  • The veil of ignorance refers to the metaphorical barrier that obscures our true understanding of reality. When this veil envelops us, our perception is clouded by misconceptions, biases, and limited knowledge. We see the world through a distorted lens, influenced by societal norms, personal prejudices, and unexamined beliefs. This ignorance prevents us from recognizing deeper truths and understanding the interconnectedness of all things. It confines us to a narrow view, hindering personal growth and the pursuit of wisdom. To lift this veil, we must cultivate self-awareness, question our assumptions, and seek knowledge beyond our immediate experiences. Engaging in introspection, embracing diverse perspectives, and practicing empathy can help us see past the illusions that cloud our judgment. By doing so, we can gain a clearer, more enlightened perception of reality, allowing us to live more authentically and harmoniously with the world around us.

In other words critical thinking is not only important it is a necessity! People have forgotten how to use critical thinking. It used to be taught in schools but it isn't being taught to our young people any longer.
I'm 70 years old and I was really lucky to have parents that taught me to question everything, even them! Therefore I grew up as a very aware person. It is a very lonely place to be but at least I have an idea of what's going on.
Not only was I taught critical thinking as a child I was also taught to be responsible for my thoughts deeds and actions, from a very young age. I give thanks everyday that I had the parents I did.

It is amusing how we imagine we are critical thinkers because we have mastered the art of deceiving ourselves.
If I told you I am exempt from the abovementioned trap, you would laugh, so you should.
