For those who don’t know, William Harris Crawford was a real diplomat between the years of 1813-1817, and he was an American diplomat to France mainly. During his time there he learned a lot of French culture and learned to speak French. His personality is a near match to G&B’s version being crass but also understanding. … Also the lore of Roscoff: The British had surrounded the French city with their royal naval fleet as part of their joint deal of quarantine with France. By this time both French and English soldiers were stationed in the city maintaining it as a controlled headquarters of medical facilities through Europe. Hence why there’s a large amount of medical supplies on the map. Crawford has already been in the city for about 2 years now, put into the equivalent of house arrest for both his safety and because the British still wasn’t friendly with Americans. They thought he was a spy and wanted to control his location at all times. With the Royal Navy surrounding the city, and being under house arrest, Crawford was essentially trapped in Roscoff. Crawford didn’t know anything about the infection until about a year before writing his first letter. Somehow he had managed to get a letter through the British naval blockade and to the US government telling them how bad the situation is. The US government would order the marines to bring Crawford back to the states. The letter took 3 months to reach the US. By that time the infection and zombification situation worsened. About a week before the American marines would arrive, people began rising from the dead in Roscoff, mauling each other in the streets, attacking anything in sight. Crawford climbed into the attic of his embassy home with limited supplies. A group of British and French soldiers barricaded themselves in the church where an altercation broke out resulting in terrified French soldiers tying up the British soldiers. Tensions rose to the point where one French soldier snapped and began killing his British hostages. This all stems from anger and stress of the British abandoning the French at Waterloo. A final group of French soldiers barricade and hide out in a house nearby the cemetery. Finally after sailing for 3 months, the American marines would arrive to find the city desolate and ruined. Thinking it would be an easy search and rescue operation, only 20 marines would be sent into the town to search for Crawford, while the rest stayed behind to be merry. After the group of 20 left, the merry men still aboard the ship would attract undead hoards to their ship by the noise of their jovial activities. They would be quickly overwhelmed due to the claustrophobic and close quarters nature of the ship. The 20 marines would come across the British in town. An uneasy truce was formed, with the promise from the freed british captives of safe passage through the Royal naval blockade going out. After the group of 20 made a loop path back to the ship, they would find the entire crew were killed by the undead. Before setting sail back to America, they would have to clear the ship of their fallen comrades.

Crawford is: To put it briefly, in comparison to what I wrote up last time: In 1813, Crawford was appointed United States Ambassador to France, meaning that he is a representataive of the US President (James Madison) to Emperor Napoleon. Later being appointed US secretary of war after the events of Waterloo. Based on this, I can promptly theorise that Crawford has a lot of significant importance to the lore. His connections to Emperor Napoleon could keep relations high and most likely result in the formation of a Military alliance. Considering America was in good terms with the French at the time (Example being the Selling of Louisiana). Furthermore, if I am correct that Roscoff as a map's purpose is the extraction of Crawford, then both his experience with his encounters with Shamblers/Zombies and his connections with Napoleon could make his position as a later appointed Secretary of war in 1815 really strong for the lore. Likely resulting in better coordinated strategies and incursions in retaking Europe from the Empire of the Undead. Based on what year this is taking place and infected Jean in your great video, it is likely 1815-1817, after the events of Paris. In conclusion, William Harris Crawford was an absolute chad for his time. So much so that he was the face of the outdated US 50 cent bill.

Glad that they’re adding another Holdout map with Jutland, Berezina must’ve been feeling lonely. Now seriously I think Jutland is gonna be a pain, if every hour for survival is 10-15 minutes it’ll easily be the longest map, so I for one can’t wait to spend ages on this map and lose last second
There is some inconsistency between the English and French dialogue. For instance, when one character spoke in French, it was translated into English, but when the diplomat spoke in French, it wasn't translated. Anyways, I love this new map! It’s like a Frankenstein🧟♂️ of all the maps I adore. As for the new features, I really hope the next map focuses on the Swedish🇸🇪 because they’re being neglected right now. I know they revamped them and all, but it’s still not enough! As for items, I hope they add a new hammer for sappers⚒️ and more instruments📯 for musicians. I know I’m setting my expectations a bit too high, but I believe they can do it. I’m not even asking for it to be added right away-it can come in the future, you know? Anyways, that was my rant.
