Got the same issue from the padding on the back, I am currently waiting for my blisters to heal. I'm thinking either buying an Olympus 5 again or Go for Salomon Genesis. I welcome any suggestions. And thanks for the review.
Great review. Altra are killing themselves. Olympus 3&4 were amazing. The 5 I had the same wear issues on the pinch points with two pairs…now I won’t invest in these. What to buy though? I’ve been wearing my Altra Via 2 during the dryer months on the trails but there’s no grip on gravel or in the wet…what to do! The Topos are not a great fit and the only ones that fit comfortably is the Wilds but will they take the British winter…Great review. Thanks for sharing
Interesting to hear your experience...Tried some 6's on a couple of days ago, looking to replace 5's, and they appeared to be a bit narrower mid foot and the heel padding didn't seem to make them more comfortable also the loop at the rear, which some dislike, seemed smaller and couldn't readily use it to assist in putting them on, a minor issue...think I will track down some more 5's...also tried Topo Mountain Racer 3's which were a better fit than 6's but not enough to buy...
Thanks John, it’s such a shame isn’t it that Altra don’t seem to know how to build on success with the Olympus 4. Good call with chasing down the 5s though as they are going at a bargain price at the moment.
Thanks for the review! I have Olympus 4 and... I'm disappointed, very - first problems after less than 200 kilometers, as usual in Altra, rip on the sides at the front. Fixed, but I think it's not reliable. The same with Torin 7 - issues after just 100 km, so I've returned them. My colleague damaged two Olympus 5 in less than year, so I've decided to not use Altra anymore. Topo is better, but there, in EU, not easy to buy. Based on multiple long-term users reviews, Altra started to have some quality issues 2-3 years ago and still can not fix that, sad
Honestly, i think you are right. The quality of Altra's have fallen a lot in recent years. I have loved using them in the past and they used to hold up really well... not any longer. I might look at the Topo superior (i think its called), it seems to be getting good reviews? All the best :)
@@davidcressey I do not know, so far I've tried only Topo Specter and Topo Ultraventure 3 - both are great (so far). They do not provide as much space for foots as Altra, but are still better than most of shoes. And they are not zero drops - it can be negative, but it's big plus for me
@@davidcressey Yep, right now it's difficult - maybe Merell Rubato? They stopped production, but it's still possible to buy them - veeery comfortable, zero drop and also very durable
Hi thanks for the review. I managed to try on a pair of the Olympus 6 last weekend. I agree with you awful heel. Started to rub in the shop. Olympus 4 were the best and Altra has ruined the Olympus model.

I'm on the trail, I've already done over 300 km and so far they're working great
That’s really good news Tom. Is it the Lejog or Jogle?

I feel your pain, I am in exactly the same position.

Finding a decent shoe that is also zero drop is nigh impossible I have found.

Ooh … I will take a look!

Totally agree Matt, they need to do something fast or loyal customers will give up on them.
