For location sound the Sennheiser Mkh416 was developed in the 70s and is still the workhorse of professional recordists. Same with large dynamic mics, they're still the same technology. Microphones are still analog, wireless is still analog, preamps are still analog. You'll have a slightly lower noise floor overall now with modern professional equipment but hardly noticeable. Most of the significant differences in sound quality today come from what happens after the recording has taken place. In the case of this Testarossa, two things matter for the sound you hear. 1: How knowledgeable the recordist was about what type of mics to use and where to place them. 2: How the different tracks were used in the mix in post production. For example here you can hear quite a lot of additional engine bay noise when the engine returns to idle (pulleys, valves etc.). So the revving you hear is probably coming from near the intake, to get the induction note. There should be a mic right next to the exhaust as well and potentially they could have faded to that to use during idle. Nothing to do with the advances in equipment since the 90s.

Just with pedals and shifer, no e brake needed to do a simple drift but Tsuchiya does it in normal tires, stock suspension and speed. Fast drifting have virtually no countersteer. Most drifts on the internet are just for show.
I can assure all of you that Gan-San (Motoharu Kurosawa) is no slouch, he is an old man that will always push to the limit. Tsukuba is a small tight track that emphasizes on cornering speed with really short straights. The NSX also has 150 kg advantage on the Testarossa. And FYI, the NSX-R beat the 360 and the 355 in the same race at Fuji Speedway, which is a power circuit. So that shows you what potential the NSX has with even a measly 280hp.
My grandfather bought a Testarossa to flip when I was maybe 8yrs old. My dad took me for a ride once and all I remember is it was very fast and I couldn't see over the dash.

Apart from the generation, there's also the price argument. So there's always gonna be a thing. Honda wanted to meet the Ferrari 348 (first the 328). The 360 and 355 are from one or more generations later.

people saying ferrari driver didn't push as hard are actually wrong, infact nsx driver was way too much overdriving, which means nsx could've been more faster. u don't get 4 wheel slides at last corner without pushing the car to max, and that is exactly what i saw on ferrari onboard. gan-san was pushing both on entry and exit with minimal oversteer to maintain maximum forward thrust. ferrari is just not made for cornering, even just watching the onboard the ferrari seems like heavy boat compared to tight NSX.
Yet both will be soundly beaten on the track by modern emission restricted equivalents. Some hot hatches would beat that old Testarossa around the track.
@@skrattzerat5831 suspension. That's the secret to make a car faster on the track. Still, countries like USA and Australia keep betting on 5-7 liters of V8 because it's real man's engine according to them and produce more power without modification.

nagmashot Coming from a Porsche guy, Porsches aren't reliable, although you may mean that older Porsches are "analog", in which they were. If you consider a 930 reliable, then you'd be dead. Those things will kill you. NSX, although track-focused and born on the track is still a Honda. Replacement parts still sold lower than a Porsche although higher than your average Camry.
They totally tried to give the NSX a head start off the line. No professional driver would have that slow of a reaction time. Now its obvious why they compare an NSX with a Testerossa instead of the 512TR which was the successor. It looked nearly identical and had the same engine, but was more powerful and was produced in the same years as the NSX (The Testerossa went out of production at the same time the NSX went into production. The NSX is a great car but a 100+ bhp deficit is a huge hurdle they knew they could not overcome. Gordon Murray even used the Testerossa's acceleration as a bench mark reference when he tried to demonstrate how much faster the F1 was.
You can 100% also drift the Ferrari, there's just such a gap in the way they were made that the NSX had the opportunity to lose some speed with drifting. Not saying the Testarossa is bad, just saying it is heavier, older and not really meant for the track like the NSX
This is so fake. Listen how high is the Honda reving and how low RPM is the Ferrari. It's obvious that the Ferrari driver did NOT go as fast as the Testarosa can go.....

