    The example I thought of is a relay race. The depolarization occurs while the first racer runs their portion of the race, the threshold is when they reach the 2nd racer, and the action potential is the 2nd racer beginning their portion of the race. The refractory period could be thought of as the time between races. All the racers rest before the next relay can begin.
