The Panasonic Toughbook 55 is an exception and is new but you are paying through the nose for that one. It's a modular laptop like out of an old sci-fi movie. If they made that a $1,500 laptop I think they'd get more traction with consumers who are kind of tech-savvy and who like to do basic upgrades to their computers, but maybe don't like completely taking apart the whole thing.

My daily driver is a T60 with no Lenovo markings in it, just IBM. I've had it for....I don't know, more than 10 years, and I use it at least 8 hours a day. Most days more. Couple of years ago, I think it was when win7 lost support, I bought a new battery, and ssd for it, and switched it over to Zorin OS. That was the last time I opened it for anything. I'm watching this video, and typing this on it. It's gotten a lot of wear through the years, and is starting to look like something the cat dragged in, but I love it, and will use it until the end. Only problem is, I think my end will come before the laptop's end.
I just got one of these last month and I love it. Came with a single core x86 processor and I did my first ever cpu upgrade to give it a t7400 core 2 duo. I bought a battery for it, slapped a linux distro on there, and it's quickly becoming my favorite computer. On the other hand, it has led me to buy loads of ancient thinkpads since then so I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it lol. Thinkpad addiction is a real problem, and it's definitely a problem I currently face haha.

Thinkpad T60, perhaps the last machine with IBM logo. Aspect ratio of 4:3 truly look beautiful not forgetting the Classic Thinkpad keyboard layout. I have an even older R51 and I love it. I need to get the battery replaced and maybe max out the ram but with Antix linux running on it I have yet to run into any problems. I was looking at a T43p because they had workstation level video cards which would be helpful for photo and video work. One thing that I find amusing and a bit sad is the R51 has a better display 14 years later then my much newer Lenovo Thinkpad E545. Both the R and E series were marketed as budget and small business lines. The difference in quality speaks volumes. My Lenovo E545 is a better made mid range consumer laptop whereas the R series was a proper work machine. I actually which Lenovo would release an updated R series with AMD APUs like they use in the Edge series. And I really wish they would bring back the proper IBM keyboard. That was one of their longtime best selling feature. When you spend alot of time working on your computer they quality of the keyboard really matters.
T60p UXGA IPS panel is best laptop ever made, it can transform to FrankenPad using T61 mobo on T60p base....procie T9500 2.6Ghz DDR2 8 GB 160SSD middleton bios so can run SATA II speed .....running with windows 10 pro 64bit flawlessly
Ah that keyboard....dreamy. In my personal opinion the last thinkpads were the T420/T430 and the 15 inch models. That being said, from a professional perspective the T420 is above the next models simply because it was the last model featuring the true and only thinkpad keyboard. I hate the new keyboards !!!!
I like old thinkpads, but thinkpad t60 belongs in a museum unfortunately. If I had to use old thinkpad, oldest I would go is t61 which is capable of 8GB of ram. T60 with only 3GB is too limiting today, not to mention hassle of upgrading core duo that most t60 comes with to core2 duo t7200 or better.
I had a T60 as a daily laptop for about 4 years, and it was amazing at that. It was a basic Core 2 Duo model that I can't recall, but I had to put it out of serivce after an unfortunate drop where a hole was punched through the keyboard ribbon cable and the entire front fasica farewelled. I still have it, but it is in a shell of its former glory. If I had the money, I would probably personally restore it or get a T60p.
Came here after just buying a T60 for £10! Going to put Zorin Lite Education on and give it to my Godson. It'll also mean his non teccy dad can safely do online banking... informative, enjoyable video - subbed!
Excellent review! The 300SD of laptops? Great production values and knowledge. I have a T60p but use a w500 daily because I can run 8 gigs of RAM. No problem running Win10. I have no desire at all to buy a new laptop.
Still using Vista in 2018 now? I would recommend to buy a cheap WIn7 license key (or Win10 unless you have the ATI then stick with Win7). Linus works quite nice as well. Of course TempleOS is the ultimate OS.
I have a ThinkPad R60e I still use daily for office work. Put a 128GB SSD in it and 4 GB Ram (don't think it uses all the ram but had some I salvaged from an old HP) and the thing runs amazingly even on Windows 10 pro. Did buy a new battery for it a few mouths ago, not because the battery stopped working but because I wanted to get an extended battery.
@@panoramacircle3281 Yep, original C2D 1.66 GHz in mine. All parts I have put into it are ones I have either salvaged from other computers or had spare. Might look into finding a C2D to upgrade it one day but meh, If I need a powerful computer I got my desktop.

