I am 70 years old and just started getting around on a 80 cc Honda Elite scooter. I cannot believe it took me so long to discover this great way to travel. I drive almost everyday and pay $2 a week in gas. The only downside is snow and rain. I never feel so alive and happy as when I'm riding.
only $2 :o how much you drive at week? as I must pay gas 5 € a week. I go every weekday 60 km schooltravels. but sorry about grammar so I'm finnish. :D
I stated driving a scooter 110cc..I'm 46 and starting driving a scooter 2 years ago..I love it..and I always say to myself ..should of done this years ago..well ,its never too late..maintenance,insurance and gas ..real cheap a big plus...I get everywhere fast..I don't like driving the car..I feel like a turtle
I was 41 years old when i bought my first scooter. I had the exact feeling of "I never feel so alive and happy as when I'm riding." Now i am 54... still have that feeling!
Here in Athens, Greece if you don't ride you don't dare go down town unless you've packed a lunch, a couple bottles of water, and a few hours of your favorite music. Parking??? That's not a Greek word so don't look for any. :D
A scooter was the best investment I’ve ever made. $3 a gallon on gas which is around 90mpg and $37 in monthly insurance. You don’t have to pay for meter parking in NY with a scooter and cutting through traffic is a breeze. Best part about it it’s extremely fun and addictive to ride. Scooter for life.
I drive my scooter to work as often as possible. My 20 mile commute takes roughly the same time, but the gas savings is incredible. The only caveat to my rides is that I'm in Michigan and it's now October. I was caught in a hailstorm yesterday ...
Awesome video! He makes a great point and does a great job keeping you entertained. Of course you have to love how unphased he is when he goes into the strip club to do his dancing for the ladies. That just kills me. (:
thank you for your email....Next year I am going to work in Wellington City CBD...Now I have decided to buy a cheap Scooter... your video is very inspiring.
I ride a 400cc scooter because it's all 55 mph and up on my commute. But I love the storage and the ease of use. Step through, turn key, hit start button and I'm off. And it goes over 90 mph...but we won't discuss that lol
I've thought about this quite often over the years. I don't often get caught in a lot of traffic though, and generally take the freeway through half or more of my trip, which I don't believe most scooters are legal on. Also heard they aren't generally ideal for the kind of commutes he just took, although I was really surprised by the time saved? If I could find an alternative route that wouldn't seemingly cost me as much time, I'd probably do it though.
Love my Vespa GTV 300 although we don't have the ability to lane split in Canada and there are no scooter specific lanes. The cost savings comes from running the smaller engine but there's no advantage in time savings here.
I've been riding my scooter and thank God I'm still alive. You know, it depends on your riding skills and road discipline. I'm glad I've been first to asafety riding skills seminar and training before riding a scooter.
Excellent video story , good comparison .You could also compare exhaust emissions , eg engine size & time running to achieve the end goal . But something many people do daily . Multiply that by the number of daily driver tasks over a year & we can begin to make a difference . Wacko I reckon Scooter Booting is the way to go !
Great episode! Lots of great points. Any chance you'll do a Scooters Vs. Motorcycle based on gas millage, insurance, maintenance, parking and ease of use?
for short rides within the city and a wee bit outskirts scooter is just fine. however you got to think twice to ride it in hot temperatures, rain, snow, hail. one can have an electric car for that maybe. ideally if one has the means and the space a bicycle, a scooter, a car could be kept and alternatively used with smart public transport systems. but yes scooters save you time, money, and the insanity of traffic snarl ups. good video mate!
In the states if you zip through traffic on a scooter or motorcycle your ass is getting a huge ticket. Most cities have laws against doing what you did...
Except Cali, and that's why we're the only country in the world with that stupid law. It's just more efficient in every way to have lane splitting be legal.
The United States is a car culture. The priority goes to cars. Most people use them, and other modes of transportation don't get the respect like cars. America also does not pay high gas prices like in Great Britain for example so the low gas mileage of a car does not hurt as much. The bottom line is America is all about cars.
The reason why I'm going for a scooter is - that I've been forced to buy one. I live in Zurich, till now I've been ok just with a bicycle. But.. people are such a jerk offs with a cars that I don't feel safe riding a bicycle anymore, that's why I'm going for a 125 cc scooter now. It's pity I'll be burning a gas now instead of peddaling, but what can u do.. people have zero respect for a cyclist..
