    It’s unfortunate that you didn’t go a bit further after the church as there is Plaza del Charco and some lovely streets with interesting buildings and lots of lovely bars and restaurants and places with live music that is more authentic and not just modern pop. I have been here a few times and it took me a while to discover everything (I don’t think I have seen everything yet!) There is a lot more to it than the main prom area. I hope you will go back and do it justice one day. I agree it’s nicer when it’s sunny! But it still has charm and like many people who keep returning, it is my favourite place for a holiday.

    The uk is the same every sea side resort has chain shops..
    You need to walk to the old area further on..some lovely squares too.
    It’s a nice walk to Loro Parque

    We usually stay in puerto de la cruz, if you'd have kept walking past the church and down the hill you would have discovered plaza del charco with its lovely restaurants and beyond that are all the little unique shops. It's a beautiful place whether the sun is shining or not!

    Of course it is. Finding out all about the island rather than just the commercialised south is personally what I like to do. Similarly I like going to the small more traditional towns on the coast towards the airport. 😍I suppose everyone is different.

    • @TheKnightStrider
      @TheKnightStrider  2 года назад

      As you can see in the video though, puerto was also very commercialised with the same chain stores as down south!

    • @rmil4531
      @rmil4531 2 года назад

      @@TheKnightStrider yes but in Santa Cruz, which I consider the north,there’s also the university and more of a feel of a like Spanish town. Using the word, commercialisation , was perhaps wrong. I maybe meant cultural and authentic? To be honest, I ve only been a couple of times to the north and at the times I come to Tenerife, the weather in the south is always better so that’s where I come.

    • @lynnecartwright3976
      @lynnecartwright3976 2 года назад

      Agree ..I live in PDLC and you would have to pay me to live down south...up here we are (unfortunately) moving with the times and it's very commercialised, but not as bad as the south .. it's much more beautiful and lush up here too...the weather is very changeable and I suppose if you only have a week or two and want guaranteed sunshine then Mallorca is a better bet...but for culture, views and 'Spanish' then the north is miles better than the south.

      @@philwanadoo7435 actually, I’m old enough to have seriously enjoyed bars and liveliness on holidays. Now, I’m interested in the people and real life, that’s why I also like going to Andalusia. Liverpool is a wonderful city as most are in UK, with lots to be proud of. As I say, it’s great we are all different.

    Hi Andrew and Laura. Loved your vlog. Would happily show you more of Puerto de la Cruz. There are a fair number of independent shops in and around the Plaza del Charco area of the town. We're hopefully over for most of October at our apartment, so could give you guys some tips of where to go. Best wishes, Andy and Tara.

    Great video and gives a flavour of the place. I'm a single traveller and although done most of the south of the island and Santa Cruz, never done this side of the island. I do have a friend who lives in La Laguna, but wondering if there was enough to do for a week. Also I will be travelling mid June and wondered about the weather.

    I have visited both sides..IMO this is the best side by far ...some of the back streets have the best restaurants ..some very traditional..there are a couple of really beautiful tapas bars as well as high end restaurants with 'tasting menus' you have to book a few weeks in advance we stayed in the hotel botanica which is surrounded by great restaurants also .. the choice either there or down the hill to where you walked is amazing.. I could write loads but this side of the island is more chilled more classy and has some really classy restaurants..thank you for sharing

    Great to see a new location Andrew, Puerto de la Cruz, we did the very same journey back in June and experienced the same weather conditions, very misty, fog and it was overcast. Our visit was to see how it had changed from the 90’s but sadly it look tired as it doesn’t seem to have moved with the times. It’s okay for a day visit to see the contrast, much greener but found it disappointing. I think you’d need to check the weather app before setting off as it’s a fair way from the south but I think the sun would brighten the mood. I hope you are both well and thanks for sharing the trio of videos today.

    Andrew and Laura, a very informative vlog. I have stayed at PDL Cruz a good few years back in January and the weather was cloudy for nearly all the 10 days that I was there. The town is heavily influenced by Teide.
    Having said that, there is an excellent bus service and the area is popular
    with walkers who can take advantage of this. Another word of advice, some of the hotels stretch quite a way back, so some might not be suitable for people with mobility issues as some up hill walking could be involved depending on location. Agree similar to to El Medano!

    Hello Andrew and Laura, im just get back yesterday from Puerto de la Cruz, and it was really beautiful there, it was warm all 10 days we where there, and its the cooler side of the island we discovered haha, we did drive with our rented car to Santa Cruz and los cristianos etc.. also to Siam Park, also very hot was it there en very busy.. it was a little disappointing because it was to busy and seems that every one did buy a fast pass... the rows at fast passes where even so long as the normal rows.. so it was just a bit waste of money.... we did stay in the hotel Sol costa Atlantis and was a good hotel, the swimming pools there you said you need to pay to get back inside, but that is not true, you can just get back in if you just keep your ticket. we did go out and in the whole day with our ticket :)
    Further, i was hoping with my family to meet you 2. but maby next year in Augusts when we go back to Puerto de la Cruz. its a more quiet place not that busy as on the other side of the island, and its not that hot as well haha. we follow you still and did get a lot of info from your videos! we like your videos very much. and yes! you need to go back at a sunny day.. the sun goes down in the direction of that seafood restaurant, not at the side of that swimming pool that you would like to see the sun goes down :) so the sea in front of you.. and then at arround 10 o-clock the goes down.
    we will say here the best regards and greetings from The Netherlands!

    Tenerife goes, on it's long side, from North East to South West so the Sun most go down strait out on the sea horizon seen from Puerto De La Cruz during the summer time, maybe more to the left during the winter time seen from Puerto De La Cruz (Sunrise in the east - sunset in the west) - Just saying :)

It was 12 years before we returned and we were so disappointed, the town is massively overdeveloped and has lost much of its charm. We now prefer the southern resorts.
