- (Twitter: @MYAlHussaini) A popular Irish song, performed by Muhammad Al-Hussaini on fiddle and vocals, and accompanied by Paul Sims on guitar and Mark Patterson on bodhran. This song is dedicated with love to my little cousin Shadnaz, on the occasion of her wedding.
/ si-il-a-r-n
I wish I were on yonder hill
'Tis there I'd sit and cry my fill
And every tear would turn a mill
Is go dté tú mo mhuirnín slán
Chorus:
Siúil, siúil, siúil a rún
Siúil go socair agus siúil go ciúin
Siúil go doras agus éalaigh liom
Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán
I'll sell my rock, I'll sell my reel
I'll sell my only spinning wheel
To buy my love a sword of steel
Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán
Oh now my love is gone to France
Seeking fortune to advance
'Twould e'er comes back 'tis but a chance
Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán
I wish, I wish, I wish in vain
I wish I had my heart again
And vainly think I'd not complain
Is go dté tú mo mhúirnín slán
This has been my favorite version of this song since I was a teen. It's still as beautiful to listen to as ever.

great version, now I am not good at counting, please what is this time signature, is it s really fast 3/4 or 12/8 or something else? Thanks for any responses!
It feels very much like a moderate waltz, but with hesitations.changes.
a friend and I were able to waltz to it.
Trad Irish music is a lot like Jazz, in that the cadence and timing wildly meander at times but the musicians are so in sync with eachother that it works. :) I once had a Swedish girlfriend who was an amazing classical violinist who played in an orchestra. She came to live in Ireland and was fascinated by the trad music so joined a group as a fiddle player. It took her 3 years to understand and follow along with the timing. she was amazed at the complexity, and how the musicians just 'feel' when the timing: starts/changes/speeds up/stops/repeats.