They sure don't build them like they used to.....I was assigned one of these back in the day by one of my former employers. It exudes Lexus-like Quality.
I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T60. It's one of the newer ones that doesn't have any IBM branding. Specs: Intel Core2 Duo T7200, 4GB DDR2 RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 128MB, 1tb HDD, 14.1" 1400x1050 screen
This is such I good laptop. I use one for my virtual classes and it works fine even tho it’s like 14 years old. The only bad thing it does get kind of hot and make a lot of fan noise
I run Windows 7 and Zorin 6 (both in 32 bit versions) on a recent T60 from the US. It needs a bit more attention, but I like the challenges and some result changes with old music videos in 4:3 as intended or something. It was cheap for me and there is a later chance for a new screen and a new keyboard when I feel for such. Maybe it can pretend to be part of a museum and secretly be my giant iPod/Mini Disk/4:3 DVD player.
@@panoramacircle3281 Having an Office 2007 Home and Student disk.. the Word page is a much better full screen experience after it loads up in default zoom on 4:3 than other ratios I tried with it. Even the current MS Office or LibreOffice must obey to "a bad ratio."
My 14.1" T60 is, as expected, not as wide as my 15" T520. But surprisingly the T60 is a bit longer than the T520. Or maybe that should come as no surprise, the T60 being a 4:3 laptop vs 16:9 for the T520. As for the maker, it had been Lenovo for a few years by then, and when IBM finally sold the Thinkpad brand, they also sold the IBM name to Lenovo to use during the transitional period. So I'd consider all T60s as Lenovo laptops, even those with IBM branding.
Zeke Chan - No one? How about those who own Lenovo T60s? My T60 has a THINKPAD logo in the right hand corner and a LENOVO logo just under the right hand screen bezel. Not one sign of IBM anywhere. Earlier T60s may have said IBM but not mine.
Danke schön, herr panorama for the video! I have several questions. 1. Do you have a ballpark for how many hours your battery lasts? 2. In day to day use: how does it feel? In Linux? In win7? 3. Which distro would would you recommend? I only have limited experience in ubuntu. 4. What’s a good price for these nowadays?
I would say 2-4 hours battery. It does feel fine for smaller office programs under Win7 and basic internet browsing. Linux is changing so fast, so you should try Ubuntu first and see how it works for you (depends greatly on the specific gpu and its drivers under Linux). I would pay maybe 80-100€ for a basic machine but this depends on the specification: RAM, CPU, GPU, SSD, display resolution, wear, etc. Remember that this is now an old machine but nobody is making laptops like that anymore.
I have always liked the T60. It was made before Lenovo ruined the Thinkpad. It still retains a lot of the good things from the old IBM thinkpads, and has a few of the nicer things from Lenovo. I also like the 4:3 aspect ratio displays, and for productivity, I would rather have one over a 16:9 display. I personally prefer the R60 over the T60 though as it doesn't have the rubber coating on the lid, which was nice when new, but over time gets to be in pretty bad shape.
Awesome video. I got a bunch of old Thinkpads, my favs being the T43, T60 and T400. The T60 and T400 could definitely benefit from this rejuvenation process you've devised. Do you like the X series? I'd like to grab an X201 with that old school Thinkpad aesthetic.
I have a few of the other version the Z61p, which is almost identical to the T60p. Got mine second hand in 2012 and still using them in 2023! Fully upgraded and performance is amazing for their age. Also I put in a cheap Broadcom BCM970015 video adapter, so it can play 1080p HD at 50/60fps and silky smooth with very little CPU use. There is a video here showing it running with and without this video adapter installed, on two of my Z61p side by side. ruclips.net/video/Fr8SfUB2UaA/видео.html
Interesting, I believe some ThinkPads were assembled in Brazil. I got mine used here and someone might have replaced that card or it was assembled in Brazil altogether.
I have a w530 and I love it. The keyboard doesn't even bother me that much. In fact its the nicest laptop keyboard I've used. Backlit too. This machine is a beast and even at 4 years old it still runs circles around your average laptop. Especially with 32gb and 3 SSDs installed. The Quadro on it isn't bad either and will play most games up to 2012 perfectly and quite a few newer ones as well. Skyrim ran ok on it.
its nice depends on the type, few days ago just get R61 in decent condition, replace the battery, install middleton bios, put an ssd, and 8gb ram, and its a rock solid daily usage laptop, even in 2018 standarts.
Skin cream? That actually works for making a smooth finish on electronics? I've heard about that, but I thought people were joking. What kind of stuff is good to buy?
@@panoramacircle3281 That is fair, but my T400 had ATIs...so it still gets my vote. It was also the first ThinkPad I ever bought (currently using an Anniversary Edition), so I'm a bit biased.