The look, the sound, and absolutely planted on the track. The Testarossa is downright spectacular. The NSX was just all over the track. I would be afraid to drive that Honda.
I’m surprised the NSX performed so well against the Testarossa because I used to have an NSX and was not impressed with it’s power at all. The low end was atrocious but the top end was not bad at 167mph. The only impressive thing was the balance which made it fun to drive on winding mountain roads.
Damn, I love both so damn much! I'll go with the NSX though. The testa and NSX both look stunning in person, but the NSX just has this vibe and presence. Whenever I think of it, I just imagine craftsmanship and ingenuity. Good on ya Honda and Acura.

u don't get 4 wheel slides at last corner without pushing the car to max, and that is exactly what i saw on ferrari onboard. gan-san was pushing both on entry and exit with minimal oversteer to maintain maximum forward thrust.
ferrari is just not made for cornering, even just watching the onboard the ferrari seems like heavy boat compared to tight NSX.
I was wondering why this video has 1.7 mill views, I learned the reason why pretty quick lol. The most insane nsx driving I’ve seen 👏🏽
I love old cars, unrefined power without emissions restrictions.
Nsx had emissions gear
Automotive porn - language no barrier!
Los años 90s con excelentes autos aspirados, cuándo la vida era más sencilla.
288km/h :) It's crazy how engines and cars have evolved speed and horsepower wise. I went 265 with my A6 2.0TFSI. That's an ordinary average car today.
But the feel like in the old cars are long gone :(
Nowadays you don't need 10 liters of V8 to have bigger output. Engineering has come a long way and even a 3 cylinder could pumping more hp while naturally aspirated by today's technology.
If Honda could do this with a V6 I can only dream about what they could with a Vtech V12
This track has always made slow cars look fast. Many of Honda's FR legends gained their reputation from this track. Both cars are awesome but if this test was 3 laps longer or held on Motegi the results would be different. Dori Dori waa drifting because he new the track was better suited for the Honda so he didn't bother saving his tiers.
Yeah it was very bias.. the whole thing was
The incredibly long straight and the high speed last corner usually balance it out. The testarossa was just not built for a race track
Zero TheR why do they call tsuchiya dori dori?
@@VX3800 Dori is short for drift in Japanese. They call him "dorikin" or something which means drift king because he was a notable pioneer in drifting. I think dori dori is just a double nickname
Ki - Free Beats ah fair enough
I love both cars it’s a shame they are no longer produced puts today’s cars to shame in terms of looks and power with the exception of Bugatti of course.
Finally
The sickest youtube recommendation I've seen
Legendary cars, great quality footage, and the drift king himself 👌
Lovin' these vintage shots of Tsukuba
NSX introduce practicality and reliability to the world of supercars
utterly bullcrap JDM fanboy claim... the master of endurance racing and reliable practical sportcars was long befor NSX Porsche
nagmashot Coming from a Porsche guy, Porsches aren't reliable, although you may mean that older Porsches are "analog", in which they were.
If you consider a 930 reliable, then you'd be dead. Those things will kill you.
NSX, although track-focused and born on the track is still a Honda. Replacement parts still sold lower than a Porsche although higher than your average Camry.
nagmashot Why so salty? 🙄
Blue bruh Porsche’s are one of the strongest in endurance racing....
S19 Pajua I never referred to endurance racing but you are right
They totally tried to give the NSX a head start off the line. Gordon Murray even used the Testerossa's acceleration as a bench mark reference when he tried to demonstrate how much faster the F1 was.
both are extremely excellent build quality icons i don't care what anyone says. love them both
Testarossa: I Will Travel this circuit at the most finest and elegant, surely will work...
NSX: *WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*
Great nostalgic video, Testarossa is my dream car since I was a kid!
Definitely a unique and iconic design
Testarossa: Okay I'm ready to do this, let's race!
NSX: Cue "Deja-Vu"
I have been in this place before
The NSX seem to be a funner car to drive and you can hear more of the motor than the Ferrari.
You can 100% also drift the Ferrari, there's just such a gap in the way they were made that the NSX had the opportunity to lose some speed with drifting. Not saying the Testarossa is bad, just saying it is heavier, older and not really meant for the track like the NSX
