The part with the different tune and "my chains fell off" and "unending love" was written more recently especially for a film about the life of John Newton, and has deservedly become popular.

The song was written by John Newton back in the 1770's. He has quite a story which I won't go into here. He teamed up with a fellow by the name of Wiiliam Wilberforce to have a very prominent role in abolishing the slave trade at that time. The story is very touching and this song was penned around that time. Gabriel does an incredible job of bringing the passion and soul of that song as only he can. Great reaction!!!