I love my T60. Next fun project is a CPU swap from T2400 to T7200 and I’ll probably try a 120GB SSD at the same time. It already has 2GB of RAM but not sure what modules are installed, 2*1GB or 1*2GB, so I’ll see when I get it open and think about putting the max 3GB in.

Great images, nice background music, great vid. "Everything has a light, like a christmas tree", - you are a poet! Grüsse in die Heimat - typed on T60 upgraded to CPU T7400, 3GbRAM, 32Gb SSD, faster wificard, running Linux nice, fast and smooth, in daily use and typing is awesome! The last model without Intel Management chip... keeping out demons!
Hi. I've bought today t60 and I wanna upgrade it. Which cpu, ram and ssd should I buy? thank you.
@@muflatu i would install a Intel C2D T7400, 3GB DDR2, SSD
I absolutely loved that keyboard on this machine
Ah that keyboard....dreamy. In my personal opinion the last thinkpads were the T420/T430 and the 15 inch models. That being said, from a professional perspective the T420 is above the next models simply because it was the last model featuring the true and only thinkpad keyboard. I hate the new keyboards !!!!
the t430 keyboard had the same switches as the t420 keyboard. t440 onwards are the shit keyboards
The best laptops for final user on earth. I'll do a video about this model too, your's exquisite. Greetings from México.
I love your videos and your accent.
If I had the money, I would probably personally restore it or get a T60p.
i have a t470, those old ones just arent fit for nowadays
Very good job, I have one of these coming you made me glad I am getting it!
Just bought a T60P WITH docking station for €80!
CPU=T9300
4GB ram
160GB HD
Very happy right now :)
Nice machine, now you need an SSD!
@@panoramacircle3281 Maybe 2 ;)
I brought one for £40 and upgraded the processor to a T7400 for £10 and waiting on a new screen which cost me £10. For £60 it’s an absolute steal!
Yes still using mine for some office usage as well
Came here after just buying a T60 for £10! Going to put Zorin Lite Education on and give it to my Godson. It'll also mean his non teccy dad can safely do online banking... informative, enjoyable video - subbed!
Yes I am still using mine but I am stuck on Win7 for legacy reasons but i do have a more modern T430 for sensitive stuff.
Excellent review! The 300SD of laptops? Great production values and knowledge. I have a T60p but use a w500 daily because I can run 8 gigs of RAM. No problem running Win10. I have no desire at all to buy a new laptop.
I have one too from 2006 that I got from eBay for $17, It didn’t have an os on it when I got it, however, I got windows vista home premium on it.
Still using Vista in 2018 now? I would recommend to buy a cheap WIn7 license key (or Win10 unless you have the ATI then stick with Win7). Linus works quite nice as well.
Of course TempleOS is the ultimate OS.
Yeah but that’s not my main pc that I use everyday.
Yes still working for me daily as well. Do you have the original CPU? I went from a CD 1.8GHz to a C2D 2.3GHZ maxed out.
@@panoramacircle3281 Yep, original C2D 1.66 GHz in mine. All parts I have put into it are ones I have either salvaged from other computers or had spare. Might look into finding a C2D to upgrade it one day but meh, If I need a powerful computer I got my desktop.
Thanks, for good information, thinkpad
Hello Always wanted a T60 or T60p , a T430 and a T440p now need to sit search a lot (when have time) for a T60/T60p and hope to get one as you have , Keyboard if DE Layout no problem, my T450s is so and like it Thanks for all your videos always all the Best
Work of art
I wish they brought back this form factor. Bezels look so much better than even some modern laptops.
They sure don't build them like they used to.....I was assigned one of these back in the day by one of my former employers. It exudes Lexus-like Quality.
I like it much better than any MacBook! Great video
