    Great video, Steve!
    BeoLab 1 are my absolute favourite speakers, I have a pair of BeoLab 5s as well but I would choose the BeoLab 1s every time for music. They are by far the most “Hi-Fi” speaker B&O have ever made, in my opinion. Some people call them clinical, but I would describe them instead as accurate and precise, which is exactly why I love them.
    They are very sensitive to their placement and room acoustics, I can’t count how many hours I’ve spent tweaking their positions, angles and calibration settings, but it was well worth it!
    I’ve recently changed my music setup and I now have mine running through a Primare DAC and an Anthem preamp (with room correction), which has brought a whole new dimension to their already great sound. I highly recommend pairing them with high quality source equipment and content, the clarity and stereo imaging is absolutely amazing, it’s like the instruments and vocalists are right there in the room!
    My only gripe is the lack of schematics available for repairing the boards, I guess it’s because of the “secret sauce” contained in the ICEpower bass amps. I’ve managed to repair a couple of them in the past, but I still have a couple of boards with weird faults, which is annoying!

    Thank-you Steve for another fantastic video. I still remember seeing the Beolab 1 when it launched, in the window of my local B&O dealer Chew & Osborne in Saffron Waldon. My jaw dropped at the sheer immensity of them, I already had Pentas, but these were something even grander and unworldly at the time. I resolved there and then that they were a “must have” item. Duly scrimped and saved and delighted to say I still have them today, linked to a 7000 black and silver stack and a beovision 10. They are still awesome, and though they are rarely referred to these days, I think they sit in that special pantheon of Bang and Olufsen iconic masterpieces. Thank you again for bringing these forward to your growing group of followers. My best wishes Steve Alexander.

    I still love Beolab 1's so much, I know the clinical sound isn't for everyone but I adore them. I think you don't really need to mess with the potentiometers unless you have them as a solo pair and no sub. Then only one could up the bass a little imho, but out of the box they are pretty much perfect. Great video once again!

      Thanks! I do like the Beolab 1, I reckon you are right - if you like the sound then leave the settings alone, but if they are a bit too clinical for your liking then a little bit of tweaking can help!

    Hi Steve - nice video with heaps of useful tips! I just purchased a pair in Australia in a teal green colour very nice looking and I have to say I wasn’t ready for their imposing stature. These things are way bigger than they look in videos and pictures. I can’t fully comment on their sound as I’m in an apartment and have to play them at low volumes. But very revealing and can’t wait to move again and let them sing. I’m running them from my Pre outs of my HiFi Rose RS520 intergrated streaming amp. Another one of your previous tips on cable connections. Keep up the reviews. One question where can I find any reviews on these as info on the web is scares.
    Cheers Nathan

      Hi, each speaker is individually calibrated at the factory to give the same standard sound profile. This means that the settings on every speaker will be different, so it doesn't matter what settings your speakers are at - only that you carefully record the original settings for reference before making any changes

    hi Steve
    you are great in revealing the most beautiful secrets of the B&O world
    2 questions:
    I use Beolab 1 with the SUB Beolab 2 - I think it is not necessary to intensify the bass with this setup, right?
    Question 2:
    Sometimes when I turn off the system, I hear a Beolab make a sound like "a stuffy rattle" and the green light stays on, even though I have turned off the system.
    Other times it keeps turning on and off by itself for a few times.
    What does it mean in your opinion?
    some cables may be shorted?
    or the motherboard is breaking?
    thanks Simone

    • @soundsheavenly
      @soundsheavenly  2 года назад +2

      Hi Simone, I agree that you don't need to boost the bass of the Beolab 1 if you have a subwoofer connected. This issue sounds like a fault in the system somewhere, I apologise that I don't know about repairs but I suggest asking your local B&O store if they can recommend a repairer in your area.

On page 8 of the Beolab 1 User Guide it states that the ‘FLOORSTANDING’ setting is neutral (which means that the bass is neither boosted nor reduced). Then it states that the ‘AGAINST WALL’ setting applies filtering which slightly reduces the bass. However in your video you said the complete opposite of this. Basically you explained that ‘FLOORSTANDING’ boosts bass by 3db, and that the ‘AGAINST WALL’ setting is neutral which neither boosts nor reduces bass. Please could you clarify.

    Can I also ask for advice about removing the top cover of the speakers... I cannot, for the life of me remove my own. I press until my fingers become dimpled by pressing too hard - and yet the things still won't come off!

      @soundsheavenly  2 года назад +2

      Thank! My camera tripod is quite low, which makes me look taller than I really am when I'm standing in front of the speakers! They are actually taller than me... If you reach up to the top of the speaker with your right hand, the small clip should be just where your little finger rests inside the right corner of the alcove at the top of the grille. It is a small button that needs to be pressed right in before the grille can be lifted upwards.

    • @scj00380
      @scj00380 2 года назад +1

      Hi Steve. Thank you for your reply. Although I can put my fingers (just) into the top slot and actually feel something of the small clip which you mention, there's no way that I can get in far enough to press the clip down. It's typical B&O design I fear: one can see the part in question, but is designed so poorly as to actually use it. I think that perhaps if I use something (like an inverted pencil with a rubber tip), I may be able to possibly get inside the slot with it to press the clip down.@@soundsheavenly
