This is a song written in memories of this Japanese woman (loved by many when she’s a famous Singer) who went to China and lived there when she’s unhappy with some of the things her homeland had back then. Then World War II broke out when the Japanese invaded China, and her being Japanese was being ostracised and kicked out of China due to the Chinese finding out her nationality. She never got the chance to go back to China in the end. Dimash got to know the backstory to this song, hence he’s able to capture the feelings and conveyed out via singing.

Yes, Anna, all so true. But I've learned that many, many years later she became the Japanese Minister of Culture and paid an official visit to China. Her loved-one however had been killed, so she never met him again.

"He really focuses on emotions." And that is one of the features that makes Dimash unique, not just his wide range of 6+ octaves or his technique by and large. And the section towards the end of the song (when he just sings a vowel) was completely of his creation. In the London concert (19 Nov 2018, which you attended) the beginning was composed by him. The song itself is sad, but Dimash transmits the sadness to all of us in a way that is not depressing. Sadness, after all is an essential part of human life. This song is about an Japanese actress who made her career and was celebrated in China, but was then deported from China, and this song is her farewell to her loved one. -- Your comments are adorable. I also sensed how you run out of words, because Dimash sings straigh to our souls. The song is well known and loved in China, what you clearly saw in the reactions of the audience and Dimash's fellow-competitors. -- Dimash doesn't speak Chinese (Mandarin), so he had had to learn this from a phonetic transcript. But he did it the Dimashian way, i.e. exceptionally well, because we can see how compassionate the Chinese audience was.

I'm from Finland. -- I always enjoy to watch the reactions and faces of the first-timers. Most of them become "Dears" immediately. Some of them try to hide their tears. I tell them not to feel shame if they cry; I do it all the time. When we humans come across something very beautiful and something that penetrates our hearts and souls, its physical indication and symptom is tears' welling in our eyes. That's what Dimash's singing and great personality do. @@greatgrandmomb486

"Daybreak" is another very sad song. But sadness and sorrow are an essential part of our human life. "Daybreak" is a song of a very young boy going through a cable-car accident and being the only survivor. (The cable-car was designed for 11 passengers, but there were 32, and the cable broke.) The song is his farewell to his mother and father. The surviving boy was later adopted by the composer and original singer of the song. In the Hunan Television competition, Dimash sang this while he was very, very sick, but because the author of the song was in the audience, he did sing it because of respect of and compliment to him.

Love to rewatch it with you! The creative process of this song is divine~ First written and sang by a Japanese singer which is a hit, then Hong Kong lyricist rewrite the lyrics in Cantonese, and this version that Dimash sang in rewritten by a Taiwanese in Mandarin with the true story of a Japanese as backdrop (check out Gloria Wu channel as suggested by many below). The Japanese, Cantonese and Mandarin lyrics are all their own different poetry, but all version projects that indescribable sadness 💔 Beautiful song indeed...

Have you heard the show must go on? I think it is the most emotional song he sang and I wish he puts it on an album just like he did it on the show, not like they do on a studio, producers and fixing it and tweaking here and there, it makes me cry all the time, it is not a show of artists it is a song of all of us going through life, ok it is my interpretation, but it is amazing. Chinese songs are really deep and sad, always thinking about the other person not about oneself, there is a song almost like this one called Jasmine flower the lyrics are so beautiful too. I would love to see you react to Nightwish - Greatest Show on Earth live from Tampere. It is an amazing performance by arguably one of the most epic live bands ever. And Floor Jansen is (in my humble opinion) one of the best female vocalists alive. Also, it just kind of grinds my gears that so many singers and vocal coaches completely ignore metal as a whole, and embrace the bland, cookie-cutter and auto-tuned world of modern pop. Although Dimash is definitely one of the greats of all time, I believe there are many metal singers both male and female that are also amazing vocalists. But hey, what do I know. LOL

    it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li_Xianglan (ITA)
    (link⬇)
    ruclips.net/video/gNj133rSuOQ/видео.html
    (link Adagio⬇)

Detto questo, ciau e alla prossima😊

i think it's based on a true story, Lovers forced to be parted... this was like their parting song, sadly they never meet again (they did not know it yet).... and the song itself also has a long history, it's Japanese/Chinese, and so the lyrics are more reserved, very poetic (actually i think translation cannot represent the true poetry of the lyrics), and I think it makes it even more emotional *cry* 😢

Nya Crea, I felt that I need to write a few more words apart from what I did weeks ago. We enjoyed the singing of the 22-year-old Master, Dimash, again. What prompted me to write one more comment was your slightly mistaken notion of what the lyrics are all about. They do not reflect any anger (nor any lack of anger) after the breaking of a relationship. The song is originally Japanese, and the lyrics are about a Japanese actress who made her career in pre-war and wartime China and who was adored by the Chinese public. She was the golden girl of the theatrical scenes. After the war, her true identity was revealed and she was deported to Japan. Her husband or male friend was executed. Their separation, thus, was occasioned by the Chinese Communist authorities; not by either of them. -- The Chinese public of the competition (the 500 judges) were not aware of the true story, so they sang along. When Dimash heard the (originally Japanese) song and learnt the story, he wanted to sing it in the Hunan Television "Singer 2017" competition.

The Japanese actress the song is about was forced to leave China after she was discovered. The lovers had no options here after WWII & what the Japanese had perpetrated on the Chinese...

Thank you so much for your emotional reaction to an emotional song. Dimash songs always have a deep meaning behind them. In this case it is much deeper than you believe.
This song is a cover of a Japanese song, performed in Chinese language (Mandarin) , referring to a true story of a Japanese artist living in China during the second world war (pretending to be Chinese), loved and adored by the people for whom she performed. After the war her identity was disclosed and she was kicked out from China forever !!
Based on this story a Japanese artist Koji Tamaki wrote and performed a very sad and emotional song.