Just installed Arch Linux on mine. It runs beautifully. Next I'll try Fedora. Sturdy little machine that runs remarkably well in 2020.
Yes I am still using mine but I am stuck on Win7 for legacy reasons
I have a ThinkPad T 60
Excellent video, I look forward to more of them :)
Thanks a lot, appreciated!
I have macbook and t60p,I always use t60p for work.
Dude do u have any issue with mac book !! Means its ok for the office works and day to day ?? I'm thinking to duy one but confused in windows & mac
Interesting that there were T60s without the IBM labeling, I had never seen them in the wild.
Panorama as a circle Yeah, I haven't seen many either. Mine was made in 2007-08-13
I found a T60 without the IBM label and now I am here lol
i like your videos, they are very Zen!
I highly appreciate you for what you.Keep it up!
Thanks man, appreciated!
This is such I good laptop. I use one for my virtual classes and it works fine even tho it’s like 14 years old. The only bad thing it does get kind of hot and make a lot of fan noise
Interesting, this one runs very cold and nearly silent, maybe you have the dGPU? Also new paste and cleaning the fan helps a lot.
Watching on my t60
I run Windows 7 and Zorin 6 (both in 32 bit versions) on a recent T60 from the US. It needs a bit more attention, but I like the challenges and some result changes with old music videos in 4:3 as intended or something. It was cheap for me and there is a later chance for a new screen and a new keyboard when I feel for such. Maybe it can pretend to be part of a museum and secretly be my giant iPod/Mini Disk/4:3 DVD player.
Yes 4:3 is still great for office work! I would hope they reintroduce at least 3:2 for the T-line.
@@panoramacircle3281
Having an Office 2007 Home and Student disk.. the Word page is a much better full screen experience after it loads up in default zoom on 4:3 than other ratios I tried with it.
Even the current MS Office or LibreOffice must obey to "a bad ratio."
Nahm vor kurzem T60. Gefällt mir sehr.
My ThinkPad T60 doesn't have any IBM branding at all
Danke schön, herr panorama for the video!
Remember that this is now an old machine but nobody is making laptops like that anymore.
your english skills are damm the best
bro i have a question i have ibm t60 turns on display working but led indicators is not working none of them
I have always liked the T60.
Lenovo didn't ruin them.
They're just not Mil-spec any more lol
They're still much much better than any other laptop brand.
@@edwardfletcher7790 I have seen many of the new ones, they are cheap junk just like the optiplexes now.
You always have awesome Thinkpad videos sir. Please ask me how my tumor is progressing. You sound like a young Arnold.Hve a great day.
It's not a tumor!
The only problem with the T60 is the 1024x768 CCFL display, and the palmrest is so hard to get on properly.
There is a 1400x1050 display available as well for the 14inch model but still these are mostly useful for office work.
Yes, I am looking for some an X20 maybe but it is getting difficult to get older models for lower prices now.
I have a t60 running windows 7
can i connect Bluetooth speaker to my Lenovo t60 ?
Hello excelent video you do a list the new componets a andar share site where i can shopping sorry for muy English
t60 vs x60, what are the differences, which one should I buy, are there any suggestions?
I have a few of the other version the Z61p, which is almost identical to the T60p. Got mine second hand in 2012 and still using them in 2023! Fully upgraded and performance is amazing for their age. Also I put in a cheap Broadcom BCM970015 video adapter, so it can play 1080p HD at 50/60fps and silky smooth with very little CPU use. There is a video here showing it running with and without this video adapter installed, on two of my Z61p side by side. ruclips.net/video/Fr8SfUB2UaA/видео.html
My T60 is still in occasional for dedicated business software, so 18 years of service so far...
