This is a great video! The only thing I'm not clear on, though, is what causes the output shaft to start turning when the slider engages the dog teeth of the gear you're shifting into. The gears are free wheeling on the output shaft at first, but when a gear is selected the shaft starts turning with the gear. What makes it do that?

The half of the dog clutch which is moved by the slider is fixed to the output axle (for 1st and 2nd gear. The gear attachments are reversed for 3rd and 4th to have a more compact shifting mechanism).
This means that once the teeth of the dog clutch are engaged, the input and output axles are connected. The gear fork (part that moves the sliding half of the dog clutch) is allowing the half dog clutch to rotate with the output axle while at the same time pushing it axially. The parts are of course being lubricated by the transmission oil.

Nice video. Do you know of a similar one for a G50? Would it be much different? Thanks.

hi. your light please. I have a rattle noise at idle when the engine gets hot and the clutch is out. when I press the clutch in no noise. I use swepco 80/90 and I change the trans oil every 10.000. miles. what do you think throw out bearing or input/ main shaft bearing? or anything else?? thanks