What would be the result if those two cars would be driven in monza, by italian drivers? Guess:)
Nsx would still win
This video is show proof drifting more faster than gripping
The guy who is driving the NSX is a hell of a driver. My respect to him.
I’d take the Testarossa. I still respect the NSX though.
It’s still drop-dead gorgeous.
Tyre sizes were very small back then, considering tyre tech wasnt exactly state of the art! 255 section rear on ferrari with 380hp
16 inch
David C yeah my Rsx type s has slightly wider tires than the testarossa lol
Any reasons why some cars have narrow front and wide rear tires?
2019 and the the NSX still looks timeless compared to the Testarossa.
Jon R both styled by Italians
Jon R Ferrari is still more badass though
@@guy_with_no_name7317 Famous, you mean?
oranges yes
@@guy_with_no_name7317 ok
That NSX made the plump Testarossa seem like a muscle car with how they cornered.
Wow i seen this vid so many times. And now 2020 i can't belive i actually have both amazing cars!!
ほんとだ、凄い‥
If this was filmed in Italy the outcome may have been different...
😂ok.
This is so fake. Listen how high is the Honda reving and how low RPM is the Ferrari. It's obvious that the Ferrari driver did NOT go as fast as the Testarosa can go.....
Pretty obvious, the guy in the NSX just stepped out of the pub and into the car.
He does that with all the cars he drives. Mr Tsuchiya Is the drift king for a reason
@DC Williams Keiichi Tsuchiya does this every single day, Akagi touge? Drift, Gunsai Touge? Drift, tight corners around Monaco? Drift, Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift set? Drift, a random track? You guessed it, drift
I remember watching these videos during the Napster days on my first pc
Both of these beauties warm my petrolhead heart. If I could see well enough to drive and had the money, I would own both of these.
The guy driving the NSX is a total hooligan. What a gem of a video I've stumbled upon here
Watching this gave me the sudden erge to dig out my old Sega Master system and play Outrun
Ferrari vs Poor Man's Ferrari. I'd still take the Miami Vice mobile over the NSX, plus it reminds me of one of my favorite arcade games Outrun!
I'd take the poor man Ferrari.
@@emmanuelperrina6105 Me too. Honda power!
@@NeskoKHCLICK and I say that as Italian. The nsx is an amazing car.
@@emmanuelperrina6105 My 2 dream cars, NSX and F40.
On Suzuka or at Monza I don't think the nsx can beat the Testarossa
NSX can beat Testarossa in the corner. Especially when NSX driver is Tsuchiya Keiichi, the drift king.
But if Schumacher drive the Ferrari he can beat the NSX at Monza
If Schumacher drive the Ferrari. The one who drive NSX must be Senna.
Oh I saw a video when Senna drive a nsx it's awesome I agree and MS with the FXX on the french GP it's amazing too
Mike Blue Yeah. That's really awesome.
The look, the sound, and absolutely planted on the track. The Testarossa is downright spectacular. The NSX was just all over the track. I would be afraid to drive that Honda.
He drifted it on purpose just to have some fun.
Dang, that NSX was a DEATH TRAP! Just Slided on EVERY corner!
Guess which one is still on the road without any major maintenance?
David S nsx
yeah , that toyota i saw in the background .
@@matdooley Haha no kidding. Toyota is king!
Is that the grand national logo?
Both beautiful cars. Thanks for uploading.
what a gem of a video this is. and I have no idea what they're saying!
i finally got something that deserved to be watched on my recomendations
I’m surprised the NSX performed so well against the Testarossa because I used to have an NSX and was not impressed with it’s power at all. The low end was atrocious but the top end was not bad at 167mph. The only impressive thing was the balance which made it fun to drive on winding mountain roads.
Holy shit bro did u give away that beautiful car?
Damn, I love both so damn much! I'll go with the NSX though. The testa and NSX both look stunning in person, but the NSX just has this vibe and presence. Whenever I think of it, I just imagine craftsmanship and ingenuity. Good on ya Honda and Acura.
Well in a few laps the NSX would have no grip
At 6:05 running in the 90s plays in my head :D
Whenever NSX drift, Keichi Tsuchiya just teasing you along the race...
Testarossa was never meant to beat any lap record. It is a grand tourer car that is both comfortable & practical it even have kind of large front trunk. NSX in other hand, is a better performer around the track and as bonus a good daily driver too.
