This value is not high enough, the voltage peak across this capacitor could be more than 250 V, it depends on load and on the value of mains. The correct type of capacitors should be a Class X2 capacitor with a 250 V AC or 275 V AC. A non Class X2 capacitor in case a failure could burn or explode. This circuit is very common on the web but often in web page and video not well understood. The circuit in the video is not true voltage supply, the current is limited mainly by the value of film capacitor. It would be very useful some formulas to size the value of the circuit components.

Thank you for the easy explanation....I have a question, please....I am trying to run a 12-volt 1.2mAh battery drill on trans that converts from 220 to 12 volts AC and the current is unified into DC by a unification circuit with a capacitor.... but when The measurement of the voltage coming out of the unification circuit on the Avo reads 19.2 volts.... How can I lower the current to 12 volts (although I tried the drill and it worked normally, but I am afraid that it affects it).... Thanks alot
Hello. I wanted to ask for advice. Me Alternator Delco 12si it is Europ version for Opel Ascona C car. Me problem when ever I try to use hv ceramic capacitors they call that staff plasma ignition and it does work great with me engine. How ever I put multipel of them in series placed 1 side to the + terminal on me E core ignition coil and the 2 conection simply ground to baterry. Now the funny thing is me Alternator is back chargeing constantly under normal rpm the alternator light refuse to go off unless I go higher rpm with me engine around 3000-4000rpm +/-. So aperantly capacitor types have some effects on alternators lot Tractor alternators are equped with capacitors they are produced in China or India and I know if those capacitors go bade the tractor alternator wont charge baterry or if wrong rotatio direction alternator is buyed be acident as well it wont charge baterry. So now me question is how to determine alternator reaction be useing centrain capacitor types and resistors? In me case it changed the starting charge rpm value be useing hv ceramic capacitors. So please any one help me I love to use Amplifiers and Plasma ignition they are great for engines who run on low quality fuel. So please can some one explain to me or make video how to make seperate exition circuet for the field winding on delco 12si alternator if posibel it be manuali controled so the alternator can be switched on and off at any engine speed rotation. I also was wondering if current cut off selenoid culd be used to protect baterry from over charging. Me current voltage in me baterry is around 15.5 volts it goes higher with plasma ignition around 16-17 volts the baterry seams to be fine but no current unless I go higher rpm ranges with me engine. So I do have cinde off problem there understanding how the delco voltage regulator works and how to control it . The voltage regulator has only 1 ic chip and 1-2 small capacitors nothing ells in that thing is present I belive the alternator is partialy controled via the positive linear voltage regulator and alternator bulb as well. They did made huge mistake by bypassing the diode from alternator light to the engine warning light Im not concerned about back charge for now only want to know how manualy control voltage regulator and prevent external capacitors to interact with alternator normal operation . When 3volt LED connected then capacitor knows its value 3 so it pass only required volt, same for other LED'S when you need more volt capacitor fullfil it.

Use resistance to step down the voltage in the output
You can use a 7812 IC to get exact same 12v from 19.2
Its ok if showing 19v,no problem at all. If you lower the voltage by 7812,drill will stop working because drill need 4 to 5 amps current
It's fine as is. The rectified / filtered DC will draw down to the ~12V vicinity once it's loaded down whilst operating the tool.

Hello. I connect a 2W 460 ohm resistor to the output of the circuit and it gets hot. How many watts and how many ohms of resistors can be connected?

* The DC load current ( I© )
* Voltage across both terminals Current limiter 470E ( Vd )
* Apply this formula to find Wattage of 470E ( Wr)
* Wr = Vd x I©
For example: If Vd = 100V, and I© = 40mA
The power consumed by 470E = [100 x 40] mW = 4,000mW = 4Watts
*Take 20% higher rating for safety from overheating; ie 4.8W. Use nearest value available in market; ie 5W*
Please note: this kind of crude circuit is very unsafe for expensive load, also the line current limiter capacitor value and type used 824 / 250v is insufficient to drive above 5W load. _Never used this with Square wave inverter_
The current consumption is too high, this circuit only produces a few hundred mAh current.
