Recently purchased a Dual 606 off eBay to pair with a locally sourced Marantz 2245. I'm 66 and the Dual/Marantz component combination was what I lusted after as a young man. Maybe not exactly these particular models, but whatever, I could never have afforded them anyway. Just wanted to say thanks for the video. Like most things, once you see how these things are done (I'm a visual learner), it takes a lot of the mystery and fear out of looking under the covers of your gear. At least, it does for me. Thanks again!
danke für Ihre gute Anleitung. Ich besitze 2 Dual 606 und bin sehr zufrieden. Ich denke, ein neuer Plattenspieler für 1.000.-€ ist nicht besser, als diese alten Dual 606.
The mute switch is open during playback. The mute switch closes during end of record and when not in play. The conacts ground the red /green and White /Blue leads together "muting" the signal. This is common to all dual turntables.
Hey, Thanks for the awesome video! Just picked up one of these and looking at the single screw UL cartridge with its locator pin, Am i right in assuming there is no cartridge/stylus adjustment on these models?
So this is a Direct-drive turntable! Quite nice, it doesn't seem to have a target light, just a strobe light, but it could be a good DJ turntable if the whole suspended system is not too bothersome.
The turntable motor does not accelerate quickly, motor power is very low. Also the tonearm is very delicate. I don't think it's a good choice for DJ use, despite being of very high quality. Go with Technics for a DJ turntable.
@@ve2jgs Ah, not the best choice then, of course any from the Technics SL-1200 would work nicely but it's rather out of my range earnings wise, for now at least, perhaps if I'd want to go for something cheap I'd go for a modified Numark PT01, sadly it doesn't have a big platter though.
hey what cartridges work on these? i’m a bit confused on the “ulm” thing. i’ve seen posts that say they can use any 1/2” mount cartridge and also posts that say they need specific cartridges. i’ve come to the conclusion that the dual 621 has versions of both, how can i tell the difference?
I just got a Dual 604 which looks almost identical, but it gave up on me during its first week... This video was a great help to inspect the mechanics, which seem fine. I suspect a blown fuse, as it won't spin or light up, but I can't seem to find it. Would you know where the fuse is located on these models?
Turntable guy: is there a way to calibrate the tracking force so it’s “more” accurate? I found a 606 in great shape at a record store. I’m using you video to service. When I installed the my tester stylus (requires 2.5 grams) I had to set dial to 3 to measure 2.49 on scale. Thx
I have a sound issue with my 606. If o don't use it for a day and then go back to it, I get a heavy bassy buzz going on. Its not like the sound where its not grounded right. This is a huge growl. I have the know how to solder if need be. When I turn, or manipulate the rca cables going into my AVR, the sound goes away. But I have to do this every time I turn it on. There are no videos besides yours on youtube to take a 606 apart. Any idea what that heavy buzz might be?
My 606 just recently started turning way too fast and everything sounds like a chipmunks record. Do you know where to start investigating the cause of this problem? I don’t see any bad caps is there a motor speed or position sensor somewhere that could be bad/dirty?

Excellent video, serviced my turntable. Easy steps to follow. 👍

There’s also some wierd adjustments concerning resonances with certain cartridges- I have this table

No adjustment with the factory Dual (Ortofon) cart. There was an adapter plate available at one time that allowed you to mount other 1/2" carts.

Ortofon OM series are well matched to the ULM tonearm. But there's nothing stopping you from trying any 1/2 inch mount cart.
Are most of the dual turntables similar maintenance/ repair? of course I am not talking about the idler motor models.
Yes, pretty similar. I have a lot of Dual videos on my channel.
Hi! Have been enjoying your repair/maintenance videos for a while now. Is there a way to lubricate the lift pin without removing the tone arm? Thanks!
On a Dual, I think you have to remove the tonearm, but, check the service manual. Downloadable from vinylengine.com
Can I use the regular 3-en-1 oil to lubricate the motor?
I didn't find the blue label 3-en-1 oil specific for motor in any store in my city.

I have the same problem, you only have to change the both chinch plugs. (sorry for my bad english)
How would I change the audio cables and the ground wire? It hums but goes away when I jiggle the cables.
try re-soldering the connections.

Does it have the SM840 motor?
@@TurntableGuy it has the EDS 500 motor
there's a video on speed control repair on yt. your problem may be different.

does this turntable have a pre amplifier in it?
no
Hi. Is this service work for the Dual CS 650 too?
Should be pretty similar