] I like my bicycle alot & car] but the crazy Traffic in USA] sometime when I want to get somewhere in a hurry= I cant pedal that fast anymore, therefore I'm thinking of a scooter, they seem like they'll be safer &cheaper than a motorcycle] I take tours on my bike &carry heavy loads] I think I might look more strange w/ heavy loads on scooter lol]
While I agree with the scooter over the motorcycle, the safety factor isn't any different one from the other. You'll want to get some good, professional training & gear up. Check with your local DMV to see if/when/where they have classes or who they suggest. You may, also, want to look into joining an scooter enthusiasts forum. You can get some local advice on who to buy from, mechanics, etc. There's no sense in going into this blind when there's so much help out there to make your ride safe & fun. If Mr. Sterling is monitoring this and give me permission I'll give you a link to one of the forums I like.
Expat47 cheer bro, your response is much appreciated. not safe eitger - but at least you're moving with the traffic.. and till now - I got cut off only like 4 times over 16 months period.. and on the bicycle it was every day.. have a good one!
It's been decades since I've ridden a motorcycle. I'm now 72 years of age and I am THRILLED (doesn't take much at my age) with my three-day-old acquisition of the fastest stock 50cc motor scooter - the "Genuine Buddy 50". I bought it in Florida, which allows the dealers to "derestrict" the speed of the bike the way it comes from the factory (Taiwan, the motor scooter capital of the world, not to be confused with freakin' China), and what that means is that the dealers can remove the speed governors from the scooter. The "Genuine" company is a USA company, in Chicago. Whoopee! I bought the scooter just for local rides, and after breaking it in, expect to be able to reach 50 mph. I can do 40 with no problem so far, but that's not full throttle. Full throttle comes in after the break in period. It requires "premium" gas - well, for a 1.6 gallon capacity tank, I won't go broke, especially since I expect to get as little as 80 mpg, perhaps up to 100 mpg. In the meantime, I'm having a blast! Loved your vid - liked and subbed. Many thanks!
I own an electric super soco ts and it costs me 50 cents a week for "fuel" I love it bcus Its not only good for the environment It is a big money saver too! and alot of fun to drive! :D greetz from Holland!
Al GESBREK yeah other poster is right 400cc would make no since just get a motor cycle or sports bike . because the milage would be the same at 400cc's the scooter he is using looks like a 50cc and 50cc scooters get from 100mpg - 200 mpg depending on what you get and upgrades drop milage a little not much but a little but like anything you lose extensive mpg the bigger you go on engine. so 400cc would basically be 600cc motorcycle or a 600cc sports bike in gas milage. not to count motor cycles and sports bikes have the ability to using a clutch and gear box to go faster then a variator can go.
RasputinReview yes i have one my self among other things it's my fav transportation. the gas mileage love it. i get 115mpg but i upgraded mine to 70cc. stock it use to get 123mpg when it was 50cc. but the upgrade was well worth it. tops out at 55mph now. 182 miles on my premium gas only pay 3$ aeach time i fill up $2.25 - $2.66 for premium were i live. a full fill up lasts 2 weeks before i gotta fill it up again 6-9 dollars a month in gas i laugh at these big trucks dumping 100s and 100s of dollars in there tanks haha.
It depends on where you're located, and how the local laws define a "moped" In many states in the U.S., if it has 50cc or less and/or it goes no faster than 30 mph then they deem it a "moped" and as such is subject to the same laws as a bicycle. The scooter in this video would be classified as a moped.
Excellent work, but for a complete victory over the car can I suggest you add afterburners with flame-throwing capability and a death ray xenon head light?
i did this but bought a bike instead because my commute is mostly freeway and a scooter just doesn't have the power it went from an hour each way to about 30mins with traffic and 15 without... that is crazy plus i went from spending $100 a week on petrol to about $5 on friday i filled it up with $17 and today 6 days later it still has 3/4 of the tank full..
its true that owning a scooter and using that to get to work would save big time on gas costs but the time differences only depend on if you live in a area that is legal to lane split
My scooter is an all electric 5000w model. Now 14,000km and no servicing price or petrol. The service manual simply tells you to tighten a bolt or check this nut or check the brake pads. I bought it from a company in Melbourne and love it. Just plug it in every night, that's it. It's used nearly $42 in electricity bills in a year and a bit. I have a power meter on the scooters power point.
sadly where I live you still sit in traffic there is no special passing or lanes for scooters and bikes so the time is around the same. It does save a lot in gas though. It coast 60 bucks to fill the tank of a car and it needs refilling every other week of going back and fourth to work. around ten dollars fills the tank of a bike or scooter and last pretty much though out the month.