How much did it cost you in 2012?
mix T60 and T61 and youll get T601 :) the best frankenpad ever.....
Yes, ee need that IPS from the T60!
Your thinkpad vídeos are the best. Do you own a x200? My video request 😁
Thanks, appreciate the feedback. Not yet, maybe I should get one? I am also considering an original X20!
was that a Brazilian T60?
It came with a Brazilian wifi card
Interesting, I believe some ThinkPads were assembled in Brazil. I got mine used here and someone might have replaced that card or it was assembled in Brazil altogether.
Hello! Which is for you the most beautiful IBM Thinkpad?
Thx.
Mmhh maybe the original X20?
I use x200 and it's great for daily usage
I wonder how older thinkpads were before Lenovo fully took the brand
I have a broken one with no battery or hard drive with lots of missing keyboard keys
Skin cream? That actually works for making a smooth finish on electronics? I've heard about that, but I thought people were joking. What kind of stuff is good to buy?
You can use Niveau to un-fade black plastics. It is a common trick used in automotive plastic restore.
What is the absolute max one can upgrade this model to? HDD, CPU, RAM etc.
Core 2 Duo T7600, 2x2GB RAM, every SSD
@@panoramacircle3281 ah okay...currently sporting a 3630qm...this would be a downgrade 😑
As much as I like the T60, I preferred my T400...it ran much quieter and cooler and had an LED-backlit screen.
The T60 can be quite silent too but you need the Intel gpu, not the ATIs for that.
@@panoramacircle3281 That is fair, but my T400 had ATIs...so it still gets my vote. It was also the first ThinkPad I ever bought (currently using an Anniversary Edition), so I'm a bit biased.
Hello friend I need your help, I have a lenovo t60 laptop with windows 7, 3gb of RAM and I put an intel core 2 duo T7700 processor, but the computer does not start the operating system, it remains on a black screen, the BIOS needs to be updated ? help please, thanks ...
Hello, T7700 is not possible bc of 800MHz FSB. The max CPU for a T60 is T7600 with 666MHZ FSB, You should do a BIOS upgrade anyway before anyway.
@@panoramacircle3281 Ok, do you think intel core 2 duo T7300 processor will be compatible with lenovo T60?
Someone selling me like this laptop and it runs windows 10 i think it is refurbish because it so flawless no dents.. is it good to use in many years? 2021 now and then i will use it 2-3years more is it okay? Or buy another because this laptop release in 2006? Am i right
I mean it is an old laptop and you have to look at all components like SSD, RAM what CPU is there etc. I would buy something more modern like a T450/T460 in 2021 if you have the money.
Im in the market for an inexpensive xp/win7 laptop wud u reccomend the t60? I was looking at the t23 but id like to be able to use higher spec apps.
The T60 is pretty vintage as well for modern apps, so you can consider a T400, T410 or T420 as well for a little bit more money.
@@panoramacircle3281 i looked at the t400 and it seems suitable, thanks for the suggestion! The main thing i want it for is retro gaming (win xp era primarily), hence the curiosity about the t60. Ideally i wanted a thinkpad with a dock/expresscard/ ps2 mouse port if possibly
I want one
We all want one
Nice Video, Can it run GTA Iv in the lowest settings?
This one no, you should have a T430 with the Intel GPU or maybe a T420 with the NVIDIA GPU for that.

That should be no problem except for ATI gpus that have no dedicated drivers (Intel gpu works perfectly fine).

you can try to find the parts in aliexpress, many thinkpad's parts available there
Adi Abri Ganjar Utama thanks
does it support C2D T8100?
No, max is the T7600
dont those laptops graphics cards cook them from the inside out?
The Intel gpus are quite cool but the ATI or Nvidia can become quite hot.

There were yes.

T7600 is the max CPU and 2x2GB (usable 3GB). SSD will work great in these older machines too.
