Couldn’t agree more, man. I’ve planted a little over a dozen persimmons last fall and this spring. Mostly Asian varieties, and hybrids (Rosseyanka and Nikita’s Gift), but also some American cultivars. I have heavy producers in the orchard to provide fresh fruit well into winter for my poultry, and then the Asian ones for my farmers market customers. I’m constantly amazed by people who have no idea you can eat persimmons! They are missing out. I’ve also got 4 seedlings and I can’t find the mother tree, but I’m letting all of them grow to see how they do. How far apart are those aisles between trees, and are you concerned that the asparagus will be shaded out as the persimmons grow?

Hey Erik, I was wondering if you had any cultivar persimmons growing in NY, and if so, how that working out? Do you know where your seed grown trees originated from? I would be interested to see if there were any problems ripening a little further north, since I'm planning on planting out a bunch.

Do you know how to determine if a Persimmon tree is male or female before they flower ?

Do you get frost damage on young trees? Im in zone 7 and my persimmons all have about a foot of frost damage from the tips.

These are all Diospyros americana not D. kaki. We can’t grow kaki here but I do have “Rosseyanka” which is a hybrid and she has survived winter with zero dieback. None of the American persimmons have any dieback.

Do you plan in selling them as fresh fruit or as a processed product?

Both! They sell well at farmers markets but when I have too much we process :)

@@kamaartaliaferro6238 I haven't made it - they sort of turn into jam by themselves though so I would imagine it'll be easy!
