I refer to flash as a ‘reserve parachute’ if EMDR processing gets a bit heavy or clients starting to dissociate

This is an excellent video Thomas. Thank you! You have put Flash into context, which is so helpful. Plus, you have a gift for explaining complex issues in a simple, clear way.

Have done it on myself and oh my gosh!!! It is so quick and powerful. Using it now with my clients and it’s miraculous. I’m in. Thank you for everything. All EMDR therapists- this is the real deal.

Ok, you've convinced me to be open to this. Feels hard to do after being trained by OG EMDR therapists. Just sent you an email!

I❤️Flash too. I did the training w Mansfield in 2017 then the advanced/booster. I appreciated hearing your ways of using flash-I like the idea of using it toward the end of session if something pops in. Like you mentioned, I often use Flash first then standard protocol once SUD goes down and is sticky. I am looking forward to adapting to also using flash when things pop in toward the en. Makes sense. ☺️ Thank you. And the “on your own” flash practice- have you tried the flash app from Mansfield? I’d be keen to hear your experience with it. It’s new and I’m starting to try ways of using it with clients in between sessions.

Thank you! I really appreciate your perspectives, I have used flash for a few years and you’ve inspired me to use it more often, for example at the end of a session and to do some process when time is limited 👍

Do you use flash more then emdr these days with most clients in your practice?

Stacey, I do Flash much more frequently near the beginning of therapy and transition to EMDR as soon as preparation is done. After that, it's usually client choice based on client energy, time, and a wide array of other considerations.

Why do you keep saying flash "like" techniques? Also, this information is blowing my mind! Where do I take a training that includes this 'flash is actually processing the incident??'

Beth, I say "Flash-like," because Flash has evolved and is evolving. The version of Flash/Memory Reconsolidaiton that I practice may not be the same "Flash" as understood by its developers and if I say that what I'm doing is Flash, that opens me up to criticism that I'm not doing it in official or recommended ways (which I'm not). We can learn a lot from Flash about how humans can heal and that's what I'm trying to understand and extract. If you want to get trained, you can do with Phil Manfield: www.philipmanfield.com/ or Ricky Greenwald: www.ticti.org/training/flash/ Both of these view Flash currently as a way to process the incident.
