I had read somewhere the guitarist Chris DeGarmo wrote this song after his little boy had a nightmare.
As for Geoff's voice, he said in a 2010 interview, "I studied voice. I thought maybe when I grew up I'd be an opera singer and I'm kind of still waiting for that (laughs). my aunt was an opera singer with the Cincinnati Opera for years. I think she probably influenced my classical tastes early on."
This song is about dream control...to realize you're in a dream and then being able to control it.
I played this on my mom's funeral and every time I listen to I just got my heart shredded. It's one of the most powerful song ever written, and gets a whole new meaning if you lost a loved one.
I am always amused when peoples first reaction to Queensryche is Silent Lucidity. You can only really appreciate it the way we do ( long time fans) if you start with their earlier stuff and then experience this song. Geoff’s voice is one of the greatest. Try Take Hold of the Flame (live in Tokyo 1984) , The Whisper, The Killing Words, Walk in the Shadow, I will Remember. Then do the Entire Operation Mindcrime Album or best songs from that Operation Mindcrime, Suite Sister Mary, I don’t Believe in Love, Eyes of a Stranger. Then Empire, Jet City Woman, Best I Can. There are a lot of others.
Queensryche is considered Progressive Metal. The reason this song was their biggest hit was because people who weren’t really into Metal loved it and it gained a larger more diverse audience.
Super interesting. The chorus is the part that people love the most, so I am so glad that you are honest in your opinion. My favorite thing. That’s why I watch your channel.
I’ve always thought of this as quite a masterpiece The lyrics and arrangement
Such A beautiful song, and a real classic! The vocalist is amazing! Thank you for the reaction video, great as always!
Great song! Love your channel❤
Another example of how hard rock and metal bands are true artists and can have a softer side.
Please consider reacting to their song Home Again, which features his then 10-year-old daughter.
It's so beautiful.
Great reaction!
Love watching people react to hearing Queensryche for the first time.
First time I heard this was in the middle of the night, had fallen asleep on the couch. Woke up to the sound and images of this phenomenal song. Loved it at the same time my sleepy brain kinda exploded. Have loved it ever since.
I think you're wrong on Geoff's voice. He's one of the best in top five vocalists in Rock. He has a wide range to a high E.
"If you open your mind to me, you won't rely on open eyes to see." ❤
This album is great. It tells a crazy story
Eyes of a stranger is one of my favorite songs on the album
Uh, I think you mean the album "Operation: Mindcrime". THIS song is from the "Empire" album.
And yeah, "Eyes of a Stranger" from O:M is one of my favs too!
@@purplekat5864 absolutely right. Thanks for the clarification. I don't know why I spaced that.
@@ericnagle4899 Not to worry, it happens to me more than I like to admit!
Geoff (pronounced Jeff) is theatrical, and he has been classically trained.
Oh good you love choruses. QR is really good at writing great choruses! Also NO ONE can BELT like Geoff either! He had a 4 octave range in his prime.
Try more QR, please!
Geoff (pronounced Jeff) Tate's voice is Awesome!! His vocal range was insane. This song is Incredible!! Hopefully, you'll connect with some of their other stuff. And I don't know a girl who wouldn't have killed for that gorgeous hair Geoff had. Lol.
You said it, masterpiece! A song that has been with me for...ehh....40 years something!! Thanks for a fine and honest reaction!
"Take Hold of the Flame" live in Tokyo might change your mind about Geoff Tate.
Great comments! You picked up on so many of the elements that make this truly a masterpiece, as you said.
And it IS about lucid dreaming, and a parent trying to help a child, who's had a nightmare about losing a loved one, be able to be aware while dreaming and be come in control of the dream, etc.
Queensryche is SUCH an awesome band (original lineup for me)! They can create all kinds of flavors with their music. Very diverse.
To hear another side of them, check out "Take Hold of the Flame" Live in Tokyo 1984.
Also the whole concept album, 'Operation: Mindcrime". Its an intriguing story of corruption, mind control, exploitation, murder, love, and more!
Hope you do more QR!
Your reaction was very honest. This is but a very small taste of what QR can do....
Geoff Tates voice is a masterpiece my all time favorite singer listen to take hold of the flame live in Tokyo anybody listening?.the lady wore black all great songs
The song is simply about dreams, the dreams we have which could be about anything, Dreams are what we are made of starting from our Parents who had dreams about us before we were even born and what we would be like after birth, though not all dreams come true pending on how we were raised and brought up into society. Dreams are a big part of our imagination which makes us whole as humans, We can have fun with our dreams in reenactments as children playing make believe in whom we choose to and want to be in life. Dreams can also help us in re-discovering who we are and once were and where we can go in life using our faith to help us succeed.
Geoff (pronounced Jeff) is a very versatile vocalist. You should check out another masterpiece at the opposite end of the spectrum w/ Take Hold of the Flame. The Eyes of a Stranger is sort of between but it's the crowning jewel from Operation Mindcrime. Look that up. (Concept album).
I've loved this song since it was released on MTv
Anton, not sure if anyone explained them to you, but they are the classic “musicians favorite band” of the 80’s and 90’s. Yes, somewhat progressive in style and songwriting. Very technical and very tight musicianship. Vocals that wouldn’t win the voice but are nearly perfect. Underrated because they didn’t ever put out sing alongs and stadium hits. So never got the attention everyone else did.
to me this is the Queensryche Comfortably numb (my all time favourite song)
Very pretty song ❤️ but the only Queenryche song I'm familiar with.
A Masterpiece ¡ You won't regret react to "Eyes of a Stranger "
hi man, u got a real good taste of music, i've been watching your reactions for a while, i hope u consider reacting to a song BEDSHAPED by KEANE
Geoff Tate.. incredible singer 👌 Try Queenrÿche - Take hold of the flame live from Japan, and tx me later 🤟 one of the best live performance ever at my opinion. Tx
That song reached Number 1 on Mainstream Rock Chart and number 9 on Billboard .. you’d have to listen to other songs
Great reaction again! I love this song but can see where you are coming from. You should try a new Geoff Tate song from the last Avantasia album, Moon glow which he is now a regular singer for them, Try "Alchemy". He uses his full vocal capacity on that one. I will keep trying to get you to try a Magnum song as once you here one, you will be hooked! "Sacred hour" should get you hooked. It is all about the feeling of performing to a large audience and the feedback of the fans singing along with you, etc. Here is a link. Just the music. No distractions. Turn it up and enjoy! ruclips.net/video/HoGxAeJ_WQE/видео.html
When are you going to react to the greatest prog rock band of all time RUSH? I would start with The Spirit Of Radio. Queensryche were heavily inspired by Rush even using some of the same engineers and producers.
'' Horizon by Aldous Harding
Please react to Queensryche - Eyes of a stranger
This is a masterpiece in every aspect of the song! Sorry you didn't connect.
His name is pronounced Jeff
This is the worst song on the entire empire album. How did this become the hit song compared to 'best I can, 'empire' and 'resistance'... because this was a hit it lead them to their downfall on the next album. 'Promised land' disappointed a lot of queensryche fans because more than half the album is like this song dry and boring!
Sounds to me as if you've embraced that jaded lifestyle. I bet you're a real killer at parties with your overbearing negativity. You could do better than to project how you feel onto the world through your monochromatic lens.
@@Hawkenwhacker I didn't ask for your opinion and yeah I like to party. Take your microscopic mind and learn a few things about rock history, queensyche admitted themselves that it was bad idea to make the next album with half of the songs like this. Which was why it flopped because they're are a heavy metal band!!
