When I was a junior in high school, I traveled off the coast of California to this amazing marine biology institute. My science class and I all stayed there; we swam with sharks, witnessed for ourselves bioluminescent algae lighting the ocean in the middle of the night, and attended classes all about the different scientific classifications of animals. I already had plans to study in Hawaii and get a degree in marine biology, and come back and teach on Catalina island. Life was perfect. Every night I stayed on the island, in a little house by the ocean, I would listen to this soundtrack. It calmed me, and sounded perfectly like the beautiful ocean I heard crashing in the background, 50 feet away. It carried me off to sleep. It was the best week of my life.
Eventually, I had to leave the island behind. I had to go back home to Arizona, the opposite climate of where I had just been. No more night snorkels, no more research, no more learning about ocean creatures and sciences. My opportunities changed, and I decided to pursue a career in music education. My marine research dream slowly died. But every once in a while, when I feel myself getting stressed, I'll put in my AirPods, sit back, and play these songs, and take myself back to that one perfect week on the ocean island. So thank you for this hour long edition. It takes me back. And thanks you to anyone who may have read all the way through.
