    Tus kwv Nyiaj Yaj....
One annoying but free (& necessary) Hmong linguistics lesson:
Ob leeg.... ces peb lus Hmoob hais tias "Wb OB KWV TIJ."
Tsis yog "Wb IB KWV TIJ."
Vim tias yog koj muaj OB TUG kwv tij los yog ob tug npawg nrog koj... ces koj yuav tau hais tias "PEB PEB KWV TIJ" ... or.... "PEB PEB TUS NPAWG"... or "PEB PEB TUG PHOOJ YWG."
Yog muaj peb tus neeg nyob ua ke, lawm, koj yeej yuav tsis hais tias "Wb IB KWV TIJ" los yog "PEB IB kwv tij." Or, "Peb OB kwv tij." Because if there are THREE, the correct phraseology is: "Peb PEB kwv tij" or "Peb PEB tug phooj ywg."
Saying "Peb OB kwv tij" ... or "Peb IB kwv tij".... when there are 3 people... is even more bizarre.... because you are juxtaposing the word "three" and "two" ---- or "three" and "one" --- next to each other.... and it just makes no sense, not logically and not linguistically...
Yog muaj 3 leeg lawm, qhov lus Hmoob yog... yuav tau hais tias: "Peb PEB tus npawg" .... los yog... "Peb PEB tug kwv tij".... los yog ...."Peb PEB tug phooj ywg..."
(I will expound on the word "Peb" a bit below.)
    Similarly for GIRLS/WOMEN
2 SISTERS = OB TUG VIV NCAUS
3 SISTERS = PEB TUG VIV NCAUS
5 SISTERS = TSIB TUG VIV NCAUS
SISTERS = VIV NCAUS = SIBLINGS = more than ONE person.
If you describe TWO SISTERS or TWO BROTHERS (cousins) as "IB VIV NCAUS" or "IB KWV TIJ," then how are you going to describe a situation, when/where there are 3 sisters or 4 sisters or 5 sisters... or when there are 3, 4, or 5 brothers?
You're just going to keep describing those situations as "Wb ib kwv tij"? Can't do that.
Or are you now going to describe the situation as "Peb PEB kwv tij"?
(NOTE: the word "Peb" means "three" or more. Not just "exactly three." In the sentence right above here, the first "peb" means "us"... plural/two or more.... it is the second "PEB" that indicated there are 3 brothers or 3 cousins or 3 npawg....)
Obviously, INSTINCTIVELY... as a native speaker of the Hmong language... you're NEVER going to describe a situation where there are THREE brothers as "WB"... you know, by heart, it's PEB...... "Peb PEB kwv tij".... it is NOT "Peb OB kwv tij," since there are 3 brothers.
    You know that.
Back to the PREVIOUS situation: when/where there are TWO BROTHERS (or Npawg), the correct phrasing is: "WB OB KWV TIJ" or "WB OB TUG NPAWG."
Again, it is not "Wb IB kwv tij" or "Wb IB tug npawg."
Anyway... nej cov kwv, cov menyuam hlob "tiam 21" no... nej twb yog xib hwb qha ntawv lawm, los, zoo nkaus nej tsis paub lus Hmoob zoo.
One more thing: If you're talking about TWO PEOPLE, the phrase is "NKAWD" It is NOT "nkawv" zoo li nej txhua txhias tus sau nyob hauv RUclips no.
NKAWD thiab NKAWV are different words.
TOD thiab TOV are different words.
PED thiab PEV are two different words.
TID (over there or yonder) thiab TIV (addicted or addiction) are two different words.
"Peb tuaj PUAG TID tuaj".... Tsis yog "Peb tuaj puag TIV tuaj."
Tid, Ped, Nrad, Saud.... yog hais txog ib qhov chaw, ib qho DIRECTION.
Tiv, Pev, Nrav, Sauv.... are NOT the same thing as Tid, Ped, Nrad, Saud.
Those two sets of words ---- with "tus cim TOD" thiab "tus cim KUV" --- also have VERY DIFFERENT TONES, beyond their having very different meanings.
Hmong is a VERY TONAL LANGUAGE.
Tov, Tod, Tom, Tog, Tos, Toj, To, Tob.... they all have very different tones or pitches.... they also mean very different things.
    For example: -----
Yog/correct: ----- "Mus nqa khob dej kub TOD (over there) coj los TOV (mix or mixing) qhov mis no rau tus me ab noj...."
TSIS YOG/incorrect: ---- "Mus nqa khob dej kub TOV (mix) coj los TOV (mix) qhov mis no rau tus me ab noj...."
Correct: "Kuv niam NKAWD tuaj TID tuaj..."
Incorrect: "Kuv niam NKAWV tuaj TIV tuaj..."
Words like "NKAWD" and "NTAWD" --- as well as Thaud, Tod, Ped, Nrad, Saud, Tid ---- may be described as DIPHTHONG's, in English.... similar to English words like BOY, COIN, TOY, etc. They are a bit stretched-out words, starting with one sound but ending with another one...
On the other hand, words like "NKAWV" and "NTAWV" --- as well as Cawv, Lawv, Thawv, Pawv, Plawv, Sawv, etc --- are short, choppy words. They start & then they stop, immediately, in the same pitch or tone. They are NOT "diphthong's" (or "triphthong's")....
