I've never seen someone actually use black watercolor paper before. It looks really fun and cool. The painting turned out really pretty too, my little crow brain likes all the shiny bits. ✨️
I think this is my favourite of your videos so far - product demo/comparison ✔, talking through your process ✔, painting ✔ I appreciate the honest and independent review of the Beam paints... and also how good you are at articulating (and demonstrating) why you were disappointed with them. I see lots of 'reviews' of products from artists on RUclips that often amount to someone just swatching a colour and saying how lovely it is, without any further explanation, or worse, are just an unpaid ad where the supplier has sent a free product to the artist in exchange for a video. A downside of that black watercolour paper is that tape tears the paper when you pull it off (it even happens if you use Magic Tape)😬
Wow, i really appreciate such an in depth comment! As for the tape tearing the paper, the tape always ALWAYS tears my paper, no matter what brand of paper, or tape i use, so i just gave up and now i peel away from the painting
Thanks for saving me some $. Was thinking about trying these but i think ill pass. Incompetence at best and an outright scam at worst. I hope you got a refund.
@@alexscott7819 i don't get the impression you know what opaque means, or that you watched the video particularly carefully. So i don't think this exchange will go anywhere. Have a nice day
@@madden.r.grimes I know what it means. But I'm saying the reason gouache is usually done on white paper by all professionals who use it in a presentable medium (film and the likes) is because white "backlights" the colours in a way that black doesn't. You're more likely to think a gouache colour looks "thin" over black because of that lack of backlighting; white looks good behind thin paint and makes up for it, black doesn't.
@@alexscott7819 i mean, they literally compared the paints to other gouache that they own on that same black paper and the difference is night and day. even when these paints were swatched on the white paper they didnt look like gouache. seems to me like its just a poor quality paint
thank you for the review! i’m especially susceptible to pretty packaging and good marketing, these are so beautiful and aesthetically pleasing that i probably would have bought them had i not seen this first 🥲

Its definitely interesting to work on
Four minutes in, and you are brutal😂
I appreciate your honesty though.
I try
I've never thought of depicting dark ocean water like that! what a good idea
if you blow dry the tape before peeling it, it dosen't rip the paper
I really need to stop procrastinating buying one of those

@@madden.r.grimes I've found Scotch Magic Tape and Bauhong 100% cotton watercolour paper to be the perfect non-tearing combo.
Excellent review thank you. I do like their watercolours but will not try their gouache

The result of your review is kinda on you. It was a mistake to try it on dark paper to begin with.
Buddy its called gouache, gouache is supposed to be opaque
@@madden.r.grimes Yes, that's exactly my point...
