third? Always farm to upgrade your weapons and armor. These monsters get tougher and far more agreessuve. Best to keep yourself at a advantage. Fourth? Watch those buffs. They may seem small, but fighting a monster without them put you at a serious disadvantage. Keep weapons sharp. Keep negative buffs off you. Make sure to eat. Use those items from the chest. Take them always. What you don't use will be sent to your storage after. Best to stockpile items. Never know when you'll need them. Lastly? Explore the map. Need to unlock the extra camps in each zone. These fights can take you further and further from your main camp. As the game progresses? Monsters injected into the game will hunt you like Pickle and Bazel. Need extra safe locations to dip into when needed. Plus they make extra fast travel spots for later when hunting monsters deep in the level. Each of these zones have things you'll need to farm for items, weapons, and armor upgrades. Don't be greedy in a fight. The game baits you into trying more. Sometimes it works. Most times it will get you. These monsters adapt to your playstyles. Oh and one more thing. Drinking a potion doesn't fully heal you. It only heals you as long as you keep drinking it. The moment you stop? So does the heals and you lose that stack then. You'll get it! Good job on that Anjanath clear! Also armor spheres are not rare. You can farm them easily in Selina. Iceborne main camp. You'll get enough before then to level up a few sets of armor. I still laugh years later at the Admiral screaming to capture a Elder Dragon 😂 when you can't capture a ED. He was a meme for that fight....so many years we laughed.
Hey dude make sure to use all rations. The red berry looking think is good. Like I mentioned, flash pods can be your best friend. The Will stun for free hits on them and bring down the flying monsters from the sky if the run. Always have them equipped- keep that muscle memory going on sharpening. Like every time you get a sec. Or if he’s running. It’s runs out pretty quick. Other than that. Super impressive my dude. Plus hey man- upgrade and craft everything. Mix match gear to see what works. I know you don’t want to upgrade your gear - trust me, you will get plenty of mats as you play. Also upgrade your pet as much as you can with gear as well -

While I know zack will always go for the big things the whole "go big or go home" mentality. If you're playing for the first time and not an massively inflated ego of a streamer, then use the faster weapons to start off with (Daggers or insect glaive, there is another but its a bit too advanced for new players imo) to get used to how you need to switch and so forth (on PC, easier on console), THEN switch to bigger weapons if you like those, honestly it'll feel like you hit less walls and thats because you literally will have because the learning curve is reduce at that point.
36:10 You weren't half HP, It was really hard to tell because you were currently on fire and thus your HP bar was flashing a different color. You were VERY close to death and the fire damage finished you off. What WAS at half health was your red health. If you had extinguished the fire and not taken ANY more damage for several dozen seconds, your green health would've eventually recovered to fill your red health. Basically imagine red health not as actual health, but as a regeneration point. Your health will regenerate up to that point, but if you take damage before you regenerate your red health disappears.

Asmon, GS main here. You only care about True Charge Slash. Mostly lv3 but can go for lower ones depending on the opening you have. You want to tackle through your lvl 1 & lvl 2 to quickly get to lvl 3. Tackle also helps you to lessen damage by going through monster attacks with it. Look up one of the guides by searching "MHW GS guide". Then practice those moves in your hunts & you're good to go. GS is all about that 1 move & standing still. If that feels boring to you, try hammer. Can't cut tails & you're all about hitting the head to KO it but you can move around while charging, can dodge out of your attacks quite easily & can use something else really cool when the monster is down (repeated downwards hits to hammer the heck out of it). Feels super satisfying. Ohh, can't forget the super cool flying spinning attack you can do with hammers when sliding down a slope. Try it out.
@@NearynHub while charging your attack, you can press either right click or B on controller, to do a shoulder bash.

Hey Asmon, hopefully this can help some with your experience:
If you go to the Options menu (under System in the menu) on the second page of Game Settings is an option to turn your Camera & Scoutfly Settings to "Do not follow" which turns off that annoying camera snap every time the scoutflies pick up a trail.

Still waiting for him to find out about tackle and rolling after tcs
Tackle and roll ftw
Like why hasn’t he tried any other moves? Just curiosity but he’s leaving out a large part of the combat spamming 1 combo this entire time
Honestly asmon picking the greatsword was a genius move. adds such a comedic and relatable value. We've all been there 😂
I couldn't do it, not as my main anyway. I messed around with the greatsword enough to be competent with it and used it in a few arena quests and a few hunts here and there when farming but that's it.
Chasing that low health mon in GS will always funny lol

4) nothing to say on the combat side, you are doing honestly quite amazingly there 5) inventory management and undestanding the mechanics, crafting, gear etc is pretty much mandatory for this game, so take the time to read description of items etc etc 6) always ALWAYS get the gear from the supply box at start of mission, most of that gear ( the one maked by a small simbol ) will disappear once mission is done, like first aid kit, so use them first, and always take all the ranged ammo, even fi you don't use it ( and as such put it back into the stash every time you go home ) this way you will start to develop a stash of ammo in case you wnt to try those weapons 7) armor sphere for upgrading armor are progressive, ideally you want to always use the lower onces you need a precise amount to level up the gear so using a higher tier one will mostly waste it.8) health booster, ghilly mantle etc are specialized tools, they are INCREDIBLY useful, learn aboutthem and use them
He's using old school hit and run style greatsword and is actually doing pretty well. The Unga bunga is strong with him.
He does that in every game. Can't say I enjoy watching it.

