You can literally take a knife cut off shavings and have natural fire starter material. 4. Pine is absolutely the last wood you want to burn in a chimney. It burns too quickly and the tree sap sticks to the inner side of the chimney chute increasing the likelihood of a house fire from your chimney. it builds up over time.

It’s called fatwood. Wood saturated in pine sap. We used to call it “lighter pine” because you just light it and it burns easily. Making it into a torch is a good idea
Hope this comment saves a home. . . After burning a lot of Pine over the years my chimney caught on fire. Luckily I had learned in a College level 1st Aid class to A. Always keep my hose attached B. Always buy a hose that will travel the entire length of the house C. Always keep the sprayer screwed on to the hose. . . I began spraying up the chimney. The water was coming back down very hot, but you gotta do what you gotta do. When the firemen arrived and inspected the chimney, they found no damage. Remember: YOU ARE ALWAYS YOUR OWN FIRST RESPONDER! !
You can burn pine just fine the problem is that you burned it and smoldered it and you caused fuel to build up in your chimney. You need to burn it HOT all the time. Many regions only have pinewood to use as fuel and they do just fine.
Never burn pine inside the house!!!! The smoke will cause creosote to form in the chimney and as it builds up it becomes more and more flammable promoting a chimney fire and consequently, a house fire.
