The commentary is the worst I've ever heard. Doesn't know the name of the shots (not every offensive shot is a "smash") and Waldner's name is pronounced Yan, not John.

@@olaniyi570The worst commentary is Bobrow-the king of cringe- screaming like a little girl and coming up with some ridiculous nicknames.
They often had some great co-comentators like former World Champion and coach Stellan Bengston as opposed to a basement player who obsesses over chop blocks and trickshots.

Yeah, it was back then and still is very, very unorthodox to see such legal serves with a straight upward toss and no hiding. 😉

And nobody stretches along the table's edge before the serve, which seems to have become a standard in the modern game, I still don't know why. Back in 90s, I had an opportunity to be an umpire at national events.

Two years later Waldner defeated Samsonov in straight games, 3-0, at the world championships, at the age of 32. Waldner played much more aggressively, third ball attacks, and attacking Samsonov's serve.
Samsonov was overwhelmed. You only beat Waldner once, then he seeks revenge.

Seems like people's opinion is mostly shaped by the algorithm of RUclips these days and stats taken out of context.Their Olympic match has only 4000 views.Supposedly, the Swedish Open is 30 times more important that the 2000 Olympics.
For the matter Waldner won every single big match between them from 95 till 2000 Olympics (if we suppose the 1996 and the 1998 World Cup was significant for Waldner).
