godowsky's music is definitely worth looking into, especially his reworkings of the chopin etudes. his original pieces are also great and worth looming into. the java suite is a set of pieces inspired by indonesian melodies and is also worth looking into.
both are great sets that send chills down my spine. the sonata and passacaglia are two massive pieces that hamelin clearly owns. you can find performances of some chopin-godowsky etudes around youtube somewhere.
Im thinking of getting the Chopin Etudes (played by Hamelin) and the Piano sonata (also played by Hamelin) because that is what wikipedia says I should do.
@VIDE0DR0ME I just caught this comment. It is the bizarre world we live in. Everybody has an opinion and it is supposed to be of biblical stability.... ;-) Thanks for mentioning Hough
i have this set. the playing is great. but hamelin seems to have more of a godowsky-type touch to his playing. he also seems to have a more intimate touch, if you know what i mean.

beautiful, atmospheric, - reminds me of scriabin, like taking the 2nd sonata and making mixing more with the middle period style
Past goed bij het boek van Jan Brokken, De tuinen van Buitenzorg
Brokken vermeldt de suite op pag.47 van zijn boek, waarin hij de sfeer terugroept die dit pianospel vertolkt
I'm convinced this is the inspiration for "Over the Rainbow"
C'est du très beau piano que nous fait découvrir MA.Hamelin
i wish hamelin records the whole java suite..
godowsky wanted to emulate the javanese music on the piano when he wrote his java suite, which is what "the gardens of buitenzorg" is from.
Wonderful voicings!

Truly sensational. And I thought I knew it all. Novel, amazing. A minor epiphany
Never heard of this piece, but it's really nice. I might have to buy myself a Godowsky CD one of these days.

A magic.
