I'm vieja (old), 73, and I recently learned a new trick with sopapilla, just in case there is any left over dough (doesn't happen often, right?) or if you want to pre-prepare. Roll out your pieces, cut and set them on the tray as you have done, then FREEZE them tightly covered. You can drop the frozen dough into your hot oil and they will 'poof' just like you were making them fresh!
Rachel, I love your videos. I have tried your recipes with great success. Would love to see you make buñuelos.
I agree!!! Our blood pressure organically goes WAY down!! Your personality , soo sweet, no showboating, etc.. To the point, n very professional.!!!🙏🏽😍 blessings
I just love love this channel. Rachel makes life so much earier because of her positive outlook which reflects in her personality and her cooking that is why I watch her channel.
Thank you so much for your sweet words. ⚘👍❤
I'm hooked!
I know you are not old enough. but you remind me so much of my mother when she was around your age she has passed already 17 years ago. But your hands the way you knead the masa so many similarities remind me of her. I love watching your videos
Mrs. Rachel! You have taken me back to my childhood with this one! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️
A retired bull fighter opened a restaurant in the town I grew up in. He brought his grandmother in from Mexico City to teach his cooks how to authenticly make the recipes. The Sopapillas were fantastic & I've missed them (and all his yummy dishes) for many years! I'm definitely going to try your recipe, they look wonderful too.
I wanted to jump through the screen and dig in!!! Looks SO Good!!! 😍😍😍😍
Oh my goodness I love this recipe so much! I can already taste the sopapillas with sugar and cinnamon! The honey ones dripping look soooooooo gooood!!!!
Thank you so much, they're super delicious all of them. I appreciate your comment and support of my channel. Blessings. ❤⚘
If I learn to make these my family will never let me rest!!!!
OMG... I'm originally from Colorado and now live in So. California, no one knows what these are here in California. Thanks for sharing your delicious recipes with us!
I discovered sopapillas while living in New Mexico in late 70’s! I would fill them with rice and beans and then trade off with honey! You can do anything you want with those little puffs of delight!!
You’re so fun to watch and listen to Rachel!
I remember a little place in Albuquerque that sold stuffed sopapillas. In the 50's you could put your order in take a tour and your food would be done by then pay and go. Had a great orange drink in little milk carton to wash it down. Yum great memories
Sopapillas ❗ hugs 🤗. Thank you for the recipe. Haven't had these in years. Thank you 😊
Hello Rachel they look good . I can't wait to try recipe God-bless you.
OMG! I’m so happy that I found your videos and have subscribed to your channel. I see so much of my mother and grandmother’s cooking in the way that you do things. I just love the way you do a yum when it’s time for a taste test, I just start to salivate and wish I was tasting it too! I’m in my 70’s and wish I could do more of the cooking, but my arthritic wrists don’t always let me do to much of that! I’m passing these videos to my daughters and granddaughters and hopefully they will follow in our cooking traditions! Thank you, thank you so much! I think we need to see your Ron! ❤️❤️
Hello Rachel, I just recently found your RUclips channel. I enjoy watching all your videos. You are an excellent teacher! Please keep it up!
I was so excited to this. Sopapillas are my fave!!! Yum, yum, yum
Those look amazing! I love sopapillas..Yum.😋
I love this video! When I was in middle school, our Spanish teacher taught us about sopapillas. I made them numerous times as a kid & enjoyed them. I'm now in my early 50s. I lost the recipe our teacher gave us students eons ago, so, muchísimas gracias, Rachel, for your video. I need to make these again soon. Thanks for conjuring up delightful childhood memories for me!
❤
you really put your heart into your cooking! ❤️ these sopapillas seem so delicious 😍

Yes
Yes she do.
Rachel I love all your recipes and the way(El Metodo) you cook! You are great!
I love this woman!! Easy peasy recipes and THE EASIEST to follow. I love to make tamales and usually use prepared masa. What a difference using her method. Takes a while ..but gives me time to think. Results wonderful and makes your heart and tastebuds SING!
Oh my goodness I used to eat these when I was a kid at a restaurant in Tulsa Oklahoma. The name of that restaurant was Casa Bonita. When our parents took us there we always knew it was a special occasion. They served honey with them and you put honey inside them. Thanks for the memories. Oh gluten gluten!! If loving you is wrong I don’t want to be right.
A childhood favorite of mine...54 now..popped the bread bubble and poor honey inside with butter. I never have been a sweets gal but these I'm definitely going to give a go. My Stewart loved the Pork Chop Tomato gravey. 🍅 My blender mixture on that was greener color than yours because we love Cilantro so much we blend up a lot more in our mixture...it was so yummy 😋 Thank you for being a BLESSING.
I’m so glad I found your videos. My husband is Mexican & stepdad texmex the recipes are slightly different but iqually delicious 😋 only thing is I never learned the texmex way! U teach so well and seem like an amazing lady! Mil gracias a y bendiciones..
I love your channel. It's like revisiting my childhood all over again.
Yum. I'm with Ron, the honey is my fave way to eat them. I've never made them but they look easy enough. I'll try them this weekend.

I love a cook who enjoys her food.
Rachel, I used your recipe to make sopapillas today and my husband ate 8 of them...3 were stuffed. They were so good and they puffed like you wouldn't believe. Thank you so much, you are the best. I just wish I could figure out how to make them gluten free(I'm the only one that has to be gf). Next will be the Corn Tortilla recipe if I can find the flour which has been difficult to find in our stores these days. Have a blessed week.
Marie
I absolutely love your channel! I love your personality and your haircut! You wear some beautiful aprons too. These sopapillas remind me of my french grandmother's New Orleans beignets and sprinkled with powered sugar. Yummnmm! Thank you for the recipe!
Thank you for your sweet words.❤
Came across one of your videos, one late night. I now watch you all the time. You make cooking look very manageable. Thank you so much, some of your dishes I new how to make, but have been doing your recipes now. Hope you continue with the videos. I love to try new foods.
Yummy 😋🤤👍🏽❤️
Looks delicious
Thank you! I LOVE sopapillas!!!
😋 I love these with honey. I had my first one when I lived in New Mexico. I used to call them soapy pillows. Lol
Loved watching your video. My mother made these & her process was basically the same with some minor differences: She added baking powder (instead of yeast) to her standard flour tortilla dough recipe and then let the dough "sour" on the counter for a couple of days. When they were hot out of the oil she sprinkled them lightly with salt, popped a hole in the puffy top, & spooned some jam inside. Wow I miss those & I'm excited to try your recipe. Thanks for your memory inspiring recipes & very thorough explanation of the process.
Ms. Rachael, your sopapilla recipe looks SO good as does your sopapillas themselves!!! Yummo!!!
Oh Rachel my husband will be very happy Thank you ❤
OMG! Ive looked for these since 1975! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I had them in texas. Even in mexican resturants they try to pass off bunuelos as sopapillas. Both are good, but i cant wait to have them again after all this time. I had them with honey and they were divine!
I just subbed, in part, because the recipes look absolutely amazing! But also because you give off this vibe of true kindness and warmth. You are a truly lovely lady. 💐
🥰❤
Oh my goodness! I am salivating over here. Thank you so much, Rachel!

My favorite Mexican dessert 😋 delicicioso with honey 🍯
Sopapillas are among the first items I ate at a Mexican restaurant as a teenager that I REALLY wanted to learn to make. Everything was good, but these little pastries were something special. Thank you so very much for showing us all how to make them - all these years later (i'm 67 now!!!) I'm finally going to get to learn!!
