John would be this gentle with her, this is in character Master Chief is one of the most complex and nuanced protagonists in game history, and I feel like he's not vastly misunderstood, but there are players who don't pay attention to his arc well enough.
You get that a lot with some video game characters, a lot of people would say Doomguy or Dante would kill Octavia, but they're forgetting the most critical thing about what gives them so much depth...they're still Human.

God, my heart quieted down as soon as Never Forget came on. The music has so much weight, so much power... and this time it is underscored by the sudden appearance of Master Chief cheering up a emotionally distraught teenager.
The thing is, is that I can totally see that, while Doom Slayer would spend his time picking a fight with Alastor or the Vees, MC would instead try to help out Octavia, Angle Dust, Vaggie, etc with their issues.
The most difficult thing for me is when I can't relate to someone that has this happening to them all I have is to offer them my love and appreciation for them. I can't imagine that pain and situation but in the long run whether you have love from your parents or not we go the same road by moving forward. I had a co worker who is a mechanic that help me with my car reveal to me his dad died when he was young. It broke my heart knowing this man didn't experience a father in his life but I did but he managed without him and turned out alright and I'm barely surviving but improving my life overtime.
Sometimes all you can do is just agree that what they're going through is rough, don't pretend to understand if you don't and just listen to them, and be empathetic. A solution's nice; but to be heard is good too.
