  • They say go big or go home... I say go big at home! Over the past 3 weeks I have been 3D printing and assembling the largest model I have done to date, the 26 inch wide Fafnir The Corruption Incarnate from Loot Studios.
    This video is all about that process, and the hiccups along the way.
    The smaller dragon video is here: • Here be dragons! Maki...

    ...wow... That is *BIG* . All this Dragon market seems to be cyclic. The first nice product I found with Dragons was from a company named Enchantica back at the mid 90's with very high quality details made in resin. Beautifully painted... Then... As an "I want to try" kind of person. Sone years later I started 2 figures with riders. My main problem was the wings as the material I use couldn't work well on large sheets... But anyway. Maybe I will dare to take them again and finish
    Congratulations Dave!! That is massively beautiful!

    Oh wow! Thats a giant of a Dragon!! I love how you made the video too, Dave - that intro sequence was killer! I gotta admit, although I make videos for a living I think you've inspired me to at least doccument a build of my own!

      Thanks! I really enjoy editing videos. I think in a different lifetime video creation of some kind would be my career path.

    For large non cosmetic gaps bondic is excellent and relatively cheap. Love this project! good work.

    Epic build! Use your resin and baby powder to fill the gaps. Cure with UV flashlight. Works great!

    For the crack spackle, use liquid resin and baby powder as a mix for filler, then cure it with a UV light. It works amazingly! Just remember to use light coats and smooth it out as you go. It should hide all the joint lines 100%.

      You will likely be surprised at how much baby powder you will need to add to turn it into a paste, but honestly it works amazingly.
      Also, if you are looking for more big dragons, check out Bahamut and Tiamat from Lord of the Print (the STLs come for both and 5 others for under $10.00 usd). Great sculpts worthy of camera work!@@StudioDave

    Beautiful. FYI, Green Stuff is commonly used to gap fill, or even sculpt new bits, when assembling commercially produced miniatures.

      I'll check that out too. I got lots of suggestions for gap fillers on this video. I love it when communities share tips :). Thanks!

      Use the Syria tech resin and a UV flashlight. In thin layers, lightly sanded, comes out amazing. Strong and you can even shape it a little especially on wings. If the gap is really wide I use Apoxie sculpt first, then cover with resin. Great build!

    You can use some milliput, it smooths with water and goes hard like resin .
    You can also use the resin , and then shine iv light over the seam to harden it .. then lightly sand . Hope that helps ..

    I hope it's not too late and you've thrown out your old printer, that dim spot on your LCD isn't the LCD failing. It's the LED array. If you have a bit of electrical know-how it'd be exceptionally cheap to replace, otherwise you can get LED arrays a lot cheaper than the LCD screens.

    Just thought I would give my 2 cents on the filler that I use. I put the same resin I used to print in a needle bottle, I squirt the resin into the gap and then immediately shine the handheld uv light on it to cure. It works perfectly and most of the time you cannot event tell there was a seem. if you mess up you wipe off the resin and try again only shining the uv light when everything is perfect. it hardens instantly.

    Epic Dragon build!!! Thanks very much for sharing your process! I’m getting ready to do this same dragon soon myself. Do have any idea how much resin the whole build required?

    • @StudioDave

      Thanks for watching, and you are welcome!
      I don't really have a good read on how much resin it took for me to print this. Because I had that 3D printer issue I ended up using up a lot of resin trying to figure out whats going wrong. I believe I used up 4 1KG bottles of resin in total, but I suspect if everything went smoothly it would be closer to 2 bottles.

    Love your video and dragon project. For the wings try Tamiya ( plastic models and accessories company) has a great product to fill in gaps and holes. If this helps. :)

    That's a massively magnificent dragon!
    Just out of curiosity is there a particular reason why you wouldn't want to use green stuff or Aves to fill those cracks in?
    With the size of those wings I would be really tempted to magnetized them so you can take them off if you need to.

    • @StudioDave
      @StudioDave  Год назад

      Only reason why I didn't use something like greenstuff was that I didn't know about it at the time :). Thanks!

    Do they not have Milliput in Canada?

    • @StudioDave
      @StudioDave  3 месяца назад +1

      You'd think so, but you can only get it in centiputs. Most either cut it down to milliputs, or get the pack of 100 for a full put. (Metric joke for you)

    Hi Dave, very informative & great prints! I wanted to dive into 3d Resin printing, been printing via FDM for quite some time now, I just want to know how long does the LCD on your Saturn lasts in terms of number of prints and approximately in hours.
    I would like to consider all the expenses before jumping into the dark hole. TIA

    • @StudioDave
      @StudioDave  Год назад +1

      Thanks! I am not really a good resource for how long the LCD screen lasts. I've only had one LCD failure, and that was a warranty issue and the LCD was replaced for free by Elegoo.
      Until that failure I printed on it pretty regularly for about 8 months, much of it rather large prints that filled the build volume, and took 10+ hours. Not sure how useful that information is for you, but its what I got :)

    Hello❣️ Newbie here. I thought my black dragon was big cause of the huge size option I bought fer. Is that even measurable in scale?

      Welcome! I am pretty sure this dragon was listed as 75mm scale. It's a big beast!