Asmongold is simultaneously the most difficult and frustrating but also most rewarding monster hunter player to watch.
Compared to a lot of our modern instant gratification games, the long slow burn of building those hunter brains and muscles makes it really rewaring when they pay off.
But as a veteran passenger, im cringing seeing my roots lmaooo

With stuff like getting water/bathroom break cut out. Which isn't much but it happens so seamlessly. At least it seems that way since I have his playthrough on in the background for the most part
"Does it show how much health I got him to?"
Yes, kinda. The monster icon down of the left has a hearth rate monitor.
It shows you when he is aggressive (large spikes & flickers orange).
There are also 3 stages for the hearth monitor:
1) Biggest spikes mean monster is above 66% health.

Also some classes serve a utility
Sword and shield is the ultimate utilitarian having decent offense and defense, and a special passive that allows you to use items without sheathing. They’re also in the light category.
Bag pipe: is heavy category meaning it has stuns. Gives team wide buffs. Has the most versatility when it comes to quantity of buffs.

Great breakdown
Also the Bonking while standing is nice and the spinning bonk while sliding is fun

Always have them equipped-
keep that muscle memory going on sharpening.

@@XerosigmaZ ikr, also i think my comparison is wrong, he actually did better than me cuz he's using a harder weapon too, when i started i used the easier ones like dual and bow... 😂
Asmon would benefit alot with the hammer, Unga Bunga topples monters = dopamine hit. Join the hammer gang.
agreed! plus its a good stepping stone to greatsword imo
This man single handedly got me back into world!
Haha same, have two copies of the games now
@@NearynHub it's funny you say that because I do too lol, I bought it on release and upgraded when Iceborne came out.
@@Crowsfeathers yeah, since I've got both console and now a PC I feel kind of forced to, at least with some titles. This, due to the sheer performance difference and nicer display.
@@NearynHub same lol i have it on ps4 and pc now
this game is extremly addicting stared over too and also playing bg3 life is good
Anyone who sits in his stream should tell him to spend like 10 min trying all the weapons to see what he likes to play
He likes 2h big swords in every game, not worth to try showing anything else
His mains would be either hammer or GS, but hell probably like GS even more when he learns to use the shoulder bash and to cancel attack animations with it, or with the dodge
@@PyroSoul56 he did it accidentally and killed tizi with it lol
He is 100% a hammer main and doesnt realize it yet
They all told him this, but he didn’t want to practice, as evident with the no tackling. He liked the look of gs h sa
Him taking the stairs Erks my soul 🤣
Caught some of the stream earlier today. He is honestly doing pretty well for going in blind. He ran into and cleared the first wall (Anjanath) and still progressing steadily.
Yes he has a lot of room for improvement with Greatsword, but he isn't at the point where optimal play is required and the various walls he will run into will teach him how to use it better.
Yeah it'll be funny when he reaches his first Odogaron.
the various walls he will run into will make him ragequit
No. He’ll reach a wall, complain about how he can’t get around it while obviously ignoring the exit sign and doorway right in the middle of it, refuse and ignore directions that he’s asking for, talk about how the wall is “objectively bad” in design and then drop the game to farm random Diablo 4 hatebait.
@@CalixSteez just like his talk about the UI, bro couldn't understand it in 0.1 second, was doing stupid shit and then labeled it unintuitive despite every button being labeled, you just have to not be blind
Asmon is definitely a hammer player.
He was SOOO close when picking weapons. I was so amped... and then he went with poop sword
Really though, Hammer would have suited him better. It’s SOOO much more forgiving than GS it’s not even funny. He would be begging to get back on rather than pushing through for his audience.
You could tell he was Hammer, back when he saw his first Aptonoth.
Nothing feels shittier than missing multiple charged slashes in a row.
What is hammer gameplay ? GS is charging so it must be the hit and run one but big weapon ? Not playing MH game
@@remondewa6224hammer gameplay is charging but you can still move your character. Hammer is about landing charged uppercuts and golf swings to the monster’s head. Hammer also has some whirlwind style moves.
@@groin83 oh i see, but the minus part cant cut tail etc is true ? Bcs blunt right
It's interesting when he learns about alternative attacks and that she can shortage his combo and that he needs to max charge his attacks
Asmon best series recently. I love watching him play MHW
Its like watching my grandma fiddle with a smartphone
Glad to see you finally playing this gem
As a MHW fan and player I'm glad he's playing the game and I actually watched these entire videos all the way through.
Bro made Paolumu feel like an elder dragon 😂. That polumu put on an all star performance lol.
Asmon have this tunnel vision where the concentration on the monster is the most priority and didn't even see the cut off tails, loots and everything else is just hilarious
i fantasize going back through all your mcconell content and revoicing him completely as a cat, maintaining vocal fluctuations and all.
That would be really good as short content, also having back to back clips
