He had so much passion and life, changed the entire musical theatre game and he never got to see his own dreams come true... he didn't even get to watch the live performance of Rent. I think that's the saddest thing that can happen to an artist, to work towards something your whole life and never see it turn into the amazing thing it becomes.

When I first saw the trailer for Tick, Tick, Boom! a few months back, I was giddy to say the least. Rent has been one of my favourite musicals for most of my life, and I was a big fan of Jonathan Larson. I knew about the story of Tick, Tick, Boom! I just didn't know the music. It’s amazing how Andrew nailed who Jonathan was! I can see Oscar buzz with the soundtrack. Just think what this world would musically have if he hadn't passed away 😢 Thank you Jonathan Larson!

As a child I knew OF Rent, my mother had a movie version on dvd and i always liked to play with dvds and our player and i only watched snippets but the cover of the dvd's box was the classic RENT style and forever i always thought of that weird name for a movie, but its 'pretty' cover. Never until i turned 16 i got into it and I'm 21 today and i never knew a jon larson, but his work stuck to an 8 year old kid and made that kid sing at 16 and cry at 21, i just- his work is still largely regarded and acknowledged in 2021 and he never got to see it. It breaks my heart, as an artist and as a young person.

    Stop the clock
    Take time out
    Time to regroup
    Before you loose the bout
    Face the thrill
    Back it up
    Time to refocus
    Before they lap it up
    Year's are getting shorter
The lines on your face are getting longer
    Feel like you're treading water
    But the riptide's getting stronger
    Don't panic, don't jump ship
    Can't fight it, like taxes
    At least it happens
    Only once in your life
    They're singing, "Happy birthday"
You just wanna lay down and cry
Not just another birthday, it's 30/90
    Why can't you stay 29
Hell, you still feel like you're 22
    Turn 30 in the 90
Bang! You're dead, what can you do?
    What can you do?
    What can you do?
    Clear the runway
    Make another pass
    Try one more hook
    Before you're out of gas
    Friends are getting fatter
Hairs on you head are getting thinner
Feel like a clean up batter
    On a team that ain't a winner
Don't freak out, don't strike out
Can't fight it, just like city hall
    At least you're not alone
    Your friends are there too
    They're singing, "Happy birthday"
You just wish you could run away
    Who cares about a birthday?
    But 30/90, hey
    Can't you be optimistic?
You're no longer eons of you
    Turn 30, 1990
    Voom! You're passes
    What can you do?
    What can you do?
    What can you do?
    Peter Pan and tinker bell
Which way to never never land?
    Emerald city's gone to hell
Since the wizard blew off passed the map
On the streets you hear the voices
    Lost children, crocodiles
    But you're not into
    Making choices, wicked witches
Poppy fields, or men behind the curtains
    Tiger lilies, ruby slippers
Clock is ticking, that's for certain
    They're singing, "Happy birthday"
I just wish it all were a dream
It feels much more like dooms day
    What 30/90 seems
    I'm dying for a twister
    I don't see a rainbow, do you?
    Turn 30 into 90
    Look into my hands now
    What the ball has passed
I want the spoils, but not too fast
    The world is falling
    It's now or never land
    Why can't I stay till
    The forever end?
    30/90 (5)
    What can I do?
    What can I do?

This movie inspired me to such a deep level and brought be to tears. It really means a lot to see someone’s story, and not just the good parts. Aretha Franklin’s movie RESPECT had the same effect on me. Johnathan Larson was an amazing person, I’m glad his story is being shared.

It’s sad when you realize how hard Jonathan was working from 1985 straight to 1995 and then he died unfortunately and during that entire time he was producing songs creating hit musicals and just pushing himself and I love that he was able to do so much in just 10 years but again I feel like he didn’t have time to really take time and rest and chill and appreciate what he was doing because he died when he was so young 35 and he died the day before his musical rent first showed it was all so sad rip Jonathan you have made some a awesome musicals and you really did your best 🥺🥺🥺🥺
