- Over the last century, Sibu was seen by the Fuzhou Chinese as a land of opportunity. Some immigrants have kept their hometown traditions and others have assimilated into the local Sibu culture. In this "New Fuzhou", nostalgic traditions continued to be passed down for generations. 诗巫是马来西亚砂拉越第三大城市，人口有30万。100多年前，诗巫吸引了一群福州人来开垦拓荒。有人守住了原乡的味道，有人融入了异族的文化，在这个被称为 “新福州” 的地方，浓浓乡情一代接一代地延续下来。

福州人真是看得津津有味，好有意思，福州话虽有差异，却很亲切。我爷爷也喜欢写毛笔字，家里春联过节拜拜的毛笔字都是他写的。当然啦，比不过老先生写得好看。😂
福建人漂洋过海来到马来西亚，真心地感觉他们很不容易，而且还能如此坚守中华文化，我作为中国人，对此感觉到很羞愧，希望能从你们的坚守中看到自己，然后重拾自己的认同，感谢播主分享这段经历给我，谢谢！

My grandfather had never talked about the boxer rebellion. I doubt he even knew it existed. The reason he came to Sibu as a young lad was because both the kuomintang army and the bandits were forcing young men to join their forces. My grandfather didn't want to be a soldier nor a bandit. Hence he left his homeland and came to Sibu to continue his living as a farmer.
@@rina8141 Boxer rebellion started from 1899 till 1901 while KMT first establish their power on 1919 and civil war break on 1927. I think your grandfather just too young to experience boxer rebellion in China at that time.

看到开顺3号。我掉进了70年水上“曼丹”最风光的时候。我没记错“刘扬祥”年轻的时候“很胖”？我应该是73年在国礼的曼丹跑了2-3趟。都是跑诗巫-啦蜡。只记得国礼，哑巴，建建（刘扬祥？）一晃眼50年过去了。
22 years associated with sibu
Been staying in Singapore for 6 years now and stumble upon this video made me missing my hometown Sibu so much. I remember the anchovy uncle as my mum always stock up anchovies and salted fish from him 😂. Anyway the river name is Rejang not ranjang.
But Mediacorp didn't capture the Christian side of Foochow (Sibu) ; Sibu also having the most churches too