I may ride a 500cc motorcycle, but I agree - 2 wheeled transportation is faster, cheaper and in my opinion - way more fun! Doesn't matter what you ride, as long as you're having fun doing it!
In my country, most of companies have a private parking (underground most of time). And when I said 4L/100km, I was talking about a scooter that I you can actually use even if you work downtown but don't live there, so a 250cc or something. I made the math and in my case, I wouldn't save any money as long as I keep the car. Plus, in my country, it rains 200 days a year, so it would not be convenient most of the time.
The thing is, at least here in the Netherlands, motorists begin getting aggressive when they just only see a scooter around them. Mostly because the 16 year old kids drive like crazy on them. In a result that the motorists are going to do everything to pass you in the most dangerous ways, or stick one meter behind you which is very dangerous on a two wheeler. This is why i stick to my 4.6L 208HP V8 Ford Thunderbird and push all those people of the road and help making traffic jams.
I think the point here is the scooter pretty much pays for itself twice over in one years time. The downside? Youre pretty much fucked on rainy or snowy days. Still, the time and gas savings are enough to justify riding it at least in the spring and summer.
6 miles to work in car 45 minutes in Miami's crazy traffic. 20 minutes in a scooter BUT, riding in the shoulder of road or in between cars, is a NO NO & a ticket you will get. Take your chances & smile @ those in gridlock traffic.

Come to Florida and you can ride with me without that four letter word,
's-n-o-w'.
I was 41 years old when i bought my first scooter.
I had the exact feeling of "I never feel so alive and happy as when I'm riding."
Now i am 54... still have that feeling!
The problem...you get used to the speedy time for the scoot but take the car on rainy days and go absolutely NUTS...like you are in slow motion.
Exactly!!! LOL!!!
"most people know how to use a car" FALSE!
This is one of the most entertaining and informational videos about "scooters" I have ever seen. Love it !!!
This was actually pretty enjoyable to watch :')

You just did! - LOL
James Niece dam what’s it like to go that fast on a scooter ?
gotta be honest and amazing video, very funny and usful.
nicely done!
Good video bro!!
Scooter pays for itself in less than 6 months ...
proves the point, two wheels are better than 4...in cramped city conditions
I need a hypothetical job at the Greasy Pole... LMAO!! ;)
this was nice!
i only enjoyed watching the scooter bit!!
I'm on the verge of going from a car to a scooter. had enough of sitting in traffic
I've thought about this quite often over the years. In Geneva it's supposedly illegal and everybody does it. Including me for 7 efficient years.

Absolutely right.
Wish we could park our scooters on the sidewalk in NY, (not that we really couldn't, but it's a bit risky to pull plate nowadays)...
when is the next episode?
How are the 150cc tao tao scooters?
In California, we are allowed to split lanes.
lol youve had 1 episode in 3 years
intro music?
ROFL guy is wearing gear like he's riding a sports bike
@33LinesToWalk I kept thinking that!
Yes, the sunny Australia. Come to the northern Europe and get soaked to the bones almost everyday, you'll enjoy the scooter!
@Engineer9736 a bicycle became a faster means of transport...then any car on the road so yea 2 wheels are the best when the weather is ok..
@DoPe993 500bhp turbo charged suzuki hayabusa does also the y2k i think does
I'd invest 2 weeks of car camping in order to achieve teleportation commute for the rest of the year
He looks like christian bale from certain angles. But needs to add 20kg to get to his size.
BTW, was that a BMW 330i?
In my country, most of companies have a private parking (underground most of time).
And when I said 4L/100km, I was talking about a scooter that I you can actually use even if you work downtown but don't live there, so a 250cc or something.
I made the math and in my case, I wouldn't save any money as long as I keep the car.
Plus, in my country, it rains 200 days a year, so it would not be convenient most of the time.

David River look up KevSoLitty he makes scooter vlogs
I know my tipown so well, I stay off those gridlocking streets!
Like the cream colored and red
how fast can a 60cc scooter go?
Ya in the US, Scooters are not allowed to drive around other cars, you will get pulled over by the police.
eu tenho uma u corre e doido com ela 👏👏👏👏
you play in that movie ....with bank robbers...
