The current limitations of access to medical care for trans people in the US is already a huge obstacle to deal with, so even without a genetic link no one who's still trying to go through the thousands of hoops just to transition is making a simple choice like the kind someone with food allergies makes to decide what's for breakfast. Add the costs of changing name and your entire wardrobe and the medicing and surgeries, the social ramifications of openly being trans (including desth threats and losing family), and the fact that several politicians want to make even more impossible to get care, amd you have a situation where being trans is as dangerous as being a cancer patient. The only difference is that a life insurance policy can pay out for cancer.
