The play in the cross beam is not an issue, once the pin is firm with the job it will not move, the pressure on the top of the jack and the bottom of the jack and the job it self will keep it straight for the push through.
Totally took these mods and ran with them on my 12 ton. Only difference is I used glass filled nylon bolts. I also welded the frame after squaring and shimming everything. Works like a champ.....
I'm just going to live with a manual pump-- glued a couple magnets on top: keeps the handle in place and easy to grab. Just be careful: I had a socket explode under pressure; a piece flew around my shop like it was fired from a .22.
Nice mods. I hadn't even thought about taking out the slop on that part. I put a knob on my release valve so that I don't need a handle.....extremely convenient!! Thanks for the sub! Mike
bluehandsvideo Thanks for the comments, my videos don't get a lot of views, I'm just getting started in metal working, I've been learning by watch you guy and lots of reading.
Brian Stanga We all start somewhere. lol I just kept shooting and posting vids of what I was doing. I didn't even pay any attention to the growth for the first couple of years. One day I looked back and wonder how the heck I got 1000 subscribers. A ton of my views are from the automotive stuff I did those first couple of years. Just keep sharing what you're doing......viewers will find you. :) I just thought of this while I was typing......they have set screws with balls in the end and others with nylon/delrin tips. I wonder if those would allow you to cinch up a bit more snugly without killing the paint. Thanks for the ideas!! Mike
bluehandsvideo Funny you would mention the set screws, I have a video I'm editing as a follow up to this one cause I was not happy with the brass dog tag fix, so I mad some brass tipped bolts. I got some good footage using the follow rest turning small diameter brass rod. I'll try and post it this weekend
I think I would have made spacers/gibs out of Delrin and made it the full size of the end U bracket....I`d like to know how those little set screws are holding up or if they`re gouging the snot out of the press ?
That 20 ton air over hydraulic bottle jack will colapse that cheap box beam. The first aluminum can you try to crush flat with it. The round stock is just welded to the outside of the box beam. BTW did you check the hole allignment for squareness in the upright C-Channel? Its from China.. The odds of those being done right are pretty slim.
all I did was replace the bolts that came with it with grade 8, it has been a great tool in my shop bending some serious shit for brackets etc, it has performed especially since I took the slop out. I thought when I made this vid I would have to weld it up, but it is very rigid as it is. thanks for watching
You need more air lol as I said that you said it 15:00 Not bad , I just picked a 20 ton up yesterday 119.00 out the door I called and drove 100 miles for a 12 ton got too Harbor Freight they said they had 2 of the 12 . they had none the sale on the 12 was 99.99 , the 20 was 189.99 I said I called Manager knocked the price to 110.00 the 9$ in tax , wanted a Yukon 9 drawer tool cart , but they had none of them went to home Depot got the one they had with the dule rails on the 10 inch bottom drawer I spent extra 45 for the husky that is 6 inch wider and 4 inch taller . the 20 ton made up the price difference , only mod I plan to do is the pressure release add a knob and fix the sloopy ram head . I have 1/8th inch flat steel was thinking of taking to the inside of the ram head side flange how you tapped yours the last 8 years they have made some nice changes to the 12 and 20 ton press . I just do small stuff on Motorcycles and cars trucks at home plus help the kids , no need for air doing wheel bearings .
Where you put the Allen head screws in and the brass parts .do you think I could put the same material that cutting boards are made of where you put the screws and brass parts.
No idea what the back ground noise was but man it was loud. Struggled to hear much of anything you narrated because of it. The mods looked good for sure.
FYI, when your dog licks his lips, like yours was doing, they are making an appeasment gesture. In your dogs case, he was proabably letting you know he was very comfortable and he's hoping you don't mind if he can stay that way. Your dog seems to have some of your personalty traits. (LOL) Oh yeah, nice job on the press.

Some shims made out of Delrin Plastic plate Epoxy Glued make it quiet and takes out the Slop.

I used 5/16 x 18 Nylon bolts for the gib screws, they work great.
Hey, that's my idea! Fair play to you!
I want to add a air pedal and machine a knob for the release valve.
man great idea for tapping in a bolt. I was going to shim it on inside and weld some small plates on outside.
Nice mods. I hadn't even thought about taking out the slop on that part. I put a knob on my release valve so that I don't need a handle.....extremely convenient!!

+BS in The Shop how are you liking your press so far
well worth the money, and if you haggle with harbor freight they may swap out the regular 20 ton jack for the air over
I think I would have made spacers/gibs out of Delrin and made it the full size of the end U bracket....I`d like to know how those little set screws are holding up or if they`re gouging the snot out of the press ?
that would have been the smart thing to do, but I was just working with what I had. There is no gouging at all. thanks for watching
I like that idea. How did you attach the delrin? 2-part epoxy?

I gould send you some pictures of bent up Harbor Freight press pieces I have repaired for people.

great idea on the gib screws . you really have some background racket going on , might want to address that in future vids.
You can take out the inner springs and plate. Those are not needed anymore.
Where you put the Allen head screws in and the brass parts .do you think I could put the same material that cutting boards are made of where you put the screws and brass parts.
yeah that stuff is called UHMW and would work better than my fix due to more surface area covered. good luck
If that works I may try that on mine. It has as much slop as yours.
Mike
Should use teflon

Sledge hammer would have cured the slop prior to assembly
“CHINESIUM” steel😊 per chuckie2009
chuckie2009 is a fucking moron and so is this guy
Loose the claw hammer and buy a ball peen, please!
I would have slipped some flat bar in the gaps and mig welded them in.
I was thinking Delrin would work.
I used fiberglass sheet. Works great!
Should of shown a job being done before the mods to show the difference.
If only the bloody camera was still...…..at the beginning at least.
Focus your camera.
