    Worked 30 years in auto supplier plants. One thing to consider. Supplier plants are set up for bulk shipments to the next plant down the line normally using reusable containers. I seriously doubt if motors are shipped to the assembly plant 1 motor to a container. Somebody somewhere is making a lot of boxes suitable for shipping crate motors to dealers. That's just the first step.

    • @Jason-Samko

    • @Fireballsocal

      The crate motors would be sent to a PDC or part’s distribution center and from there, shipped to individual dealers on an as needed basis. This process is part of the auto business and is often implemented. They would be packaged in either returnable or, in the case of most engines, in wooden or cardboard packaging.

    I believe Toyota will have a proper fix,it’s their reputation on the line. This recall is a big deal to get it right,and have a proper fix. Toyota always seem to be tight lipped,right or wrong,but with this recall they better have it figured out,and don’t screw it up,this one is a huge deal! I’m assuming they are slow in giving out details because they want to make sure this time that the engine problem is without a doubt rectified. It would really suck to have a truck sitting in the lane way that you can’t use because of a defective engine,I would be pissed too!

    If the short block part number changed in January, 2024 and the main bearing part number was superseded in April, 2024, wouldn’t that suggest that every Tundra V6 TT engine produced prior to 2024 could be defective?

  • @HiPlains1
    @HiPlains1 2 месяца назад +2

    Depending on how many trucks are affected it might be impossible to go the short block route to complete the work in a reasonable amount of time (think lemon law here). If a dealer has 8 trucks to repair your talking a few months minimum just to repair those. I personally would not be cool with a dealer tech taking apart the entire front end/engine with my truck parts laying all over the shop floor. I'm already hearing of trucks receiving allot of damage with this.
    Toyota's excuse saying "debris" in the motor is a hard sell for me. I'm thinking its a design issue that may have already been addressed. But the mighty Yota will do everything in their power to suppress that from coming out because it would show they failed in properly testing this engine. These new TNGA trucks are a step down from their legacy products IMO.

    Toyota just updated their recall notice and advised that new engines will be installed in support of the recall. Although this is a GREAT plan, it is still a cluster. First, what about the early failures that received a short block? Do they get a new engine? Second, what about current failures that are waiting on parts? Do they get a new short block or a complete engine? Third, why is the recall limited to 22 & 23 when the part numbers for the short block changed in January, 2024 and the main bearing part number was superseded in April, 2024? Fourth: Why aren’t Hybrids included (I agree about motive power but it is the same engine. Right?). In my opinion, Toyota needs to come clean and provide details and specifics in order to have any hope of putting this behind them.

They actually REMOVED the tranny cooler in the ‘19-21 years, but left it on the window sticker on the ‘19-20 models. Now claim a puck designed to warm the atf at startup also serves as a tranny cooler. LMFAO. It cost me $2k to buy the kit and have the dealer install a real tranny cooler. Great question! And the biggest battle tundra owners face right now. The short block is just a bare bottom end of the engine. Means the whole motor had to be disassembled and then be put back together. A huge task in an un controlled environment. And of the ones this has been done to some are failing again shortly after. 1 poor guy had it blow up 3 times!
      A long block or crate motor is the whole engine assembly complete and ready to be dropped in and hooked up straight from the factory.

    I just sold my tundra for a GMC and man, that truck is amazing. Toyota, just like anything else it fell off and in a time where things are expensiv, people want reliability for what they're paying. Toyota was never the flashy or big feature company and it keps the cars affordable and basic. They dont have that anymore and their "dealers" are all pretty shady too. Its like a double edge sword at this point. Both customer service and its brand are just going down the gutter. The overflow everywhere else is forcing other brands to beat Toyota. My GMC with everything on it with MSRP was 67k with a lot more features than my tundra, oh and for them to compete they sold it to me for 51k fully loaded. Installing new long blocks that have newly designed and durable bottom ends is the ONLY solution that will satisfy existing and future V35 owners. However, I fear Toyota may cut corners and not replace all '22-23 long blocks, but instead will offer the 98% of owners who havn't experienced engine failure yet a 8 year / 150,000 mile warranty. What's horrible about that? Well a ton of those engines are going to experience crankshaft bearing failures at between 150,000 - 250,000 miles so their owners will have to pay $20,000+ out of pocket for a new engine or else junk their whole trucks. 150,000 - 250,000 miles is a poor life for a Toyota motor because normally well maintained Toyota engines will last 500,000-1,000,000 miles.