Bought the master delux edition of the game from Steam yesterday as it was on sale and holy hell am I addicted. Already put 7 hours into the game on the first day and when i went to bed last night, i was literally itching to play more. It has been soo freaking long since the last time i got this immersed into a game.
I dont know why it took me this long to discover this game, but im soo glad I did now (im not saying i never knew this game existed, i know about the monster hunter worlds universe and watched a lot of videos on monster size comparisons and lore).
Cant wait to put 4000+ hours into it.
Dude I don’t mind helping you out if ya looking for someone to play with if ya play on steam ;-;
@homeshall9299 hey man, thanks for the offer, but games like these I really prefer to just explore the world myself and learn everything myself. I know it will take a while, but as someone who has played countless mmorpgs and open world survival games, I think I should be fine 🙂.
I am the type of player who really takes their time with everything. Like if I come across a very rare looking tree in the world, I would just stand there and stare at its detail and walk around it as if im studying its biology lol.
But I really do appreciate you wanting to help though man.
Asmon with a controller and Rocksteady Mantle would be a force to be reckoned with
This game is very keyboard friendly. I'm not one to shy away from a controller, but keyboard isn't holding him back.
@@sodapopinksi667 Oh yeah he's managing quite well for sure. But I feel like the menus and wheels lend themselves really well to a controller.
@@twenty1129 What helped me with the menus was to rebind lot of the keybinds. At least for me the default keybinds were actually kinda hard to reach and press in the heat of the action. Once I found my setup it became a lot more comfortable.
Try it out.
Asmongold must really love a game for him to continue playing it
Asmon attempts to finish the game in one sitting just like what he did in AC6 😂
once he learns to tackle he is going to become a god
The community should teach him the art of tackling
no, just let him cook.
Wait, I played this so many hours, but what's tackling? Is it with the great sword the forward move while deflecting?
@@NearynHubyeah it is
@@NearynHub while charging your attack, you can press either right click or B on controller, to do a shoulder bash. While you are moving foward in the animation, you are completely immune to stun, as well as recieving way less damage from attacks. Its essential for GS, given that it lets you continue attacking in moments where the monster would've canceled your charge. Happy Hunting!!
You know I think he's doing great for a first timer.
Bro literally has the entire comment section telling home to play and he’s like “nah I don’t understand but I know more and I don’t think it’s worth it” bros fucking clueless and refuses to learn
Asmon is legitimately the first person I’ve ever seen that doesn’t preview what the full armor sets looks like on the Hunter.
LOL tbf he probably doesn't know
@@ReizokoRyu He knows he doesn't care.
He continued ? This is like a dream to me
The 5 carts on Anjanath followed by a cherry-tap kill right after the fifth was the most Monster Hunter thing ever. It was fun seeing Asmon get his first shot of that "this is f'in brutal, but I'm getting the hang of it" high.
Glad he's enjoying the game but he honestly needs to learn more of the Greatsword's mechanics, he's getting stomped and misses a lot of of his attacks because he's not using tackle which is one of the most important moves of Greatsword.
He has played the game for what? 8 hours? Cut him some slack he's doing great for someone who hasn't watched any weapon guides and is playing for the first time
Oh no a guy who is brand new to the game and only has a few hours blind into it hasn’t studied and utilized all of the mechanics to their fullest how horrible.
@@noname-eg1rf So you have to wait for 20 hrs of game time before you learn the fundamentals? That's a bad approach for these type of games, you need to practice the fundamentals early so you become familiar and build some muscle memory for it. He wont get too far with his current playstyle, he will eventually get frustrated and once he's done with the game, moved on and gives his review, he will call the game janky/clunky because apparently, no one advised him to practice in the training hall to discover his weapon's full potential.
@@victoriapschen Oh no, the guy is Asmongold, well known for not finishing or putting a lot of hours into (most of) the new games he plays. So since he wont be playing MH:W for too long, why not learn the fundamental mechanics to fully experience and enjoy the game even for a short while?
@@OutOfSightOutOfMinddd you're wrong. He's doing better than most did when the game came out. It'll be fine. the more likely scenario is that people will push him away from the game by telling him he's playing wrong.
Love watching people learn MH, learning the combos is so satisfying.
yeah but man they can be so annoying tho. Like I use gunlance so my main combo is always Y+B>Y>B>Y>R2+B and the start is always a big gamble on if it recognizes Y+B or if it just recognizes Y or decides to recognize it as forward+Y, or as just B. The multi button ones like that get so annoying at times.
I love that he seems to be enjoying this game. It's genuinely impressive how fast he learns stuff, just wish he would shoulder charge for the hyper armour through attacks lol.
