You're. Incredible. I haven't heard that old, beautiful, spiritual, Alkebulan in the USA colonial South, story telling style in nearly 50 years. And when I did? It still didn't measure up to you.

His tendency to not only escape his oppressors but also exact justice by spitting in their face in some way shape or form every single time is so glorious! 😂 I love him so much!

    Excellent Video
I think we Stretch the meaning of High John Root as it relates to Hoodoo purposes. I’m of the camp that believes it’s use is only for liberation and social justice purposes (for which High John the Conqueror stood for. Our fight against systematic racism continues). I’m African American saying this.
I’m also of the belief that if you are of African American lineage, that you are the root that High John was really talking about. The High John Plant is important but it is just symbolic. If your of African American Lineage just look within self and you will find High John.
Lastly I believe that High John that our African American Ancestors referred to was a Nature Spirit. Shape Shifter, etc...... Almost all West African ethnic groups talk about these kinds of entities. So yes it’s possible that this kind of entity followed enslaved people to North America for protection purposes.
