    got old upright heater, it blows the breaker when its hooked up. when i unplug the heater from the brain box everything works fine...jets, lights, display console everything. so i know the heater has a short in it. $370. for complete assembly at one place. but as little as $40 for a heater element at other sites...so thanks to you i will drain the tub and pull the heater off and replace the element. few years ago i already replaced the pressure switch.. and circulation pump. the flow thru the pump is excellent and strong so i know thats not the problem. my hot tub is 23 years old and runs great. its huge with 21 jets, some are directional..two loungers and one bench seat for two and two deep seats. 8'x8'... similar new ones cost north of $7,000. i will keep this old well running imperial spa. thanks for the instruction

      I have a couple now :) Do I need to drain the hot tub when removing the assembly? Ive read different things. How do you know if you need a new assembly and/or a new element? (I believe the tech used the word element, but just want to be sure) I saw another guy use a flat head vice grip to close off a constant water feed line, I'll have to look - but is this on all hot tubs? Thank You!

    • @VIPPoolsandSpas
      @VIPPoolsandSpas  3 года назад +3

      @@ang3lamarie950 there's so many different heat tube setups. Even if you close the shut off valves, most times it will leak. The vise grip on the bleeder line isn't recommended because over time the tube becomes brittle and it can break. I change a lot of different ones on all sorts of tubs per week. A video showing you how to take it out and put it back in might not apply to you. Draining it applies to all tubs.

    • @ang3lamarie950
      @ang3lamarie950 3 года назад +1

      @@VIPPoolsandSpas OK so you do need to drain it? Why would you need to put a vise grip if its drained? lol

    • @VIPPoolsandSpas
      @VIPPoolsandSpas  3 года назад +2

      @@ang3lamarie950 no vise grip. I think Ive done that once in 30 years. lol If a little clear hose goes to pump 1 (pump that pushes water thru the heater tube) Thats when you might squeeze it to stop the water. The shut off valves are normally after that. Like I said. Theres so many tubs out there.

    Thanks for the post. I found it easy to find the complete heater assembly on the internet and they are quite expensive but from where do you get the elements alone?

    Great video. What are the indicators that lead you to replace the heat element? My breaker keeps tripping and once we disconnected the power to the heater it no longer would trip the circuit when turning hot tub on.

    • @VIPPoolsandSpas
      @VIPPoolsandSpas  Год назад +3

      What you just did by unplugging the heater element leads is your indicator that it's the element. Or, could be the relay for the element? Just change out the heater element and you'll know. Most likely it is the heater element anyway.

    I’ve got a CL738 spa that a relay blew out on it and doesn’t heat. It has a BP500 power board.
    I pulled the board, replaced just the blown relay, didn’t change anything, so I changed all the relays as well as a shorted diode I found. It still doesn’t heat. I’m getting 120v on each individual connection of the heater, but 0v when testing them together.
    I’ve tested the heater and resistance is good. About 14ohms.
    I’m at a loss now. Should I replace the heater? Or is that a board issue? I’m getting 120 on each when going post to ground.

    If the heating element touches the metal of the heating tube, will it ground itself out, causing it not to work?

    • @VIPPoolsandSpas
      @VIPPoolsandSpas  10 месяцев назад +2

      Not at the beginning. If it touches the inner tube hair and other debris get hung up on that spot. For some reason rust will build up there and cause the short. PLUS. You might have a sensor and need to keep it straight. If it's too close, it will give the wrong temp or just trip the high limit.

      @VIPPoolsandSpas thanks for the quick response! My hot tub was tripping the breaker. I disconnected the heater, it stopped tripping. I replaced the heating element and now the hot tub works but the water doesn't heat up. The 2 heating elements test at 240v but the water doesn't heat. My new heating element is touching the tube slightly. I was assuming that was the issue. Now I'm stumped

    Where is the upper limit switch that is supposed to be connected to the heater barrel? My Arctic spa is giving me the "tst" when I power it on but then the main breaker trips. When I look at arctic spa's troubleshooting it says that the 'tst" is checking to make sure that the upper limit switch is connected to the heater tube. Thanks!

    • @VIPPoolsandSpas

    Can u clean the electroids?

    • @VIPPoolsandSpas
      @VIPPoolsandSpas  3 года назад +1

      If its tripping the breaker, theres a fault. If it doesnt heat up fast enough, there may be a calcium build up on the element or the sensors. AT that point, you could try CLR. AND. Testing the element should tell you if you can clean it or not.
